Course Description
Change is now and forever. Learn the six-stage change model I've used with Merck, Shell, Honeywell, and Honda to transform culture and cut resistance to change — no more fighting employee to overcome employee resistance.
This course is based on the forty five years of experience helping companies like Merck, Shell Oil, Honeywell, Honda and dozens of others to create cultures of engagement and continuous improvement.
There are three major topics of the course. The first two, which may be optional, are the background knowledge of the research on change efforts and the lessons learned, and previous models of change management. The third is a six stage model of leading change in a manner that maximizes engagement and reduces resistance. The method of change presented in this course is whole-system design that engages stakeholders in the creation and implementation of change.
The course contains fifteen assignments that lead the student through the design process, 24 downloadable resources, including the complete set of 180 PPTs.
Two of the most important words in change management are engagement and resistance. Change management consultants are often hired to overcome resistance to proposed changes. The problem is that management often creates that resistance by failing to engage employees and other stakeholders in the analysis and decision process that leads to the change. This course presents a comprehensive and proven method of engaging all stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and employees in the developing the change that can transform a company's performance and culture. When stakeholders are engaged in creating the change two things happen: first the quality of decisions improve and second, there is little resistance to the implementation of that change.
Lawrence Miller has forty five years of field experience helping companies like Merck, Shell Oil, Honeywell, Coca-Cola, Honda America, Mack Trucks and dozens of other major corporations as well as smaller entrepreneurial companies to create and manage change. He is the author of eleven books and has about 300,000 students in his online courses.

Larry Miller is now teaching eighteen courses with more than 400,000 students in 210 countries on Udemy. He is the author of eleven books, and has more than forty years of experience consulting with major corporations on their business performance, culture and management systems. Several of his courses on management and leadership are best selling courses in their category and have been adopted by major corporations as part of their leadership development and lean culture implementation process.
His expertise is derived from hands on experience creating change in the culture of more than a hundred organizations. Among his consulting clients have been Honda, Corning, Shell Oil Company, Amoco and Texaco, Air Canada, Eastman Chemicals, Xerox, Harris Corporation, Chick-fil-A, Merck and Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, United Technologies, Metropolitan Life and Landmark Communications.
He began his work in youth prisons after recognizing that the learning system in the organization had exactly the opposite of its intended effect – increasing, rather than decreasing, dysfunctional behavior. For four years he worked to redesign the prison system by establishing the first free- economy behind prison walls, where each inmate had to earn points, maintain a checking account, pay rent and pay for everything he desired. It resulted in measurable improvements in behavior. This was his first organizational transformation.

Explained in simple, relatable context and every day examples given. I have taken other Change Management courses but this was the most enjoyable. A perfect example of how instructor practical experience trumps the use of "big words" every time!!

I knew a lot about leadership however upon taking this course I found that there was so much more to it than what I knew, it was great learning all the different aspects of leadership.

The course is more theoretical than I initially expected. Much of the content focuses on describing different change management methodologies, which can already be easily found through online resources. I was hoping for more practical guidance—specifically real-world examples, actionable tips, and clear direction on how to apply these concepts in complex situations. For example, when leadership goals are unclear or when cultural change is required, it would be valuable to see concrete approaches on how to navigate these challenges. Simply outlining methodologies does not provide enough guidance on how to implement change effectively in day-to-day work. I hope the later sections of the course will include more practical insights and application-focused content.

The most comprehensive course I have enrolled in on change management. Delivered in a very friendly and approachable way, using clear language that made even complex topics easy to understand. I appreciated how the content was both contextual and deep at the same time – giving enough background while still staying practical. A big plus were the additional practical materials that helped translate the concepts into real work. Overall, it is a great course to start with and a strong source of inspiration for anyone interested in change management.

It was very comprehensive and a lot of areas were covered. It felt a little repetitive in some aspects and takes a while to complete the content, perhaps longer than anticipated. I enjoyed the theoretical content and models, that was a great way to start off. With the instructor's experience, it was heavy on the large corporate/car manufacturing context which was a little off what I am looking to apply change knowledge in. However, overall it was time well spent!

I feel like being on a lecture! Great experience. Mr. Miller speaks like I was sitting with him in the room - that is really helpful to follow on the content that is professional, explained very well, without sophisticated word, practical.

Yes, I like that it's about being proactive about managing change, not reactive. It's about involving people in the decision making process so that they can feel a sense of ownership and belonging.

I've taken many Udemy courses this year but this one has been my favorite. Larry's teaching style keeps the content interesting. I enjoyed how he provided real-world experience with the concepts and how it was like a story-telling session. I feel better prepared and confident with addressing OCM at a customer's site.
