Let me teach you the basic methods I use in SketchUp as a professional illustrator and designer with 20 years experience in woodworking magazines!
I have drawn thousands of woodworking projects for magazines in the UK, US and Europe, and currently illustrate 2 top UK titles, Furniture and Cabinetmaking and Woodworking Crafts.
SketchUp has been a big part of this process. It is a great drawing program, and although its hard to find, you can still download the FREE version called SketchUp Make. Just in case you are having trouble finding Sketch Make, the free version you can install on your computer, search for SketchUp Make in Google and follow the instructions. This is a different and much more powerful version of SketchUp to the online browser based SketchUp Free.
Learning the basic tools is just the start though. You can save yourself so much time and effort by using a few simple methods I show you in the course.
Using these techniques, you will find it much easier to design and draw your own projects!
Drawing in 3D can be huge fun, seeing something you have imagined coming to life. It can also be a bit daunting at first, and without a clear structure to guide you, its possible to get a bit lost. Great course! I was looking for a course specifically for Woodworking and Sketchup. I am new to Sketchup but learned a lot of new tips and tricks that will make my drawings better and more accurate.

So far it is very basic and the presenter is not very engaging. On the 4 short segment, he went into a more advanced skill - components but didn't give much background for new users. It should either be more advanced all around or more basic.

The course is somewhat outdated, but even so the instruction is not very detailed for beginner Sketchup users, so I would not recommend this course for people trying to learn sketchup for woodworkers. If you're already somewhat familiar with sketchup and are looking for a refresher, I would not recommend this course either, since the information that you will learn from this is showing you some of the techniques that the instructor uses for his workflow, which might not work for everyone. I would recommend searching youtube for other tutorials on this subject

So far, there are no "hands on" exercises....just the instructor talking. My rating may change as I progress through the course, but as of where I'm at now, I'm a tactile learner and need to "watch and do" rather than "watch and hear."

This is such a confusing course, I do not recommend it.
a) half of the tips are written in the course - not told. The written tips will also stay for a very short time. This forces you to constant check the screen, pause, etc.
b) things happen suddenly and way too fast, half of the time I am totally lost. In one the first classes the screen suddenly changes and he says "Then we have the outlined box of course", wait, what? Where did that come from? I have Googled 'how to outline sketch up' but it doesn't return anything. I watched the section 15 times but no... I am completely stuck and simply cannot continue the course. Very frustrating!!
c) he is using either an older version, or the Microsoft version. half of the time I am searching for 'translations' into the Mac version / newer version.
