I Have learned so much more from one blender tutorial on youtube. For free than from this lesson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYj6e-72RDs and I'm not saying it to be mean. but in the best part of the lesson the stuff you're supposed to be teaching. you speed up the camera! the whole point of teaching this course. is to at least show some hotkeys. anyway! sorry buddy!

By Jason Carter on 1/6/2018

Given that I've played with Blender off and on for many years, I thought I knew a fair bit about it... This class thoroughly showed me otherwise. I know I'll be coming back to these videos for quite a while to come and picking up material that I missed in previous viewings. This is especially true of the Node editor and the tools contained therein. My one suggestion would be to put together a PDF quick reference of the keyboard shortcuts peppered through the course. Otherwise there is a lot of "hunt-and-find" going on with relation to the way to more quickly manage your modeling.

By Marina Landisberg on 3/5/2017

Quite good for beginner. Instructor shows techniques. It would be nicer if "cc" (text subtitles would be available for videos). I was able to reproduce/model hydrant and chain, up to some degree follow lightening, but began to lose with texturing/rendering, juts watched. sometimes details on video are too small, hard to notice which controls/buttons/settings were changed, better to enlarge portions of video, and slow down in "demo" lectures that are in the end of sections, there could be maybe 4-5 lectures in place one such demo video.

Provides a good level of comfort as to what I will be learning, and it gives me a good sense of the instructor. He is easy to understand and personable. I am already feeling that I can get a good grasp on Blender and begin to use it in a reasonable amount of time. I can really now appreciate how much is in this course, even at the half-way mark. I know I will repeat this course until I become fluid with the features. I also know this will have a great impact on my architectural designs. That comment was at the beginning of the course---just a few lessons in. Now I feel more humble. The latter lessons got a bit intense and harder to follow. I would suggest you use a palette highlighter program to help the user quickly locate where you are working from, especially because the Blender buttons are tiny. Lots and lots of useful information in the course which I hope to use some day, though I feel I will take this course several times to absorb the wonderful things that Blender offers.

While doing his best do give a detailed roadmap on how to do general 3D art in Blender, the instructor completely forgot to do it in a way where students can tag along. Without having a small, easy, beginner oriented project, this class missed the interactivity that will make it great and useful and became rather quickly some sort of Blender reference with myself watching the video just to know what I might need for my future 3d art rather to an actual art. That is too bad because the course is actually well-prepared with a good support from the instructor. I hope other courses in my collection will put me on the right track for modeling and then this course will prove to be useful for materials, uv-mapping and rendering later...

Wow, this is the course to learn and understand not only how to use Blender quickly as the title says, but how powerful it is for being a free open source software. I'm blown away by how quickly I understood and practiced throughout the course just playing around. I've found throughout my life that I'm a fast learner but that is only because of the great teachers and instructors I've been blessed with. Brandon Hix is that dude! If you take this course all the way through, you will be excited, insipred and hungry to get to 3D Modeling as a beginner like myself. This couldn't a better time to get started with Blender learning from Brandon. I would've liked if he took us through building a model from scratch, but it's completely ok because his main job is to equip beginners and that among all other awesome things about this course is why I gave a 5 star rating. Thank you Brandon and I appreciate you! Oh and make sure you go to the end for how he closes the course out, I you love art and creatiing it like I do, you will get emotional.

If you are new to blender, you will benefit from the first section of this course. But I felt that the instructor went to fast in explaining things shortly after the first section. I ended up replaying video over and over again to see what I was missing, but then some of what I was missing, was not explained at all or even very well. I felt like more time could have been put into the very basics such as navigating the viewports and using the different views (quad view and such) and also just how to get around the user interface to do what you need to do. The modeling the fire hydrant tutorial was a demo and I realize that but if you see how fast he was going while modeling the hydrant you would be lucky to glean anything off of that tutorial and maybe there is a reason for that, but why I'm not sure. No doubt Brandon knows his stuff, but I felt that he could have explained things better in many of the tutorials. I understand that this would make for a longer course but it's hard to learn the more detailed and advanced stuff when the basic and foundational stuff is not taught that well. Still, I believe most can get something from this course. I myself went onto another Blender course.

By James Wilcox on 8/31/2015

This is a great course for the beginning modeler/artist or even experienced artists who are new to Blender as a tool. Brandon speaks clearly and is easy to understand. The lessons are grouped well and are just long enough to get the information across without going on for too long. My only criticism is I could not find any practice materials for the course, thus the 4 star rating. Had the fire hydrant scene been included, I would have given this 5 stars. Overall it is a great course.

By Russell Campbell on 8/2/2015

Hix is organized and covers exactly what he outlines at the beginning of the course. I've always tried to learn Blender by looking things up in the manual and then watching the odd video when stuck, but my work sessions were always so far apart I would forget almost everything. I always felt stuck at a beginner level until taking this course. I wrote up my own hotkey sheet while watching the first few sections, and then just enjoyed the remaining videos. If I have any more trouble I can always come back to these lectures to review very quickly, so it's just nice to have the *basics*, which are overwhelming on their own, in one organized place. Looking things up in the Blender manual is ridiculous! I took this course on sale, and I feel like I got it for a steal! I would totally take another of Hix's future courses on some of the other aspects of Blender shown in his hexagon diagram if he does any in the future.

I've just finished the course and I can highly recommend it. I've been trying to learn Blender as a hobby through a combination of books, youtube videos and Udemy and so far this course has been the most clear and time efficient way to learn. The power and features of Blender are pretty overwhelming for a beginner and Brandon does a very good job of guiding his students through a selected modelling workflow which reduces the complexity. He does not assume students have any previous experience with 3D modelling so the course is suitable for complete beginners. Note that the course is focused on modelling so if you're looking for animation this is not specifically for you. That said, if animation is your end goal but you are entirely new to Blender then this course will definitely provide you with the foundation you need to move on to animation. I tried two other (cheaper) Blender classes on Udemy before this one but ended up asking for a refund for those two because the quality and professionalism was very low and I wasn't learning anything. Blender 3D Unleashed is a more expensive course and it has correspondingly higher production quality and is taught by a professional 3D modelling artist. Brandon was helpful and quick to respond to questions in the forums. The supplementary materials help you follow along with the more detailed lectures but for most of the lectures I was able to follow along and repeat the steps without having to pause to catch up. I highly recommend you do the same so that you learn where things are in the UI and also get some practice with Blender's many hot keys. I'm an engineer and a software developer and my reason for learning Blender is that I want to create and edit models for my own OpenGL game engine as well as for Unity and UE4 for my hobby VR projects. After taking this course I have the basic skills I need to do that and also move on to more advanced topics. I'm looking forward to Brandon's future courses!
