The course is useful as an introduction, but I believe it could be improved in terms of practical learning. It would be great to include more hands-on exercises so learners can actively apply the concepts being taught. Additionally, it would help if some sections provided the commands or code in advance, making it easier to follow along with the explanations. At times, certain steps feel a bit abrupt or unexpected, which can make it harder to understand—especially for beginners. Overall, the course has good potential, but it would be much more effective if it were more practice-oriented and structured in a clearer, step-by-step way.

As a Linux beginner, I could not finish sections 15 (failed to install certbot, could not secure Nginx) and 16 (could not set up WordPress server) because too many things are outdated. I will have to spend a lot of time with Google to catch up on some things and set up my WordPress and Nginx server.

After completing 75% of this course(and skipping prompts from udemy to provide rating :p), I have finally got enough experience with this course to provide my feedback! This is a perfect course for anyone like me who is new to Linux and want learn more about its server management using Ubuntu. Ted brings all his experience into this course and makes sure that it is beginner friendly. Advise to fellow learners: Make sure you have the Ubuntu terminal open and try out each and everything that Ted does on the screen, you will get the most of this course this way. Bottom line is: This course is absolutely a steal at this price. Thank you Ted! Edited my review to add a very important point: Ted promptly responds to any doubt you post in Q&A. This does wonders for the engagement of the learners.

This course took me from (almost) zero-knowledge regards managing a Linux server to feeling comfortable doing so. I had a couple of teething issues early on as things didn't match what I was seeing on my screen with the course content, but the course author answered my queries quickly and helpfully. I also wondered how the WordPress section would be of use to me, but strangely enough, some of the principles described/explained turned out to be very useful (for setting up another box to install non-WP software on). I highly recommend this course for those needing to get a grounding in Linux Server mgmt, and a need to get comfortable with it in a short(ish) time.

It could be way better. There was a lesson where Ted spent a huge time coughing and explaining things again and it was a bit confusing. There are some lessons that in order to get the process of the lesson faster, he cut some parts but because of that I get confused. Edit: Ted was so fast on solving the problems and keeping in touch in order to do so. The problems were solved and my new rate is 4.5 stars, not less than this. I highly recommend. I would just leave a suggestion saying that it surely needs better subtittles and it could include other languages such as Spanish and Portuguese(my native language).

By Adrian Nachev on 2/17/2020

Overall a good course. On places though it felt not well structured. For example section 13 is giving examples with nginx command, while nginx is not installed (it's installed later in section 15). On many places reference to previous lessons are made to previous lessens, claiming they will be tought later in the course, while they have already been thought. Those add to a feeling of not any particular order of the course, even though difficulty-wise, material is progressing well. To me it did not feel very engaging, but in general I am happy with the knowledge I gained.

By Charles Hall on 12/21/2019

This course is a good overview. Aside from some commands that I think will be especially useful, I will need to keep a book reference nearby and refer frequently to the "man" instructions to become comfortable with navigating Linux Server. The instructor was clearly knowledgeable and explained things clearly, although at times going pretty quickly. I could of course back up and repeat the recording. On my system, sometimes a video would terminate prematurely and go to the next lesson and I would have to go back and restart the video. Also, in the final video lesson, a technical glitch occurred about midway through the lesson and it would not play to the end. Overall, I am satisfied with the course.

Very good course on Ubuntu Server Fundamentals! It is easy to follow, and at the same time it gives a good overview of most fundamental concepts and commands, and provides a roadmap for further exploration of Linux and in particular Ubuntu. Before taking this course I was using Ubuntu Desktop only, and I thought that 'server' is something heavy-duty and complicated. Ted's course changed my attitude and my mind. Ubuntu Server became my choice number one as OS that I use in my virtual machines, now I know that it is lightweight and configurable solution. I want to thank Ted for a great course and a job that he had done while working on the course. At the same time I want to encourage Ted to keep updating the course as new Ubuntu Server versions come out. Thank You!

This was a great course and learning experience. Instructor covered many topics in a clear and helpful manner. I was looking to get familiar with setting up and maintaining a server and this course did not disappoint. The section on Securing Ubuntu Server was especially helpful for me, the instructor showed how easy it was to use fail2ban and ufw. Before this course, I was unfamiliar with these topics but now feel confident using them, they do not seem as complicated as they did prior to taking this course. I also appreciated that nginx was covered in this course, it too was a topic I wanted to learn more about. I would definitely recommend taking this course as a beginner to learn server fundamentals.

I really liked this course a lot. I have been using Ubuntu Desktop a few years now, and I have not been using Ubuntu Server at all. So this course is a good intro to show how to deal with Linux server. The author of the course Mr. Ted delivers course material on a very professional level with some jokes from time to time, that make students feel better during the course. The course material is very wide, it gives students basic Linux foundations, which can be applied on a desktop or a server Linux version. Besides foundations given, the course provides very wide knowledge of Linux, and very useful tips how to admin and protect your server. The course is worth every dollar paid, I hope in the future I will see more courses from Ted regarding Linux OS.
