Our take
Based on the ratings of 334 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in December 2018. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a compact introduction to Zabbix, the open source network monitoring tool, aimed at network admins and sysadmins who already know basic Linux commands and can spin up a CentOS virtual machine. Over 27 lectures and about 3.8 hours, instructor The Startup Central Co. walks through installation, configuration, triggers, maps, alerts, and user management. It is built to get a beginner from zero to a running monitoring setup, not to turn them into an expert.
Reviewers who liked it say the explanations are clear enough to follow along and the pacing works for someone new to Zabbix, with several calling it a solid first look at the tool. The complaints cluster around three things: the instructor moves fast and sometimes seems to be figuring things out live, several lectures skip past macros, proxies, and how things get calculated under the hood, and a few reviewers flag blurry on screen text and a repeated greeting that gets old. One recent review points out the course covers an older Zabbix release, which matters for anyone working against a current server.
Given the course was last updated in December 2018 and Zabbix has moved well past that version since, treat this as a way to learn the concepts and basic workflow rather than a step by step match for what you will see on screen today. At under four hours it is a quick, cheap way to get oriented before jumping into the official docs or a more current course. Fine for absolute beginners, not the pick if you already know the basics and want the advanced stuff the title promises.
Pros
- Clear, step by step Zabbix installation walkthrough for total beginners
- Covers triggers, maps, alerts, and user management in one short course
- Short at under four hours, easy to finish in a weekend
- Covers the full setup process from a blank server to monitoring
Cons
- Last updated in 2018, before several major Zabbix version changes
- Skips proxies, macros, and the inner workings the title's Pro promises
- Instructor moves quickly and some reviewers found the delivery unpolished
This was a very good and thorough introduction to Zabbix. It told me what I needed to know, which is the basic setup and functionality of this monitoring tool.
Listed as All Levels, but really suits beginners with basic Linux skills, not admins chasing advanced Zabbix features.

The course have no explanation of zabbix proxies , no explanation of inner workings (how things are calculated and queried) , no explanation of different hosts , macros (what they mean , what are most useful ones , how to effectively utilize them ) . It says "from beginner to pro" , but it not goes beyond beginner level .

Great course for a beginner level user who wants to understand key concepts and components of Zabbix. The tutorials that accompany the explanation had enough detail to follow the instructor easily. Great job, thank you!

No Audio on sessions part way though... yet audio worked fine via itunes etc... Other browser didn't fix it. Restarting whole session fixed it - frustrating. Too much reliance on rote clicking of menus and pointers to existing docs. Already been through that? Author numerous times seemed confused on what version/menus they were running.

This was a very good and thorough introduction to Zabbix. It told me what I needed to know, which is the basic setup and functionality of this monitoring tool. I am now ready to dive deeper into the subject and start working with it on the job. Thank you for this course!

It was a decent course. Can be a little difficult to follow sometimes as some things are not broken apart that well to where it feels the instructor is assuming you are connecting the dots to grasp what is going on. However, he is a nice and informative teacher on the use & implementation of Zabbix, and was still instructive.

I'm a little disappointed with this course. The name of the course is from Beginner to Pro. Unfortunately, I expected, after a well-explained and presented Zabbix installation, a step-by-step system configuration. For example, how to configure and set alarms for connected a new device to the network, notifications about low toner level in the printer, way to write your own template or macro, etc. I hope that in the new version of the course my remarks will be taken into consideration. Also, the teacher sometimes showed too fast how to choose options or what commands to enter to console. A misunderstanding, for example, was also statement: here I was preparing a formula for SNMPv2 agent (Interfaces.ifTable.ifEntry.ifinOctetcs.6) without explaining how and from where to find it and do it. However, thank you very much for this course. It certainly contained a lot of useful information which I will use with my daily basis work with Zabbix. Greetings. Jan.

Given the lack of relevant tutorials on the topic, its pretty good and valuable. Could be improved with more UserParameter examples and other kind of items (What is Zabbix trapper, etc). I would recommend this course.
By Tzoumas Panagiwths on 11/28/2018
So far its amazing i was up and running in no time at all.The explanations are very easy to undestand and the progression is really smooth and quite fast without leaving something out.
By Lucas W. Rasmussen on 11/5/2018
Packed with links for relevant resources, downloads etc. All of the resources can really be a rabbit hole. If you are new to network monitoring, just stick to the lessons one at a time and try to copy what Maks does and you'll be fine. Detailed with a good overview.
By Jonny Svendsen on 11/5/2018
So far so good. I like how each lesson has links to the relevant Zabbix instructions page with more details, how-tos etc. Hard to get stuck.
