Course Description
Congratulations! You've found the most popular, most complete, and most up-to-date resource online for learning how to test React apps with React Testing Library and Jest!
Thousands of other engineers have learned how to test, and you can too. This course uses a time-tested, battle-proven method to make sure you understand exactly how testing works, and will get you a new job working as a software engineer or help you build that app you've always been dreaming about.
The difference between this course and all the others: you will understand the design patterns used by top companies to test the largest React apps around.
Testing is used to verify your code works as expected. This provides a set of unique benefits to any frontend:
Author smaller, easier to understand codebases
Deploy your code with confidence that it will behave correctly
Test each portion of your app separately - limit the chance of interrupting your users
Allow each of your engineering teams to work independently
Change your codebase without worrying about breaking an existing feature
Testing is a popular topic, but there is a lot of misinformation online. This course has been developed with input from top engineers to ensure total technical accuracy.
----------------------
What will you build?
This course focuses on testing components in a variety of different environments. You will begin by writing tests for a small mini-project, just to get some quick initial experience. From there, you'll learn about React Testing Library and all of its functionality by building a series of interactive cheatsheets. You can use these cheatsheets as a future reference to easily remember the intricacies of testing. Finally, you'll add tests to a rather large React app, complete with authentication, data fetching, and navigation.
Here's a partial list of some of the topics you'll cover:
Customize your test environment by writing custom Jest matchers
Learn how to debug your tests by fixing many bugs
Run tests faster by implementing a fake data-fetching process
Understand best practices by working on a large React project
See an exhaustive list of all the functionality packed into React Testing Library
Enhance your element-selecting powers by using the ARIA Role system
Get experience testing authentication and routing
Write more efficient tests by learning dozens of testing shortcuts
Finally understand the most mysterious function in React - the 'act' function!
Learn multiple ways of handling third-party libraries in a test environment
Use Jest to 'mock' functions and libraries
I spent the early years of my software engineering career writing tests non-stop. Every single day, I practiced Test Driven Development to write thousands of lines of code while being mentored by top industry engineers. Let me share this knowledge with you. Testing is one of the topics I am most passionate about, and I want you to get as excited as I am. Sign up today and join me!

The course is relatively short and can be completed in about 2.5 hours. However, I felt the content drifted away from the core topic of testing at times. In my opinion, Sections 2 and 9 are the only truly valuable parts. The 'rtl-book' section was quite distracting and didn’t hold my interest, making it difficult to stay engaged.

Each and every explanation is in very much detail and explained in very good way. The course is very good in understanding the rtl library and the flow how to exactly test. Thanks for this course

It was quite informative precisely and helpful, I was taking it during this holiday 2025 so there are no response to my question when I encountered problems but overall its a good course to start learning testing.

It was excellent. The way the teacher explained the hole course was very simple, easy to understand. I recommend this course. But I was hoping to learn more about mocks, how to mock classes, dependency functions, how to mock global states, how to deal with jest.mock and jest.spyOn and stuff like that.

This course is fantastic to get grips react testing. It is a beginner level course so the instructor really takes it slow (which is why for me it was a bit inconvenient since I am taking it as a refresher). I did like the debugger section at the end (albeit he skimmed really fast on the script to run without explaining what the options of the command are).

Right off the bat, I would like to say that I already had several years of experience with jest. I took this course, mainly to fill the gaps that I am missing. I am really pleased with this course, it helped me on my thought process.

I could not always follow, but replayed the parts, especially at the end, over and over again, until I saw what you did there. Nice job, your teaching style really connects with my learning style, because you repeat important stuff over and over again, which I very much liked and hopefully never forget ;)

This course is so short that I thought it’s gonna be simple. It turns out not to be the case. The lecturer starts off with the basics and carry on with increasingly high level techniques (e.g. techniques I don’t expect me to pick up or invent myself) of testing. The last few sections are arguably the most “eye-opening” ones, just like what the lecturer himself said. Definitely worth every single bit of your time here.

5 stars for the explanation, and 5 stars for the detailed debugging strategies and thought processes. Most courses say, here is the code, here is the piece of code for it, but Stephen really digs into the core. What I wanted to see: It would have been great if there was few sections regarding useMemo, useContext, useReducer , react hook forms etc, purely because there are mostly used in all projects. But efforts need to be appreciated! The course was worth for me
