VMware ESXi and vSphere Admin Tutorial (Udemy.com)

Learn VMware ESXi & vSphere Quickly. A Practical Insight That Builds Real Skills

Our take

Based on the ratings of 711 students and a sample of their written reviews. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is an Infinite Skills tutorial that walks through setting up a vSphere environment from scratch: installing ESXi, working the vSphere Client, configuring networking and storage, building VMs, and adding vCenter, DRS, HA, and vSphere Data Protection on top. It runs 6.5 hours and was last updated in 2014, so it is aimed squarely at getting a development or test lab running, not at production-scale administration.

Reviewers who wanted a first pass at virtualization call it a solid overview: people moving off physical servers say it gave them enough confidence to make changes at work without breaking anything. The complaints cluster around delivery and depth. Several reviewers say the instructor talks fast in a flat, script-read tone with no diagrams, and that networking and storage get skimmed rather than explained. A few beginners also found it assumes background knowledge they didn't have yet, and subtitles have translation errors in some languages.

For the price, it does what it says: an entry point to ESXi and vSphere, not a deep dive. Newer VMware releases have changed plenty since 2014, so expect the interface and some features to look dated next to the version students are running today. Reviewers who wanted hands-on, example-driven teaching were let down by the talking-head, text-heavy style. If a basic conceptual tour of vSphere is the goal, it delivers that; if the goal is current, detailed admin skills, look for something newer.

Best forAnyone who needs a first look at ESXi, vCenter, and basic HA/DRS setup for a lab
Skip it ifYou already run VMware at work and need deep networking or storage troubleshooting

Pros

  • Reviewers say it gave them enough footing to make live changes at work confidently
  • Covers the full stack: ESXi install, vSphere Client, DRS, HA, and vSphere Data Protection
  • Good starting overview for people moving from physical servers to virtualization
  • All Levels course, 711 ratings on record, includes a certificate

Cons

  • Last updated in 2014, so the interface and some features are out of date
  • Several reviewers say the pace is fast and the delivery monotone with no diagrams
  • Networking and storage sections get covered only superficially, per reviews
Well presented material, though dated, it is a good overview of the technology.

Esperava material de suporte que no existe, testes para avaliar a aprendizagem e possibilidade de montar um lab experimental para atingir objetivos concretos, ver os videos no nada interessante, se no pudermos por a mo na massa.
I'm expecting to have some resource that could me helping to create a lab, put the hand on and get the knowledge by doing and not only by listening and seeing.

Really good course for beginners to take as a stepping stone. Beginners get introduced to VMware and get inculcated/introduced to virtualization basics.
