Course Description

Ready to create games in Unreal Engine 5?

No Programming Experience Required!

Learn game development with Unreal Engine 5, the world's leading free game engine. This is the engine that brought us AAA titles such as Fortnite, the Batman Arkham series, Bioshock, and hundreds more. Opening this engine may seem intimidating at a glance, but this course is here to teach you how to become comfortable with the layout and game making process by creating an Endless Runner game. We will go step by step through the game-making process to show how we can set up a character with fluid and responsive movement, well-designed gameplay, and a lot more- without even writing a single line of code!

Unreal Engine Blueprints

We will be using UE5's built-in visual scripting system, blueprints, to create all the logic for our game. Blueprints are a visual form of C++ and are changing the way creating video games are approached across the world. It may seem like a lot at first, but with the gentle guiding of this course you will quickly understand the efficiency and power of this simple-to-understand system.

In this course, you will:

  • Make a complete game

  • Become comfortable coding with blueprints

  • Learn the engine's interface and terminology

  • Understand actor types

  • Experiment with different types of collisions

  • Characters and character movement

  • Blueprint logic

  • Music and audio

  • Gain the confidence to turn UE5 into a profitable future

  • Become an Unreal Engine 5 hero!

Why Take This Course?

Even if an endless runner game isn't your interest, this course provides the steps necessary to create a video game from start to finish. You will learn many fundamental things about the game-making process and will be able to utilize that knowledge in the projects you work on from here on out. I'm excited to see what you can create because Unreal Engine 5 is the tool you need to grasp that opportunity. So are you ready?

Let's start making a video game!

This is a very good Course, but doesn't leave room for challenges, i.e giving the users a task to try on there own or maybe draw out a plan on on the thinking process ,before the solution. Also its a bit out dated and abandoned by the lecture, But still have good comments from the other students. Would still Recommend good course!

This course does an excellent job of breaking down the concepts for beginners, with every topic explained in detail. However, I believe incorporating lessons on particle effects and post-processing could significantly enhance the learning experience by teaching how to add that extra polish to their games.

Great course, the explanations are clear, and the game mechanics are well explained. Simple and effective. However, it requires some knowledge of either algorithms and programming, or some prior experience with Unreal Engine. No coding skills are needed, but an understanding of concepts like functions, variables, constants, operators, and others is necessary to some extent. This course is designed for developing a game style, not for beginners :)

Nice introduction to creating an endless runner game. Some of the content was a little outdated which proved frustrating initially but saw that the Q&A answered the queries I had (and some Googling). Had quite a few times where I had to stop/rewind/rewatch to try and keep pace with the instructor. On the whole, enjoyable course and provided some good insights to how to do things. Recommended.

I liked the course a lot. The game created in the course is quite unique and different from games in other courses on Udemy. Enjoyed the fact that Blueprints and algorithms are the main focus in this course, i.e. you don't spend excessive amount of time with animations, level design etc. Especially if you try to come up with your own solutions to presented tasks, you'll get a very solid practice in Blueprint scripting. The course is also quite short while still teaching you a lot.

Great intro course to Blueprints and general tips in Unreal 5. This instructor is great with structure and naming, that's why I've purchased several of his tutorials. It would be great with some more thorough explanations sometimes when things get a bit more complex and a suggestion for future courses would be to add some challenges and encourage people to try certain things out before you show the solution. Overall recommended!

It was fairly easy to follow. I rated it 4.5 because this should be updated to 1080p. I had to pause a lot to squint and try to make sense of what was in the video at times. Also there was a rough patch later on when it comes to importing the buildings with the correct paint on them. For those wondering how to fix it, the Q&A section has the answer.

By Chris Anglin on 9/28/2022

Excellent course. After the perfectly paced intro, he goes a little quickly here and there, but things are explained well so you might have to pause and rewatch from time to time, but this is much preferred for me, rather than going at a slow pace. The game is coming along nicely so far.

I have been using Unreal Engine for a while , and like to do tutorials just to see different approaches to different situations. I was actually surprised that it learned a couple things I didn't know myself. Yet it was clear with a nice flow that anyone should be able to follow.
