Course Description
The web isn't static. As more people live and work online, developers need to build applications that keep up with the pace of business.
In the 2000s, a static page was fine. Today? Not so much.
Imagine you're working with a product inventory app. Are other people working against the same data? Is the current price valid? Did it change a second ago? With a static page, you'd never know — refresh and hope.
What if the page could update itself? In real-time?
Once upon a time, this was complex. Today, it's as simple as opening a WebSocket. But that's where the real questions start.
How do you manage thousands — or millions — of WebSocket connections across servers? Reliably? What happens when a client can't support WebSockets? What do you fall back to? How do you scale across multiple servers?
That's where SignalR comes in.
SignalR is the .NET library for real-time web. It manages connections from web pages, mobile apps, desktop clients, and anything else you can throw at it. It handles transport fallbacks, reconnection, scale-out, and the messy plumbing — so you can focus on the actual feature.
In this course, taught by a 16-time Microsoft MVP, we'll take a structured look at how ASP.NET Core SignalR works under the hood and how to use it confidently in real-world applications.
What you'll learn:
- How SignalR works — connections, hubs, and client/server infrastructure
- Building real-time features in modern ASP.NET Core applications
- Managing connections, groups, and users
- Scaling SignalR for larger deployments
- Performance optimization and production-ready patterns
- Implementing SignalR in non-web apps (desktop, mobile, console)
All examples work across modern .NET — .NET 6, 8, 9, and beyond. The concepts are version-agnostic; the patterns hold whether you're on LTS or running the latest release.

It's very well explained. He kept the examples and explanations simple, practical and to the point, making it easy to follow. I like how he section the videos, never felt overwhelm with too many topics in one video.

Thank you very much for the great course Kevin :) I think the content itself is great. The potential for improvement lies in 3 points: 1) For me it would be manageable to work directly with VS without having to write too much in the command line around it. It was uncomfortable for me. Majority of developers these days also use VS and its windows. 2) The APP section is too long and unstructured for me. It would be better for me to have a 30 minutes section and the source code next to it. So little can go wrong and I can quickly get to the point. For me it would have been enough to see the SignalR part. It is not so essential to look at everything from scratch. I would like to focus on SignalR part. :) 3) Audio isn't always loud enough.

Good work, excellent course. Clear explanation of topics, straight to the point. Loved the way course is organized with short videos, it's easy to write notes and later to remind myself about specific topic. I wish you marry Christmas and happy new 2023, Kevin. Regards, Vladimir Vasic.

Dear Mr. Kevin, Thanks a billion for creating this awesome course which really HELPED me understand how Signal R works and how it can be utilized. I request you to please update this course or provide equivalent resources that do showcase building signal R client side using jquery\javascript instead of Typescript, which in turn will help students alike me leverage the course content\learning directly in their work. Thank you once again for developing this great course.

Hello Kevin Thank you very much for the great course. I have learned a lot. I would have liked another project from scratch to get a little more pure. The section with the Todo App I would revise again and split it into several videos so it is also easier if you want to look at something again. I have rebuilt the Todo App completely with .NET 6 and Angular :-) Great course and it is fun to listen to Kevin and I hope we see more courses from him.

I finally have a great understanding of SignalR and Websockets which was my goal! However, there are two things I didn't like too much. 1)I would have liked to do more examples from scratch. 2)The ToDo application videos are too long because the video was a live recording instead of small prepared videos.

He explained the basics in a concise way. He didn't want to deal with all the related topics. It was helpful because I have a much better overview of the topic. I especially liked that he showed the making of a smaller application in uncut video, with all the errors that occur during the process. Overall, the course is appropriate in terms of both content and length.

Thank you very much for this tutorial. Extremely helpful. Everything explained well and understandably, with one exception. Chapter 5 with the end to end demo completely confused me. I've never worked with VUE before, so it was difficult to follow. I would rather like an example without VUE, e.g. a HowTo with Visual Studio and the Razor Pages ... Sure, I can now do it myself thanks to the introduction, but as I said, the part confused me. Still great introduction to SIgnalR. thanks

Kevin is a great instructor. It's easy to understand him because he is a native english speaker. Of course that's not the most important thing. He goes into detail when presenting the different topics, but doesn't bombard his students with information. I've watched lots of different courses on programming topics and in most of them I felt very tired because of the tons of information. However, this course is different and it's very easy to follow the topics. It's also very practical and supported with lots of demos, so it's even easier to understand the concepts. Thanks for the great work, Kevin!

I knew what SignalR did before taking this course, but I hadn't actually used it. After completing this excellent course I know I could easily add in SignalR functionality to any of my existing apps. Instead of having a bunch of theory at the beginning with a bunch of code at the end, Kevin does a great job of switching between the two which makes for a great learning experience. This course is definitely all "Meats and Potatoes" with no fluff. If you want to create a .net core web application that has real-time communication, I'd highly recommend taking this course.
