Course Description
In this course we'll learn the Python 3 programming language and the PHP programming language from an absolute Beginner level all the way to Advanced in no time at all!
This course is aimed at the absolute beginner, you don't need any coding experience at all!
We'll start out by setting downloading and installing Python and the Sublime Text Editor - both for free. This will give you all the tools you need to start writing and running Python code.
For PHP, we'll use a free online development environment so that we can learn web development concepts.
Then, we'll dive into very basic computer science concepts. Things like:
- String Manipulation
- Printing to the Screen
- Simple Math
- Variables
- Data Types (lists, tuples, dictionaries and more)
- Assignment Operators
- Comparison Operators
After that, we'll move into more intermediate topics like:
- While Loops
- For Loops
- Conditional If/Else Statements
- Fizzbuzz
Finally we'll finish up with more advanced topics like:
- Modules
- Functions
- Classes
- And More...
We'll learn all of those things for both Python and PHP. We'll start with Python, and then move over to PHP in the second half of the course.
Python and PHP are two of the greatest programming languages to learn, and learning has never been this easy!
I'll see you on the inside!

Unbelievably basic. Narrator style was very grating "This is COOL", "It's AMAZING", etc. especially when it wasn't

Not a new programmer. So basic, yes. I will reevaluate after more chapters...

Nice intro and overview. A bit rushed towards the end. Could definitely use some in-depth expansion on certain important subject like 'Classes' and definitely some more examples. Good touch with the coupon code.

Thank you, John! This was an amazing course. I'm just trying to learn as many new things as I can, and this was the perfect two in one course!

The Python section of the course was shorter than I expected and it left me wanting more. While it explained the logic behind Python, it was short on application. I reached out to John Elder for next steps, and he suggested a course on django, which I also purchased. I have not started it yet, but I'm sure John's initial instruction will carry me a long way. The php section of the course made up for the shortcomings of the Python lessons. I tried learning php before, but it wasn't clicking. John's php course turned most of the lights on for me by building an actual webpage. Since I have worked with HTML/CSS quite a bit, it was very enlightening to see how php enhances and simplifies writing web pages. I can't say enough about the instructor. John Elder was very friendly and approachable when I reached out to him via email, something I appreciate more than anything. His teaching style is more like having somebody in the room with you rather than on a video... somebody that occasionally trips over his own tongue or admits to not being real sure how or why something works. In other words, it's like being taught by a real human being rather than through a scripted, edited and polished lecture.

The course is well explained in the portion covered but I was expecting the lecturer to provide more practical examples about each data types for example. Also there is a little bit of rush I will say. The proof is each section last 5 minutes the most. The course is also incomplete.

Depending on my progress at the end of the course, I may edit my rating: I gave this course 5 stars, here is why: The presenter is well paced in his explanations, is pleasant to listen to and presents relevant information. I've so far been able to reproduce what I've learned and I feel that I've gained more than my investment in knowledge. The presenter provides relevant information and opportunities to test your knowledge. His narration is easy to listen to, (think Edward Norton with too much coffee).

very clear, only I had a little struggle during the terminal part being a total newbie using mac

An excellent course to understand the basics of python(wouldn't comment on the php part of the course since haven't done that yet but i am sure it's great!) As the course description says it is the basics of python and as with any language an online course will online touch the surface of it but it helps you get a 'push' towards learning the language. John(the instructor) is very good at teaching and delivering content. His method of teaching kept me interested all along. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to have a peek a python!

I am not very good with programming. Took this course due to a test coming up. This instructor helped me with both php and python.
