Juan Pablo De la torre Valdez

¡Soy diseñador y programador web desde hace 19 años! (2006)

I've been working with WordPress as a developer for about 10 years, mostly building child themes. In the last year, I've muddled my way through learning to build custom plug-ins and building new themes from starter themes. I wish I'd have taken this course 5 years ago. Everything makes sense now whereas before I felt like I had a hundred puzzle pieces and it felt like they were in the right place, but I just wasn't sure. I'm only 15% into the course at this point, but I keep having these holy sh*t moments where I see what I've been doing the hard way and it all clicks! I'll probably never do another child theme or use a starter theme as a base again. Analyzing and extending others' code is much harder than the techniques Jaun teaches you here. Amazing.

Really good and huge course. I did some WP courses before, this was what I needed. It is like gym for WP developers. This guy will train your muscle(memory). This is the path to get out of tutorial purgatory (watching tutorials over and over again) and start building websites with confindence - because these projects are good to practice. Practice makes perfect. Also very good to stay in shape. Although there are some outdated things, the instructor is good and Q\A is full of answers. Will buy something more from him.

Zum Beispiel: Aus "Let me scroll it" wurde "The meat is cruel" (das Fleisch ist grausam).

The instruction was clear. The biggest problem I had was debugging my code and I often found that the problem was due to forgetting a comma or semi colon somewhere. I did notice that the instructor does not answer questions, but I had enough support from other students and from seeking out answers online to get through the course. I did watch all the videos and I coded the first project. I am in the process of coding the other three projects now, but I have learned enough so far to get a part time job working on an attorney's WordPress site. My being hired was contingent on finishing some kind of course and I also received the recommendation by referral. I also think having past work to show and offering a rate lower than what most US based developers with experience helped to. Nevertheless, I am working and gaining experience. I will say that this course is a great introduction because I'm using what I learned on the job, but it is not exhaustive and you will run into problems in the wild that you may have to research on your own. I still highly recommend this course for people with no WordPress experience.

This was a really amazing course. Over the course you get to build 5 sites from PSD all the way through to a fully functional and dynamic WordPress site. The instructor covers various scenarios. For example, 3 projects are built from the ground up. One project you uses a bare-bones starter theme called HTML5Blank. the last project you include Bootstrap. Some material are from 2016, but are still way worth it! As a developer you'll work on a lot of legacy code and knowing Bootstrap 4 is still very relevant. So much repetition! I feel ready to tackle a project on my own. I'll probably still refer back to this course for things I forget - mostly to the WordPress Codex and the WordPress Hierarchy chart. Thanks Juan Pablo, I've learned a lot!

I watched every video from beginning (twice ) and suddenly in lecture 90 i don't have same code like in course... And of course my code does not working. In Q&A section i found many with that problem but no answer from teacher. Poor Course dont buy it!!!

I couldn't be more thankful to you, Pablo De la torre Valdez! I had first started trying to get to grips with WordPress theming by following YouTube videos about a year ago, but there came a point when I found things confusing or inconclusive as to best practices. Then I tried courses (one of them by Morten Rand-Hendriksen, senior Wordpress guy, the course was Building Themes from Scratch using Underscores) on Lynda on my employer's subscription, and again I was overwhelmed. I'm willing to learn all the recommended stuff in time, like using scss instead css, and so on and so forth, but I can't do it all at once. So with those courses over there: there was automation strewn in, and all sorts of things ... and all of that, while not being fully up-to-date (vital links didn't work). Even if it sounds cheesy, but only when I took this course, I finally began to see the light :-) ... Things I had come across in other courses before began to make sense. Where it mattered that the course was written over 2 years ago (duplicater plugin and conversion issues to PHP7?) I repaired things with manual updates, or, for Bootstrap 4 instead of 3, I used an online conversion tool (which was quick, and only necessary for a few classes; the one I used was: http://upgrade-bootstrap.bootply.com/). All in all: I absolutely loved the course!

5 stars it's to less for the amount of content that I will learn in this course. I just watched 2 videos, and I'm excited to make my own theme in wordpress, as fust I can. :) I really loved it. I learned about custom page, and custom templates, and although I didn't finished yet, it don't let me relax. I want to finished it as soon I can, because I feel like I worked too hard, without knowing all the power wordpress have it. Also I like how easy it sound CSS Grid ! :) So far, I learned almost anything about wordpress theme development, except using arhive, category, and tags.

For me, this WP development from Scratch video course is priceless. Since I am a WP newbie, I was searching for an online video to help better grasp of WP development at a core foundation. Having 4 WP projects to follow along with the instructor, it help reinforced my understanding of WP hierarchy, page template, the WP loop, the inner working of the WP dashboard, plugins and much more. I truly recommend this course for newbie looking to get into WP development. But I do suggest that you need to be comfortable with HTML and CSS at least. Also the instructor is responsive to my questions but it does take some time for him to get back so far he has gotten back to me in a reasonable amount of time. I am hoping in the future he will create advanced WP development projects that has API calls, JSON involvement, child theme development or even create a user secure login WP site. Thank you so much Juan.

I'm about 40% of the way through the course and so far it's been amazing. My experience prior to this has mainly involved fumbling my way through customisation of pre-built themes, or using page builder themes, but I already feel confident that I'd be able to build a theme from scratch. Most of the different features I'd want to implement in a WordPress theme have already been covered. This course also has a section that covers creating a custom database for reservations and how to create a page in the WordPress backend to view them which I thought was a huge bonus. Juan teaches at a medium pace and for the most part covers all topics in enough depth. There were a couple of instances where I needed to look at other resources (e.g. Codex, etc.) for extra clarity on a concept/function, but I think having a bit of a DYOR mindset is necessary in this industry anyway. Looking forward to the rest of the course!
