Course Description

The course is for anyone who wants to learn to paint in watercolors but who does not know where to begin. At the start of the course I will show you what materials you will need, and how to set up a palette with colors. I keep these materials to a bare minimum so that it won't cost you the earth! There is then an exercise in mixing paint with water that will teach you how to get dark and light shades of the same color. Next you will learn how to lay down a flat wash and a wet-in-wet wash of color. These are things that you will do in all your paintings in the future and so are important to learn right from the start. At this stage we put all this together into an abstract painting. The course continues with an exploration of the different marks that our brushes can make, and this will show you how to get great freedom and life into your paintings. We finish up with a landscape painting, shown step-by-step, which uses all these techniques put together. Enroll on this course now and within a short time you will be familiar with all the basic techniques of watercolor painting, and you will have confidence to start painting for yourself. And there is no risk involved - there is a 30 day money back guarantee if you find it is not what you are looking for!

Instructor Details

Andy Walker

I have taught painting for many years, both in adult education classes and also over the internet. Through my online courses I have taught thousands of people to paint since 2005. I have lead a number of painting holidays in the UK and overseas, and for a short time I was an instructor with Derwent Pencils. For five years I worked in ceramics, painting large tiled wall murals to commission.
I am originally from England, but now live in southern Spain with my lovely wife and two dogs.
My interest in painting goes back to my childhood, and I have learned throughout my life the skills and ideas that have kept me in employment and which I now hope to pass on to you. I love working in watercolors, and also in oils and acrylics. Each of these requires a different way of working, but I always aim to keep my paintings lively and fresh. I always want to convey something of the heart to anyone looking at my paintings.
The exercises and painting projects in my courses have all been thoroughly tested over time and proved to work well, and I am constantly amazed at the speed at which students improve. I hope you enjoy learning with me!

Very clear introduction and explanation. Easy to follow and not rushed. Really enjoying it. Thank you.

I liked how you really broke down every step and showed the pallet as you were using the paint. A lot of classes don't show this and I think it's important to see how much paint and water to use. I really enjoyed your teaching style.

I find the course is very informative and paced well for the beginner.

There is one more technicque of wet on wet , in which the we wet the paper with water first and then apply colour

Compared to the other art classes I have taken on Udemy this course was very shallow with very little content and superficial instruction. I missed that it was only 1hour long which might explain its deficiencies. For $11 it was a total ripoff.

Great course. I am amazed that I learnt to paint a landscape in an afternoon and it looks sort of similar to Andy's.
