So far so good. Sometimes the constant talking doesn’t make complete sense, but it’s usually understandable. Doesn’t seem like the teacher prepared for the tutorial, just says whatever pops into his mind. Many students request drawings of the paintings to be done but none are provided so far.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course! Rod Moore has a relaxed approach to creating art and makes sketching & watercolor really fun. As a beginner I appreciated his detailed descriptions of the way he approaches sketching/painting landscapes. I definitely improved my skills during this course and I've signed up more of Rod Moore's classes.

Lovely loose painting instruction- great advice on colour mixing. This has really opened up my confidence on combining pen and watercolour. Really enjoyed the relaxed unpretentious presentation and calm approach. Thank you so very much. Regards from the bushveld in Limpopo province (South Africa).

Last lecture cut off abruptly with no wrap up of the course—just ended mid sentence. No closure. No summary. I would have liked to have seen the source photos of the sketches. I thought the use of the same several colors/mixtures over and over again was a bit mundane. Would have liked to see more variety of colors.

As a beginning sketcher, this class was good for me because I was not overwhelmed with difficult drawings. I also learned how to lay down initial water color washes and then go back and layer with darker colors as needed to add drama to the sketch.

I loved this course. The instructor gives very valuable tips to tackle landscapes. I have also liked the fact that the course is not an excuse to show off. He really goes down to the students’ level and gives the confidence needed to try on your own. There are some artists that make you feel you’ll never reach their excellence, whereas Mr Moore, even being a wonderful artist, is capable of reaching down and explaining things plain and simple. For me, it has been a very positive enjoyable course. Thank you.

I am reminded how to work with ink and watercolors. I used to do this way back when in high school, so it was fascinating to watch him work it. His paintings tend to be dark and moody, which I found interesting and learned new approach to painting the sky. Overall, a good course for a beginner like me.

I really enjoyed this class. It was a fantastic introduction to quick and attractive pen and water color sketching. It was instructive to see both his effective painting decisions and how he dealt with those occasional mistakes that we will all have to deal with. I liked seeing his demonstrations in real time and I did each of his exercises multiple times for practice. (I love to see my sketch book filled with all the different practice pieces!) It was also instructive to see how he did so much with a limited palette which is what you would have to use if you were sketching/painting outdoors on site. It is a nice compliment to the more studio-style watercolor class that I'm also watching. I feel like I learned a lot of principles and techniques that I can practice and apply to other compositions. I was sorry to have it end. I was ready for even more chances to paint with him. I look forward to Part 2!

This is a great pen and wash sketching class, with good information about water color basics - actually a lot of color basics, presented in an engaging manner. Perhaps I'm beyond basics, but I learned a lot from this. The title doesn't say it but this could be called: Pen & Wash Techniques for Travel Sketching Landscape. My only critique is that he uses one brush more than any other, but when he's describing equipment, he doesn't describe this one in enough detail to find it. (Note: the instructor posted the answer.)

Loved this course. Rod's style is easy going and non-intimidating, and he certainly knows his subject. This is the only course you'll ever need in beginner's 'pen and wash' as Rod covers all the basic information necessary. But most of all, he's so relaxed and encouraging, he gives you confidence and leaves you with the feeling that you CAN do it. If you're considering a course in 'pen and wash' then this is definitely the one to go for.
