Course Description
In this course I'll show you how to improve your painting by adding textures. At the end of this course you will have the skills you need to paint many of the common textures we see around us. You will have the ability to simplify complicated things like rust and rocks and glass and trees, and paint them in a way that captures their very essence.
I'll show you how to make shiny things look shiny, and the best way to paint the texture of stone walls and brickwork, metal, hair, fur and clothing. I'll also introduce you to some exciting ways of making random textures that can liven up any painting.
You can work through the course from beginning to end or just dip into it whenever you want to find out how to create the texture you need.
In each video I show you step-by-step how to create the texture, and I've also produced a pdf instruction sheet to go with each one.
This course is for you if you are just starting out with watercolors and you're not sure how to go about it, or if you have been painting for a while and want to improve the quality of your paintings or find some new techniques and ideas.

I have taught painting for many years, both in adult education classes and also over the internet. Through my online courses I have taught thousands of people to paint since 2005. I have lead a number of painting holidays in the UK and overseas, and for a short time I was an instructor with Derwent Pencils. For five years I worked in ceramics, painting large tiled wall murals to commission.
I now teach art online, write articles for Leisure Painter magazine in the UK, and write a weekly blog which you can find on my website.
I am originally from England, but now live in southern Spain with my lovely wife Donna.
My interest in painting goes back to my childhood, and I have learned throughout my life the skills and ideas that have kept me painting and which I now hope to pass on to you. I love working in watercolors and gouache, and also in oils and acrylics. Each of these requires a different way of working, but I always aim to keep my paintings lively and fresh. I always want to convey something of the heart to anyone looking at my paintings.
The exercises and painting projects in my courses have all been thoroughly tested over time and proved to work well, and I am constantly amazed at the speed at which students improve. I hope you enjoy learning with me!
ps. check out my book on Amazon called: "En Plein Air - sketching and painting in the great outdoors" if you want more inspiration for painting.

I like his easy way of applying paint and his constant reminders of what he is doing - the painting glass was especially good. I would like to see one or two more demonstrations on painting glass.

Really good techniques for achieving foundation textures like stone and fabric. While I wouldn't use all the techniques (I have found others that I prefer) this is a really good start for building and developing your style and understanding of painting. BTW I love the brick and stone techniques, definitely ones I will be using again!

So far the class is informative, enjoyable and the instructor is pleasant to listen to. Also I’m watching it on my iPhone, and it is easy to watch.

This course was very helpful with clear instructions. I found it very helpful when the instructor told what colors he was using as well as the techniques.

it was a good review. I can practice and practice, it helps to watch it over. Reviews of color blending is great too, and striving for the look of OLD worn edged bricks rather than crisp edged new bricks, which are less beautiful and interesting to look at.

I knew some of these techniques as I am a somewhat experienced but most of these I needed to learn or perfect. He has an amazing teaching style and confidence. I would enroll in any course he taught.

Feeling like I'm getting some really good tips for texture in my paintings. I watched the entire course without my painting supplies in front of me. Now I'm anxious to get started!!! I like the relaxed approach to painting that Andy Walker takes and felt myself smiling as I imagined trying the various techniques. He makes painting completely fun! Thanks!

I've been painting with watercolors for a long time, but I still learned a few new things. It was nice to see some of the techniques I have read about actually being demonstrated. I feel more confident about tackling different textures which intimidated me before. I worked samples alongside the artist, and had a hard time getting the same effects in some cases, I probably needed more space and more time to practice- I tended to rush through the examples. I'm glad I have this course as a reference to go back to.
