Course Description
The traditional career path will, at some point, present you with the opportunity to become a manager. I created this course to provide you, a new and aspiring manager, with the concepts, tools, and tricks to succeed in this new role.
Whether you're looking out ahead, faced with the decision, or have recently decided to go for it, I'll show you how to scope, justify, hire, manage, and retain a technical team from start to finish, in-person or remote. But we won't stop there!
Each section is tailored to specifically address some of the common questions from new managers. I'll show you how to get work done (as a manager), how to communicate and manage relationships in all direction - downwards, upwards, and laterally. We'll go over what you can expect in your first 90 days and how to participate in the company's operational key results exercises.
We'll focus on you, too, with exercises to identify your managerial style and create a transition plan. Plus, I'll suggest additional materials and actions you can take to position yourself for the transition. This includes developing your professional social media presence, signing up for free newsletters, and following established business leaders on social media.
For many, making the transition often occurs without training or a firm understanding of what it requires. This course is an introduction to key managerial practices to aid in the adoption of a manager’s skill set. Whether you're a high performing individual contributor in a technical role, an individual new to management, or simply aspiring to become a manager of technology teams, you will find this course content beneficial to your goals.

I wish I had this training prior to becoming a manager. It would have made the transition so much easier giving me the tools to go forward instead of just trying to figure it out.

In going through this class I was able to identify some of the strategies my previous and current management have used to get results from myself and team. Learning the thoughts behind them has led me to deeper understanding of what it means to be a manager and new way to develop my skills going forward to continue growing as a leader. The instructor is engaging and knows how to speak in a direct, clear, and understandable tone to make sure the lessons sink in. Having the workbook to test out some of the strategies was immensely helpful once I was able to understand how to approach the instructions.

+ Good production quality + Covers most topics needed to be a manager + Brief summary for each section - Very basic and superficial - Some important concepts are touched in passing in barely relevant places I guess this is everything you can do within this relatively short time frame of 2.5h hours. It is really an overview of everything managers do, but barely a good explanation of how to actually do it and why it has to be done this way.

Lacking self assessment tasks, no way to validate answers for exercises in resources section, some parts mentioned in the video were missing in resources. Other than that this course provides good and versatile introduction to technical management.

Useful high-level overview of tips and tricks for getting started and then going further. Would've appreciated additional details on some items (or maybe just a glossary in the workbook) for some terms that weren't familiar.

Found it to be a good starting overview of what to expect getting into such a new professional role. The workbook in the resource files was confusing to me as to the setup. It feels like the workbook was never finished to accompany the course? A pdf rather than a word file would also been a better choice.

This is one of the best starter course, nicely done. I'm a visual learner and so in terms of delivery I would find it more helpful to have the information displayed in a slide during the lecture and have the instructor zoomed out in a PIP window. That might be helpful to others too.

1. Good content and explanation. 2. Would be great if we can get the content in form of PPTs. 3. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the reference book whose reference was used during the lecture.

Good lessons! Only complaint was that there were a few techniques mentioned throughout the course without a solid definition on what they are which I had to look up separately. 360 degree feedback, Socratic method, etc.

Contents are great for learning to be a manager in general. Would like to hear more about the transition from technical individual perspective, like what are the edges or shortcomings of being technical lead turning manager.
