An extremely in-depth guide for entering the game industry as a game designer or level designer; I'm going to recommend it to everyone in my network. It's a little outdated, but most of the advice and information in the course is still rock solid. The development guides like the ones for planning portfolio projects and building a demo reel in particular are gold that I haven't gotten much information from anywhere else, from other industry professionals, books, college classes, or otherwise. I'd love to see a new version of this course for our post-pandemic world soon, especially as QA has since become a lot more competitive and thus maybe isn't the perfect foot in the door for new designers that it used to be (though I think that will be my career trajectory). Still, this is a fantastic place to start, has clarified a lot for me that I wondered about for years, and is sure to be a course I come back to often as I progress in my level design journey.

I wish the was more source materials and example documents in this course, not limited to module, the course as a whole. Some modules would greatly benefit having source materials and example documents.

I'm a game design university graduate that still wasn't clear on the difference and function between Game Designers and Level Designers. Most times I asked this question I was told what they'd be doing day to day and not their actual function within the context of making a game. In the third video this course has told me both the day to day functions, the differences and similarities, and the higher level context of these two roles. AMAZING!

I find this course informative and instructive from a professional standpoint. To receive feedback from someone in the position to hire potential designers is extremely valuable and a big help. Thank you.

I have been working as an app UI designer for almost 4 years, and I finally decided to make the jump towards the gaming industry. I was a little lost about how to tackle this endeavor and that was the main reason I decided to start this course. The course is very informative, even if it's not centered on my specific specialization I have the feeling it can be applied for a variety of roles. The pace can be quite fast at times, but it doesn't feel overwhelming. You can always pause and take notes as the instructor suggests at the beginning of the lessons. Sometimes the points he makes feel a bit redundant, falling over and over the same points, but it also helps make those points clear and expand on information. Overall I would recommend this course. Short, sweet and very informative.

He provides very clear, precise explanations of what is needed for the portfolio, how it will likely be reviewed by the people who do the hiring, and gives the viewer a very realistic View of the hiring process. I am extremely pleased so far with this content!

The amount of knowledge and number of tips given is amazing. I feel very well prepared for starting and finishing my own portfolio, and beyond. This has provided excellent insight into all the questions one might have about getting started with a portfolio and landing a job in the gaming industry.

If you've been struggling with the design portfolio, I'd strongly recommend this to anyone who's trying to find the right path. I've used so much of this to help me not only with game related jobs but also for none-game related jobs too!
By Nicholas Bukdahl on 8/21/2017
To me the information seemed self-explanatory, only show your best quality work. The course contains a lot of repeated information, over multiple sections, and lectures, but there were a few good tips.
By Kyle Wolfe on 6/14/2016
Jarett did an excellent job explaining not only how to get the job I want in the industry but also the most practical steps to take to get from where I am to where I'm going. Any further mentoring would be a huge bonus and I'm looking forward to working directly with him as much as possible over the coming months.
