Smart Songwriting: Write Great Songs That Attract Listeners (Udemy.com)

This course is like being trapped for hours in a stuffy locked room with a car salesman who loves to extol the artistry of Vanilla Ice. Not literally, but that's what it felt like. The overriding self-hype and fake in your face intensity gets old by the end of the first lesson. He spends way too much time hyping himself and far too little time with actual advice on the topic of songwriting. I bought the course because I knew he had success writing songs and maybe had the ability to teach how to come up with finished songs. I thought maybe he would focus on techniques rather than self hype. I was wrong. He may be successful at songwriting, but this course was a non-starter due to his off putting presentation. I'm glad he has never ending self confidence, but staying on the topic of songwriting rather than a long ego fest would have been a lot better. This course could easily have been half as long and more effective without the constant self promotion.

This course is a chain of good and very useful tips on the songwriting proces, how to market your songs and be critical to your songs. Of course there were some items I could skip 'cause I already knew them but in general it was a very good course and Chris is a enthousiastic teacher !!

Interesting techniques. I do a lot of phonetic writing and I'm happy to see that other people do that too. I dream about songs and have lost a lot of good ones so have an iPad to record into as soon as I wake up now. The really dangerous part is that many of my good ideas come while I am driving home on the freeway. I'm also dying for a collaborator as I'm not that great a songwriter; many times I come up with a really good hook but struggle with the verse and bridge.

Before listening to this I had already started My Lyrics Journal but now I call it my Hook Book. As words or phrases were coming to mind, I would run to my open computer page and write it down so this just reinforce that I am on the right track for just having fun being a word smith.

I am working on creating a music recording studio so that not just me can produce my song but everyone around who wants to enhance their talent can do it. The course was really helpful. I got to know things I never heard of and it actually profited my songwriting and managing view. I would love to have more of this musical source so that I can help my community grow in this industry. Once more, thank you Mr. Chris and keep on with the good job.

First I thought this course was about the theory of writing songs. But Christopher Greenwood took his course in another direction. If you want to be a successful professional songwriter you'll have to think about a lot of things more than just making songs. This he explains a very clearly and devoted way. I recommend this course to everyone who wants to become a professional musician.

I really enjoyed the course. However if you are wanting to learn specifically how to write lyrics (what fits good together, rhyming or not, how many words etc) how to create melodies the best or the musical parts, this course is not quite enough. I love how many tips and tricks he gives us in how to get your song out there and make money with it, because that is the ulimate goal once you are done with a song after all. Chris is super motivating and just for that reason alone it was worth taking this course, because it makes you really wanna sit down and write a bunch of lyric and get somewhere with it. Thank you for that!

My band has done both of the courses offered by Chris Greenwood and in my opinion, the best part of both of these courses that you cant get anywhere else, is his personal stories. He teaches the lesson but breaks it down into his experiences that happened to him and it gives you a better perspective of the industry and the people involved in it. He also opens up and gives you inside information in a way that most artists never would and even talks about how much money he made from certain deals, gives you actual recordings of him co-writing with producers and shares his quirky techniques that we all do, but are too afraid to admit. Why don't they teach this in school?

Chris tells a story, in his early days about writing lyrics to Will Smith's beats... I remember doing the same thing with rock music when I started... I wish there was a course like this in the early days... it would have saved me so much time and frustration. Great course for anyone looking to get into song writing or writers looking for ideas on how to craft better songs.Whether you are starting out and can't play a instrument or a seasoned player, there is no excuse to not check out this course and grow as a song writer.

I like how Chris is so passionate and knowledgeable about songwriting. His teaching is very action-oriented. He knows what it takes to be successful in the music industry and he will kick your butt to get you out there actually doing it! You can tell he actually cares about his students succeeding. This is someone who makes a full-time living in the music industry, so he doesn’t just know how to write songs, he also knows how to make money doing it. It’s a lot of information packed into a short amount of time. I highly recommend this course to any artist who is looking to take their songwriting to the next level. Production quality is good.
