With the autumn leavestutorial complete, its time to explore the glorious new season of Spring! My next stop is to investigate the remarkable beauty of MAGNOLIAS, such a heartwarming sight, marking an end to winter over the world.

'Paint Realistic Watercolour and Botanicals - MAGNOLIAS' is a watercolour painting tutorial, placing the spotlight on the gorgeous Magnoliaas a subject. Inspiring an undyinglovefrommost in botanical painting, the Magnolia is certainly one of my all time favourite subjects to illustrate as well.
Ican think of no better wayto explorethe Magnolia subjectthanwith than the equally delicate, romantic and beautifulwatercolour medium.... and now is your chance to join me tolearn how for yourself!

Following the STUDIOBASICS and the CHASINGAUTUMN tutorials, the Magnolia remains a simple yetslightly morecomplete study of a singlebotanical subject, and isan ideal subject for us to take out next step together. A beautiful subject alone, itpresentsus withmanageableareas of simple wash, glaze anddry brushing in a harmonious colour combination. It isa perfect opportunity to startstepping the complexity of our techniques up from the previous course into some new botanical painting territory.
Working in layers, we start the magnoliaswith some beautifulwash work, then develop this furtherwith the use ofbasic glazing to develop some beautifulrichness and texture to our magnolia painting. Finishing off our work, we willtry a littledry brushing to enhance the delicate leatherytexturaleffects of the magnolia petalsto completion. It is a perfect transition for us to exploreon many levels.

To illustrate the Magnolia in this tutorial, we will be addressing how to approach a variety of componentsrelevant to this subject and its elements. Fromstems topetals, the intricateflower centre, furryleaf buds and some smallleaf details to complete our painting, this step by step course will help you through every stage of the painting process. This is an ideal subject for exploringbotanical illustration, the watercolour medium, and for students of any level to learn from.
For those starting out, or who feel a little nervous about where to begin, Ihave designed and created a series of painting exercises to help you connect with the medium and subject, to familiarise you with the process and to equip you with a clear path and strategy forwards into your finished painting.

For those wanting to get deeper into the nitty gritty of this subject, Ive developed a specific 'extension section' that delves deeper into painting the magnolia centre, one of the most challenging aspects of this subject. Many times a painting is lost in the quality of our details, so here we place the spotlight on this element to help expand your knowledge and painting skills even further. This mini NutShell extension tutorial is called 'Magnolia Centre ~ The Heart of the Matter', and is the first in a new line of mini spotlight tutorials called ~ The NutShell Series.

With so much diversity, the magnolia is a dreamy playground for botanical artists, and a perfect subject to explore on so many levels. Painting the Magnolia flowers explores creating texture using washes, glazes and dry brushing whilst the flower centre focusses on more detailed work using fine line work, and of course dry brushing techniques. These techniques are so critical to the watercolour painting medium and couldn't be more essential to creating successful Botanical Art across the board.

Everything in this course is explained in a very precise way, which is very helpful for a beginning painter. I find that when I'm watch the videos, I'm learning the techniques she uses, but also why she is using them over other methods. One thing I already learned I was doing wrong with watercolor, was running the brush over a painting area twice, which causes the layers underneath to be picked up and turned to mud. I'm very glad I stumbled upon this class and highly recommend it.

The course is wonderful. My only problem is I dont have enough memory on my tablet to download the supplys list so Im kind of winging it, but Heidi s instructions so far are great!

I have paper saunders waterford satin and cant remove layer of pigment and create highlights or white hairy texture on this paper. Or my brush is wrong.

This course is amazing. I learned so much in every video! The instruction is so clear and the videos so well done I was able to produce the best watercolor Ive ever painted!! Im so encouraged. I took a class at the local community college and was just frustrated - leaving every class with a muddy mess on my paper. But this course was just what I needed to help me understand the washes and layers. I agree with another reviewer - watch the video before you try it yourself. Then watch it again while you try. :) Cant wait for more classes from this instructor.
