Course Description
Master Microservices with Spring Boot & Maven: From Zero to Hero
Are you ready to build real-world microservices using industry-standard tools and architecture? This hands-on course will guide you through the entire journey of professional software development—starting from the foundational concepts all the way to deploying containerized microservices with Docker.
In this course, you’ll learn how to structure scalable applications by breaking them into clean, modular components using Spring Boot, Maven, MySQL, and Docker. Whether you're a beginner developer or looking to level up your backend skills, this course offers a structured path to mastering microservices the right way.
DISCLAIMER: this course requires you to download Docker Desktop from website of Docker. If you are a Udemy Business user, please check with your employer before downloading software!
Before developing the micorservices from scratch - that wire all the included technologies together - we will consider these technologies on a one by one basis.
Section 1 – Setting Up Your Environment
Install Java, Eclipse, Maven, and MySQL
Get your development environment ready for building enterprise-grade applications
Section 2 – Spring & Spring Boot Essentials
Understand the core of Spring and Spring Boot
Learn key annotations, bean scopes, dependency injection, and how to build with Maven
Section 3 – Software Architecture Fundamentals
Dive into monolithic vs. microservice architecture
Learn about web services (REST & SOAP), and HTTP protocols
Section 4 – Developing Microservices
Build real microservices from scratch
Learn how to handle HTTP operations with GET, POST, PATCH, DELETE
Customize request/response with powerful Spring annotations
Section 5 – Working with JSON using Jackson
Master JSON serialization and deserialization
Use annotations like @JsonProperty to control JSON output
Handle date and time correctly in JSON
Section 6 – Integrating with MySQL
Connect your application to MySQL using JDBC and JPA
Use key database annotations for persistence
Section 7 – Validation & Exception Handling
Validate incoming data and manage errors gracefully
Use @ExceptionHandler and @ControllerAdvice for global exception handling
Section 8 – Managing Transactions
Understand the concept of transactions
Implement and control transaction behavior using Spring’s propagation settings
Section 9 – Communication Between Services
Use RestTemplate to enable service-to-service communication
Understand the role of an API Gateway in microservices
Section 10 – Containerization with Docker
Learn the fundamentals of Docker and virtualization
Build, push, and pull Docker images for your Spring Boot apps
Get introduced to Docker + Kubernetes for scalable deployments
Section 11 – Path to Becoming a Senior Software Engineer
profiles

Holczer Balazs
My name is Balazs Holczer. I am from Budapest, Hungary. I am qualified as a physicist. At the moment I am working as a simulation engineer at a multinational company. I have been interested in algorithms and data structures and its implementations especially in Java since university. Later on I got acquainted with machine learning techniques, artificial intelligence, numerical methods and recipes such as solving differential equations, linear algebra, interpolation and extrapolation. These things may prove to be very very important in several fields: software engineering, research and development or investment banking. I have a special addiction to quantitative models such as the Black-Scholes model, or the Merton-model.

I like all courses from this lecturer. His way of teaching is amazing and we can learn a lot quickly, no long sessions and no unnecessary explanations.

The more I write the less it seems, so I will keep this review very simple. Holczer Balazs, is well know for his excellent explanations and solid examples in the projects. Previously, I bought his course on Generics and other course and honestly I was delighted and happy that I bought them at the end of the course. I learned a lot. I experienced the same with this 'REST API Microservices with Spring Boot'. His knowledge is Vast, especially the Streams that he covered under this course blew my mind. I am thankful and also much happy for being a part of his course. I also wish him to come with more similar like extensive projects on different domains that could help us. I give him 5/5 start rating for this course. Thanks!

for spring boot in the presentation User project oder now the Vehicle project to understand would be helping and as reference to take available the corresponding code to download

It was good and thorough with lots of examples. Could have had more exercises. I would have liked a section on spring-boot-starter-test.

I bought this course mainly to get an insight into the world of REST APIs. I was pleasantly surprised especially by the Stream API section in this course. As a beginner in software development, I've bumped into streams quite often but didn't understood them until now. However, the instructor made it quite easy to get the basic idea. Also, I would like to mention that the instructor speaks 'a bit' fast. So, I watched the videos at a slower rate. Other than that, the contents of the course itself is extremely useful and relevant. I'm totally satisfied & would highly recommend this to any beginner.

As I progress through the course, I have become increasingly interested in deepening my understanding of Docker and Kubernetes, given their relevance in modern software development. I wanted to inquire if you have any plans to create a dedicated course focusing specifically on Docker and Kubernetes. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to continuing the course and appreciate the effort you put into making it a valuable learning resource.

It feels old and i think that IntelliJ rules! Still a good course 'cos its relevant. Use Spring Boot and you get the help you need.
By Iara Regina Marques dos Santos on 10/13/2023
It is a beginner course for those who didn't know anything about Spring! This is the best way to start to learn this framework.
By Sachin Deshpande on 9/27/2023
Perfect Training for a person who already knows Java. For me, perfect speed, details and topics list covered. Thank you. With this if trainer can also provide links to standard Spring documentations from where we can refer various concepts later, then would be great help. We can store those links for a complete ref. in future. Or can share the examples on a public github url, if possible.
