Course Description
Do you want to create your own custom ChatGPT, tailored just for you or ready to shine in the GPT Store? This course will show you everything you need to know to make your own GPTs, including how to connect your GPT with third-party tools, APIs, and your own unique applications.
We kick things off with the basics. How exactly do you create a custom GPT? What can you achieve with web browsing capabilities, knowledge files, and the power of a code interpreter? I'll walk you through the process of creating and deploying your GPTs to the GPT Store, ensuring you have all the tools and knowledge at your fingertips.
Next, we dive deeper in creating connected custom GPTs. Ever wondered how to make your GPT that talks to Spotify or creates presentations on Google Slides? To accomplish these things, you need to write GPT actions and OpenAPI specification files. You'll learn to bridge your custom GPTs with third-party APIs using OpenAPI spec.
We'll also tackle the advanced stuff—like crafting custom GPT actions that require authentication and routing your requests through your own API for unparalleled control over your GPT's behavior.
Whether you're aiming to innovate, streamline your workflow, or simply unleash your creativity, this course on creating custom GPTs is your first step towards mastering the art of custom AI creation.
Here's a breakdown of the curriculum:
Custom GPT Basics - learn how to create your own GPTs, generate profile pictures, and deploy to the GPT store
GPT Capabilities - Understand the built-in GPT functionalities including image generation, web browsing, the code interpreter, and knowledge files
Actions and APIs - Learn the fundamentals of APIs, HTTP requests, and GPT actions
Writing OpenAPI Specs - Write your own actions using the OpenAPI specification
Actions With Authentication - Learn how to incorporate APIs that require authentication into your custom GPTs. Learn how to proxy GPT requests through your own applications.

Hi! I'm Colt. I'm a developer with a serious love for teaching. I've spent the last few years teaching people to program at 2 different immersive bootcamps where I've helped hundreds of people become web developers and change their lives. My graduates work at companies like Google, Salesforce, and Square.
Most recently, I led Galvanize's SF's 6 month immersive program as Lead Instructor and Curriculum Director. After graduating from my class, 94% of my students went on to receive full-time developer roles. I also worked at Udacity as a Senior Course Developer on the web development team where I got to reach thousands of students daily.
I’ve since focused my time on bringing my classroom teaching experience to an online environment. In 2016 I launched my Web Developer Bootcamp course, which has since gone on to become one of the best selling and top rated courses on Udemy. I was also voted Udemy’s Best New Instructor of 2016.
I've spent years figuring out the "formula" to teaching technical skills in a classroom environment, and I'm really excited to finally share my expertise with you. I can confidently say that my online courses are without a doubt the most comprehensive ones on the market.
Join me on this crazy adventure!

Good course to create a basic custom GPT. The custom GPT knowledge structure is the one area where more content is needed. While creating custom GPT is easy with uploading a few files, it requires a lot of careful consideration when multiple knowledge files are there, how to tell GPT to refer which knowledge base for what purpose. Some knowledge files could be hierarchical in order where more important files should be consulted first to answer the query, how to structure them when feeding to custom GPT.

This was a short but sweet course that takes you from a beginner to reasonably informed GPT creator. The instructor was easy to follow and course was well organized. I would recommend to anyone looking to understand GPTs.

The content could be lengthier, offering more significant and practical examples of GPT actions that address real-world problems or simplify life. Please note that a paid ChatGPT subscription is required to use the custom GPT action in this course, a detail that should have been highlighted in advance. All in all, Colt is an excellent instructor anyway. It's just that course quality is very vague as they try so fast to capitalize on the AI craze.

The initial part of the course was easy to understand and I did create 2 custom GPT based on the instructions and tutorials. But when the technical part started it got complicated as the explanation was not easy to understand and follow.

I finished the course over the weekend, taking breaks now and then to dig deeper into the theories we talked about. It really helped me get a better grip on everything, and I’m feeling way more confident now!

I have bought and taken many of Colt's courses, alway with excellent results. The courses are well thought out and have good examples and a wealth of useful code to follow in each case. Thanks Colt! Look forward to your new courses!

very clear especially on what will come next and how. Sets up a very good expectations from you and what you will get to achieve proficiency. it's critical so people will not abandon course, thinking it's too complicated and technical. so far so good ...

This is another great course from Colt. It provides a clear overview of what custom GPTs are, how to create simple custom GPTs, and how to create GPT Actions. At the end of the course, you'll be able to build genuinely useful GPTs.

Colt's a great teacher. Thanks to you I've been able to make an incredible career since I watched your Web Development Bootcamp for the first time 5 years ago. Keep doing what you are doing and thanks again for keeping us updated with most new technologies in the industry.

Great course! If you want to learn how to build custom GPTs and unlock their true potential, this course is for you. As a bonus, you'll learn about APIs and the power of expanding your GPT's knowledge base using Actions. This may seem intimidating if you're not a developer, but Colt explains the concepts in an approachable way. Docking half a star because of the last section on running actions through intermediary APIs. It's really helpful and interesting, but it left me wanting more as someone with a decent amount of programming experience. I understand that this course is developed more for the non-technical persona, but it would have been a fun project to code along with. As I typed this, I decided to add the extra star back on because of the intended audience for the course. Just something to consider if you want to leave some breadcrumbs for people who are curious enough to follow you into the weeds. Thanks as always for the great content - you rock.
