Course Description

Web scraping is a highly paid, in demand skill

If you work with data, are a growth hacker, or starting a side hustle, you will need to start scraping data from websites sooner than you think ... the web is the worlds biggest database but only a few know how to get access to that data in an efficient way.
Starting to web-scrape by learning a framework like scrapy or beautiful soup is like trying to learn to dive before you can swim ... it looks like fun, and seems awesome, but when you land in the water, you realize you're missing something (oh, the swimming part!!) .... if you are interested in web scraping, stick with me and read on.... it'll be worth it, honestly....

Learn to web scrape from an expert - here's proof of the value:

"Finally, an instructor who knows how to teach students so that they are not lost or confused. Thank you!"
"Great course, wish I would have watched it before reading Python Scrapy documentation."
"I loved this course. It's a great introduction to web scraping! It's short, sweet and to the point!"
"Really impressed about theory and strategies to use.. goes beyond my expectation"

Web scraping (also known as scraping, scraping, harvesting and web data extraction), is both the art & craft of extracting data from websites. Data obtained from web-scraping is used for price comparison, business lead generation, and competitive analysis.

I created this course because I want to improve the quality of web-scraping information available. Most courses assume you know a lot about scraping already, but that's mostly not the case - this course doesn't try to teach you everything, the objective is to give you a solid foundation in the basics so you can start to master the art and craft of web scraping.

It doesn't matter if you use Python, Java, C# or any other language for webscraping, this short course is light on code, and tries to use imagery and animation whenever possible to get the message across. There are various frameworks that are used to assist in web scraping depending on the programming language you use. Some of these scraping libraries these include Scrapy, Beautiful Soup and others in the Python web scraping world, and JSoup and HtmlUnit for Java for example.

If you want to learn web scraping with python or any other language, don't take *any other course* until you take this one - you'll be glad you did .. trust me, when you do take your next web-scraping course, you'll be in a far stronger position to get the most from it :)

This course is unfinished, should have been much longer. Or, it should have been a upper level course who have a basic understanding in html, css, js because 5 mins introduction to css helps nobody. I hope someday instructor would prepare a more detailed course because he clearly has good teaching skills and expertise.

Overall great course. My two cents would be to zoom in a bit more so the codes are easier to read. The explanation on how the browser works is helpful, especially the section showing the information in the network tab of chrome developer tool. However, as an absolute beginner I feel the parsing part still a bit unclear, even after carefully watching the video back and forth a few times. That said I learned a lot still. Thank you sir!

I learned the basiscs I missed in many advanced courses in the Data analysis and wrnagling courses So this basics are really essential and are delivered in a simple clear way I want to thank Mr.Oneil, I owe him a lot for this If there's some basic sites that we can train scraping and parsing on IT would be great, or if you would recommend some sites that provide data that we can scrape

This was an outstanding introduction to web scraping! I really needed an overview to understand how involved learning this skill will be. The instructor breaks it down into very easy to understand steps, and thanks to that, what looked like a daunting journey now seems doable in a relatively short time. If the instructor's other courses are this well-produced, visual, and complete, I will certainly be a longtime student.

The course was exceptional and informative. As a previous Senior Instructor from RSA, and soon to be Professor, I would highly recommend this course if you want to get into Big Data, or advanced OSINT practices from Security, as well as any Threat Intelligence, All Source Intel, or other forms of Intel industries. The lab presented initial strong frustrations, but can be remediated for advanced user systems by the following: Visual Studio Code not executing python modules: powershell >>> pip install lxml requests Visual Studio Code >>> ctrl + shift + p >>> python > select interpreter, click python 3.X This will fix the module issues and the visual studio code. All code executes properly, you just need to fix this issue. While additional coverage for external sites would have been nice, it was not required to demonstrate the required skills. Additional content on covering how to filter for specific content, such as text inside a hyperlink (what I needed from the course) would have been exceptional, but again, not required to meet the stated objectives. Overall, exceptionally well done!

Clear, easy to understand, and a good investment of my time. This course was taught at just-the-right pace. It provided a solid foundation for "grokking" the basics of web scraping. I was amazed at how much value this course provided, and at its quality. ONeill is far superior to most tech instructors I've encountered on Udemy. There's no rambling, mouse-pointer wiggling, unintelligible accent, verbal cruft, or "winging it". He's a well-prepared professional. The topics covered stopped just shy of equipping its student with a skill set adequate for typical real-world competency, though. Most web scraping projects will require following hyperlinks, and dealing with pagination, too. These essential topics were not covered.

Is good for complete beginners but some classes are redundant and repetitive. The material on the external resource is pretty good, but I don't understand C#. Maybe it could be an excellent course If the material on the external resource are included and explained on the video lessons with python examples. An maybe also is better to create another course about more advanced web scraping with C#

Before taking this course, I already made a couple of simple scrapers with BeautifulSoup, but made minimal use of the Developer Tools because I had no idea what most of the tabs were good for. The audio is clear. The content is very good for getting started with scraping. It was especially useful to explain what some of the tabs in the Developer Tools are good for. However, most of the video that has python code or HTML markup is way, way too small to read. On many parts, this text occupies a very small fraction of the screen real estate, so there is no reason why the view could not be zoomed in to make it readable.

He is pretty to the point and doesn't bullshit around which I like - plus its free because hell he comes off as so succesfull - why would he need to charge you - its basically fun for him & in-line with the open-source philosophy that much of the IT sector follow today. I suppose If I'd change anything it be to add more excersises for uses to do at home before going off to do it themselves. Also some feedback on what existing downloadable scraper solutions are reliable or not & if its worthwhile paying for one or not.

I loved this course. It's a great introduction to web scraping! It's short, sweet and to the point! It's also kind of funny (with the cat pictures :D) which makes it even more engaging. I especially like how you used minimal technical jargon, which was a highlight for people like myself, who have a little technical experience, but aren't experts. I really do hope you make some full-fledged web scraping courses! Would love to learn more stuff from you. :)
