Course Description

This Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) training blends two of today's popular fields of psychology to emphasise the ability of all people to achieve mental health and wellness. Unlike traditional psychiatry, that focus on human pathology, this course offers a positive framework for leveraging cognition to make positive life changes.

The course is crafted to help learners apply psychological insights to real-life situations, ensuring they gain practical, experiential understanding rather than just theoretical knowledge.

Students will explore multiple cognitive and behavioral models, to understand themselves first, before seeking to understand others. One main area of focus is mindset, including the different types of belief system that lead people into unhelpful emotional states. Learners also explore the cognitive distortions that lead many people towards unhelpful decision making.

The training unpacks the foundational principles of CBT with a focus on cultivating deep inner resilience, emotional intelligence, and fostering an attitude that's geared towards continuous self-improvement. This is the second course by Kain Ramsey that I have completed during the last few months. He is a good instructor with some background in counseling and shares a lot of insights from his personal experience. There are a number of similarities between this course and the one titled “Building Inner Resilience,” such as the importance of maturity, taking responsibility for one’s life, and adopting a growth mindset. Kain talks about the different cognitive distortions that people fall into, such as catastrophizing, black-and-white thinking, and mindreading. He goes into some fundamentals of psychology, as the Freudian concepts of id, ego, and superego. Although he doesn’t specifically name it as such, he discusses the four areas of Emotional Intelligence; namely, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. I took this course as I’m into mindfulness, self-improvement, and positive psychology, and I consider myself as grounded and stable. While I agree with most of the concepts behind Kain’s teachings, I don’t concur with his stance on psychiatry and his dismissal of mental disorders as merely resulting from a lack of self-awareness and self-discipline. Try telling that to the millions of people who suffer from schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress, phobias, personality disorders, and countless other conditions. It’s been known that depression and anxiety can be attributed to a certain chemical imbalance in the brain. Kain is an expert on applied psychology but states he has no expertise on the biology of the central nervous system. In one of his lectures, he contrasts being motivated by growth vs. being motivated by happiness. Everyone knows this is a false dichotomy. You can grow as a person AND be happy at the same time. He almost makes it sound as if there’s something wrong with being happy, which is what most people want in life. Also, as the saying goes, happiness is a choice. And part of being human is to experience a wide range of emotions – joy, sadness, anger, fear, among others. It matters how we self-regulate and how we manage our emotions. We are imperfect beings, and there’s always room for improvement. We can be happy and content with our lives and be at peace with ourselves while making positive contributions to the world. I find many of the self-evaluation questions and exercises helpful in promoting personal development. Overall, it was a good course.

I really enjoyed Kain´s unusual teaching style - it kept me engaged and entertained. I do however understand that some of his jokes and remarks can be too hard to digest for some other people. The course gave me many useful ideas and questions to think about and definitely provided a basic overview and understanding of what the CBT is about. I think that in the future I will follow up with one of his other courses. Thank you.

The course was informative, but the presentation was monotonous. If different people and different methods of presenting were used, the course would be more engaging.

Definitely a good match! However Mr. Kain sometime goes hard when relating to spirituality i.e. beliefs in religion which can/may show his biases but because I'm open-minded I can still see his point of view. Additionally, as a believer in God, I may may have biases as well. Great thing is when beliefs doesn't' cause distortion for for then more power to you in this regard vs. discouraging this particular belief. He's great! However, a sticky point for me was religious beliefs---he goes hard relieving what appears to be his non-belief in this regard...facts (science) vs spiritual belief

Kain is fabulous

Wonderful course! I was unsure if CBT would be a direction of interest for me, however I found it fascinating to learn about, and will be pursuing further education in it. Kain presented the information clearly, and broke it down into bite-sized chunks that were easy to understand as well as to relate to the NLP and Life Coaching certification courses I've already completed. Thank you, Kain!
