The Complete C++ Developer Course (Udemy.com)

Very difficult to follow for me

I love Dr "J's" approach to lectures and using plenty of examples. The classes are fun to listen to and follow along the examples. Have the challenges at the end of the chapters is also great for learning. I am working through section 2 currently, and I am sure it will keep getting more interesting.

I learned a lot in this course, the instructor is clear most of the time (although I could be biased, having academic knowledge of the programming language C). In addition the projects and challenges help you in solidifying what has been studied in the corresponding lectures. The only (minor) problem I have is the fact that, at the time I'm writing the review, I feel like the copy semantics and move semantics introduced in the lecture "Understanding the Rule of Three, Rule of Five, and Rule of Zero" could have been explained more thoroughly: a lot of concepts were just presented without the necessary depth of explanation (in my opinion). Also, just as a preference of mine, I would have liked to have a few more especially challenging projects (which are mainly two as pointed out by the instructor although, in my personal experience, there is at least one additional challenging project).

A lot of good tutorials on Udemy I struggle with personally because when you're trying to learn to code, your eyes are constantly shifting from the Editor and the video to see what the teacher is doing, and so there's a lot of ESL teachers on Udemy where I need to also use Closed Captions to get what they say while juggling code and the video and trying to get what they meant if they say something incorrect. Not to knock on them or anything, there's some really crazy good tutorials on Udemy from ESL teachers. But John is pretty great, his English is very clear, he takes it slow and tells you what's happening, has a gentle tone that's not deeply gruff like he hates doing this, and doesn't talk too fast. He even has the Captions set in case you need them if he has a moment of awkward pronunciation. It was very enjoyable watching his tutorial, even though I decided C++ isn't for me.

This course taught me a hell of a lot and was generally well structured and well explained. The vast majority of it was clear, the projects/challenges were interesting and enjoyable, and it left me wanting to learn more and left me disappointed that I'd reached the end. Dr Baugh also comes in now and then to answer questions and offer solutions, which can take a while but not an eternity, which often helped when I got stuck. My nitpicks would be that there was one particular challenge that I spent a large part of a day working on only for the solution to not be covered at all (and I got stuck on that, which was a double punch to the gut), and the last section felt a bit rushed and didn't have enough explanation for how some things worked. Thankfully with the latter, it was possible to figure these things out for myself and/or Dr Baugh answered some questions on these effectively and concisely, but having to do so wasted quite a lot of time that could have been avoided fairly easily with a few diagrams and examples. Some things that were not covered (or only mentioned in passing) that I would have liked to see more coverage of: • An explanation of preprocessor directives • Numerical systems (octal & hexadecimal) • Floating points and accuracy • Bitwise operators & explantions

Dr J delivers a very smooth and easy to understand course. Majority of the C++ topics were reviewed with lots of challenges and projects under each section. It would have been more interesting if there were more quiz questions with intermediate difficulty level. Would highly recommend this course for any beginner.

I would definitely recommend this course! Dr Baugh presents a wide range of topics in C++, yet breaks things down into concise lectures focusing on one or two new coding structures. He is encouraging and nonchalant throughout, and the projects he sets gives you a little bit of free range to do things your own way, with enough pointers to not overwhelm you with the task ahead. One thing I would say is that Section 12 (Data Structures) felt a little bare bones. I appreciate there was a lot to cover in this section, but I think students would benefit with having a project at the end of section applying data structures to a more real world scenario.

Excellent course. This was my first real dive into a programming language. At times the challenges were --challenging, but it felt really good to figure them out with what I learned in the section. After completing the course I have been able to work on my own small projects and C++ no longer looks like a complete mystery to me! I am excited to continue learning.

Very good course overall. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and don't have much experience in coding beyond writing scripts in MATLAB. The course is broken down into very managable sections and the projects are on task with the lectures. The only thing I wish Dr. Baugh had added were the solution files to section 12 (I guess he forgot to upload his solutions to GitHub)!

Finished the course and I second other reviews of adding more topics such as multithreading would be nice to have. I went into this course with prior exposure to C++ so for most projects I worked on before looking at your solutions. I loved the challenge of the tictactoe project and as I progressed throughout the course I was anticipating another large capstone project to push me as well as tie in the overall concepts we have been learning. All of that being said, it was a fun course taught by a passionate professional which always equates to a good time. Thanks John! ps.
