Course Description

Are you a technical writer? Are you a profitable, reliable, and successful technical writer? Would you like to earn more, get more writing assignments, and grow your business?

I can help. I’m Joseph Phillips, and I’ve written hundreds of technical magazine articles and I’ve published 33 books for companies like McGraw-Hill, Pearson Education, and the American Management Association.

In this course I’ll guide you through the technical writing process – not how to write, but how to write effectively, quickly, and accurately. I will show you my exact approach to technical writing that I’ve developed over the past twenty years. You can adapt my technical writing system to your career to grow your technical writing demand.

This isn’t a gimmick, but an honest method that I’ve used in my writing career. There are no shortcuts to good, effective technical writing, but this approach will help you to streamline your writing and editing time, every time.

In this course we’ll also examine the revision processes, working with editors, and the importance of writing well. We will also discuss how to promote the book through web sites, blogs, webinars, and press releases.

Technical writing is more than just a nonfiction book. Technical writing is education through the written word. Readers look to technical books to help them achieve specific goals in their lives - and it's up to you, the technical writer - to write clear, concise directions for your readers.

Let’s get started today to begin growing your profitable technical writing career.

I recently completed this technical writing course, and I'm truly grateful for the knowledge and skills it provided. The course covered a wide range of technical writing principles in a clear and concise manner. The instructor's expertise and enthusiasm for the subject made the learning experience engaging and enjoyable. From audience analysis to formatting guidelines, every aspect was explained thoroughly with practical examples that made it easy to understand and apply. Overall, I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to enhance their technical writing abilities. Thank you for the invaluable learning experience!

I enjoyed this course! It provided practical information, was informative without being dry, and gave me a lot to think about. More than anything, it has helped me to organize concepts I was already aware of but had not really emphasized in my writing career.

Excellent course. Joseph is very good at getting himself and his ideas across. The course was full of helpful hints and tips that I have already been able to put into practice. I wish there were copies of slides to print out.

I'm satisfied with the course, and I'm happy that I have chosen this particular one. I really enjoyed the way it is designed and Joseph is undoubtedly an amazing expert from whom you can learn a lot. The course is more suitable for people who want to publish their first technical book then for those who want to start a new career as a technical writer. Thank you Joseph, and hope to learn from you again soon :)

This is a solid course that covers the nuts and bolts of technical writing. The author has obviously walked this walk. He is not shy about sharing real world experiences - both successes and early failures. Content is well organized, flows logically, and is delivered in "small bites." As a working professional, I was unable to sit through the entire lecture series in one go - but it was easy to log out, log back in, and pick up right back where I left off. Great experience.

Started off as very informative on the basics of technical writing. A lot of general information that I might have overlooked or not been aware of. I think overall it gave me a good insight behind what Technical Writing really is, but it mostly focused on a specific part of Technical Writing. It's more focused on writing a book for Technical Writing, which I don't see myself doing at this stage. Regardless, it has a lot of good information.

Outstanding course! I've written several fiction books and was interested in combining my writing with my technical career. This course gave me the insight I needed to proceed. And I've picked up quite a few tips I can use as I write fiction as well.

this course was very helpful, straight to the point, clear enough to guide through the real life challenges of writers. I have M.Sc in PM, and I wrote my dissertation in Risk Management (2010-2013), since then I loved writing; and I already read a book PMI for Joseph F, and that what encouraged me to go through this course, he is an excellent instructor, and his advice are practical, and this is what made this course more successful. thank you Shamim

Very straightforward, not overwhelming. It moves at an almost relaxing pace that I am not used to in most Udemy courses. I was surprised that there was only text on screen, but I like that for this subject because it allows me to compartmentalize the information for clearly. It was extremely useful to me as an aspiring technical writer.

By Richard Enos on 3/25/2016

Joseph Phillips speaks with clarity and conviction. It is obvious he has real experience as a project management and technical writer. Some of the content in the middle of the course seems a little repetitive and could be cut. Overall I did like how he discussed the editing and publishing process and found it educational, whether or not I choose to train as a tech writer.
