I have enjoyed the pace of the course. It has covered most of the major concepts in modern app development. I now feel ready to start working on my app ideas.

Coming from essentially ground zero, Max's explanation is exactly what I need. It's a perfect balance of providing plenty of context and depth without over- or under-explaining.

This is a comprehensive course that covers a variety of app considerations and uses. I found the style and pace to be engaging and flowing well, with sufficient detail that a beginner can follow along and get good insight as to how to use JavaScript and React Native. The slight frustration was when the presenter is typing, the pop-up tips keep blocking the previously written code. I don't type as quickly as the instructor, so it would have been helpful if they did not have tips showing up at all! Would have saved stopping and starting the video so I could see what was what. The course is outdated by a few years and it is to be expected that certain utilities will have changed since the course was created. Complaining that the material doesn't run with the latest packages seems a little ridiculous; it is a good challenge to find out how to set the programming environment with older versions of the packages to make the code work. You'll understand it far better by figuring out how to make minor changes for the code to work. As of March 2026, these were the downgrades that made it work on my PC/VSCode/Android Studio: Expo: 54 → 51 React: 19.1.0 → 18.2.0 React Native: 0.81.5 → 0.74.5 Reanimated: 4.1.1 → 3.10.1 Navigation: v7 → v6 Expo Go 2.31.2 Axios 0.27.2 All other expo packages downgraded to match SDK 51 For example, this stopped getting mismatch errors when adding “import { createDrawerNavigator } from "@react-navigation/drawer"”. Kind of surprised that the instructor went for Google maps rather than a truly free/no credit card option. I didn't want to enter a credit card, even though it would not have charged for low use of the API, so instead I used Geoapify, which can generate an API key for free and no credit card required! Coding is almost exactly the same. Also, react-native-maps didn't work, but finally got react-native-webview to work and had to use useRef to pass the prop back from Leaflet to React Native and the AddPlace screen (LocationPicker.js). Okay this was a bit fiddly with the script, but AI (Claude) helped to write the HTML code within Map.js. It worked. Some minor things, in ImagePicker for expo-image-picker, instead of using image.uri, you need to use image.assets[0].uri instead. The updates to the SQLite package actually make things so much simpler. You wont need to code for promises and error handling, run everything with the sync option. The fetching Places and Place uses the database.getAllSync and database.getFirstSync code. Overall, definitely worth the time and effort required.

After completing another React.js book, this course is really very helpful for diving into the world of mobile apps. Provides a good foundation with real-world examples to get in quickly.

Wonderful course. Thanks a lot Maximilian. There are some things that perhaps can be improved, but I would not like to criticize this wonderful work. Perhaps, it would be nice in a future update of the course to teach the publishing of an app from the beginning, after the realization of the 1st app and in an easy way, and at the end of the course as in this one, this topic can be extended because many of the people that take this course , I can imagine, is to put the app in the store (android, ios) and make it a reality. I totally admire Maximilian and oher code tutors that make this wonderful work and I know that it is not easy because every 6 months one receives an update of certain technology one is using and some of the videos and the info of the course get deprecated. However, it would be nice as a kind suggestion, that in case a major update appears (like in the case of SQLite for the app we made in the course about native features: camera and location), this information can at least be given perhaps not in a video, but in an article in the same course. The same example happened with Loading and the new update SplashScreen. I must say that eventhough the solution for the update of the SQLite was found in the Q/A by an assitant tutor, using that code, it didn't work for me and at one point my functioning app stopped working. Another kind recommendation, I mean perhaps it is a personal opinion, but I truly believe that the majority of people in the world use Android. In my case, I don't have a Mac, nor an Iphone, so the parts of the course where Maximilian taught about specific configurations for Iphone devices, I didn't know how to proceed, and as student I was getting frustrated (in my case checking a video as seen without participating of it makes me feel sad) The major point of a programming course, in my very sincere opinion is to keep the student focused on the coding part, otherwise it gets difficult. (I mean what typing along with the tutor instructions, otherwise it makes no sense to see a course like a Netflix movie) Nevertheless, I totally admire the big effort of Maximilian to make the course as simple as possible. There are other tutors that sometimes don't get this and begin this course right away with typescript and that is frustrating. I could recommend that this course should be separated in 2 or 3 courses. This basic course only with javascript (no typescript) and focused on projects, and the final publishing of the app in the most simple manner with a review of react and js. A second course could cover for example typescript and some hard topics like notifications with a bunch of projects. A third course with no expo, and bunch of projects. But this is just an opinion. In my personal case, after this course I feel enthusiastic and ready to create at least simple apps, and hopefully I will manage to learn by myself how to really publish them in the stores. The fundamentals were fully covered by Maximilian for that purpose. Thanks a lot once again.

Very comprehensive course, with lots of examples. Max is really committed to explaining everything as clear as possible, without losing pragmatism.

By far the most structured way of teaching technical topics that I experienced. Highly recommend to anyone who likes to know things from ground up and be able to use them easily in practice.

Although the course content is a bit outdated, I think it's very good. I researched the older parts of the course myself. Even though I had no experience with React before, I found it quite easy to understand. I look forward to new courses. Best regards.

This course is great for those who are in search of a good course to start your IT career in Mobile Development! Only one problem that some parts of this course is outdated, but it of course can be fixed easily!
