Mashrur Hossain
Hi, I'm Mashrur, I'm a full-time programming instructor specializing in programming fundamentals, web application development, machine learning and cyber security. I have been a technology professional for over a decade and have degrees in Computer Science and Economics.
My niche is building comprehensive career focused technology courses for students entering new/complex and challenging fields in today's technology space. This is a nice segway for me, since my real passion is building and tinkering with programming languages. I love everything to do with development and learning about new tools and technologies. My favorite languages are Python and Ruby on Rails, and my favorite tech fields are web app development, machine learning and data-analytics (which is where Ruby on Rails and Python fall into place nicely). I encourage my students to focus on these technologies as well.
In my past (corporate) life, I worked with Enterprise Software Systems with roles played in analysis, development, management and training. I led projects using both agile and waterfall methodologies and thus am well versed in the inner workings of the software development and delivery world.

Great teaching style by Mashrur as always. I like his teaching by example style as they feel very close to real world, and get you up and running fast. Though for me, I had first taken 'Testing Ruby with RSpec: The complete guide'. A great course itself with more focues on going through all the details of RSpec. With that in my bag I was looking forward to Mashrurs closer to real world examples. The two compliment each other and recommend them both equally, and especially as 2 parts to a whole.

no one answers questions in Q&A. some lessons are asking expecting lessons different to what is requested. Lesson 13 testing components tests for a result not for working aspects of the class and will generally pass always. Therefore the test is testing native ruby functionality not the constructed class.

In my opinion it's a good topic, the instructor make good quality course contents, but it would be better if he teach TDD by the book. I mean write as few test as possible first, then implement as few code as pass the test, then refactor, and repeat it until get the final solution.

Ive had a hard time following other testing video courses because there is no overall app made and so isolated examples never make sense. This course is really good for understanding TDD.

As an already experienced ruby (and rails) developer I came to this course hoping to learn about tests, specs and TDD. The course covers these basic concepts very well, but it also covers a lot of basics of the ruby language there weren't really necessary for me. Nevertheless, I'd recommend the course. Especially recommend it to those that are not that familiar with rspec or Ruby as a language. Everything is thoroughly explained and detailed, done step by step, making it easy to understand everything.

The course is too basic, it hardly touches RSpec specific subjects. Surely it teaches you how to create an Spec but it doesn't teach you everything about RSpec, it does not dive into matchers, subject, let, etc. And does not teach you good practices when writing specs. If you do the course you'll be able to write specs, but the quality of them will leave a lot to be desired. It also isn't as TDD as you'll expect a course with this title to be. In many cases you are defining tests cases after creating the code and not the other way around.

I found this course to be a great hands-on learning experience with Rspec. There were places where some more information could have been given about certain Rspec methods and syntax but overall this course is excellent educational value.

Mashrur is on my Favorites list for a long time now, because every course he makes is not made in "hit and run" fashion, but rather "repeat the basics" fashion which is what the learning is all about. This course repeats the basics of TDD and is going in "Red-Green-Refactor" cycles that Junior developers have to ingrain in their memory in order to ship high-quality code or to have favorable job interviews. This course covers the basic 'matchers' of the RSpec which you will use in 75% of the cases, and it showcases the TDD concept: "Ship no line of code untested". So if you are looking for a good intro course on RSpec, with hands-on experience, and with latest updates, look no further.

Big fan of Mashrur's courses in general and this has been no exception. Knowing how to write tests is such an important part of real-world development and RSpec is an absolute must for the workplace. Really do recommend this course to anyone who is looking for work as a developer, it covers some real essentials!
