Course Description

This course is complete introduction to GIS and QGIS. Starting at the beginner level we'll cover basic terminology and conventions, some of the fundamental principles of GIS, an overview of what QGIS is and then we'll get started with practical experience of using QGIS. All sample data is original and provided for you.

The course will take around 2 hours to complete but playing around with the software is a great way to learn so don't worry if it takes you longer.

The course is structured a mixture of lectures, quizzes and we'll end with a practical to put into practice all the knowledge you've gained. The practical element is crucial and by all means try some new things out with the software. Doing is learning!

You should take this course if you need to learn the basics of QGIS quickly and if you'd like to sample QGIS before taking other courses. More advanced courses will be coming soon.
Who this course is for:
This course is for students that have no (or little) prior knowledge of GIS and QGIS 3.
It is probably not for those looking for more advanced use of QGIS 3.

I enjoyed the course and found it very useful. It was though a little bit light on content.

Concise introduction the QGIS... Covered enough of the basics to get started on a project. Highly recommend this course.

Great course. Really informative, good tone and speed and and I liked how the tutor does not presume any previous IT knowledge of the user. Think it would be great to include more quizzes so the user can be reassured the information is retained.

First time I have ever taken an online course like this in COVID times, and I was very impressed. I thought you built up each section well, so that we weren't overwhelmed with technical knowhow off the bat! Easy to listen to, well put together, and straight forward to follow. I have learned a lot more about mapping! The only thing I would say, is that things have moved around a bit more in the software since the time of your recording, so it was a bit harder to find some things for the course. But it wasn't a huge problem, I managed to get round it easy enough! Might be something worth thinking about later on when the software gets updated again in the future, as you might lose some of the less techy folk. But other than that, spot on, thank you! :-)

It covers the basics to start working with gis data. Creating and interact with maps. It also covers basic tools and moving around Qgis. Easy to follow and with hands on exercises.

Was good, would have liked to see a bit more on creating a map from scratch.

Good introduction for a beginner

A very basic introduction to the topic and probably many people can figure out by themselves what is taught here, just by reading free tutorials.
That said the course is well thought and well presented, the instructor is knowledgeable and has evidently put lot of effort to structure it in a way easy to understand to anyone. He speaks clearly and without hurrying, the slides are well made, the important steps are zoomed on the screen and easy to see. Overall a very pleasant learning experience.
