Course Description

Are you looking to break out of Excel and grow your career?

Demand for Tableau Skills is Up 1,581%... it's time you learn this skill as an analyst!

In this course you will learn:

  • The difference between Excel and Tableau

  • How to transition from an Excel based Analyst into a Tableau Developer

  • How to connect Tableau to Excel

  • How to join, union and blend data sources

  • How to build visualizations

  • How to build interactive dashboards

  • How to build a reporting infrastructure

Build a Reporting Infrastructure

In this course you will learn how to build infrastructure around reporting. This approach to analysis will help you scale your ability to communicate to your clients, boss or business owner. Instead of creating manual ad hoc reports like most Excel users, you will learn how to create interactive dashboards that will empower your end user to quickly see the analysis they need.

Content and Overview

This course is designed for those analysts who are fairly experienced with Excel and will provide a path forward towards more potent analysis through Data Visualization. We will walk through 2 case studies together. The first case study is designed to get your comfortable with Tableau then, in the second case study, we will move on to a real world use case where you will get to see the potency of Tableau.

I tell stories through data. Currently I am the Director of Analytics and Co-founder of Silvertone Analytics. We focus on three main verticals - Manufacturing, Marketing and Nonprofit Impact Analysis.

Outside of my consultancy, I work with students helping them break into the analytics field and I am also on the Board of Directors for Triad Local First, a nonprofit that promotes localism here in the Greensboro, NC. On the board I advise on how to leverage data to drive strategy but I also teach classes available to the 360 local member businesses on how they can use their data to drive their decision making process. I love getting to work with these small businesses!

I post weekly content to my Youtube channel focused on Tableau and how you can grow your Analytics Career.

Course could have been better if instructor can add one more hour and help with navigation, little more explanation, UI overview, tabs overview of Tableau, I was looking for a short beginner course based on timing of course but I find many things missing, but good to see the intro of tableau in an hour for a beginner

Overall, this was a great course. A couple places in which it fell short, were: 1. Very rapid mouse movements [with the default, small mouse cursor] when accessing newly seen features, coupled with fast clicking through to these new features, prompting multiple stops and rewinds to see what was just clicked. This breaks the otherwise awesome flow of the videos. Same thing can be said for very quick dragging and dropping around the dashboard. 2. Using features told not to use with no explanation. For example, there was one point where you'd said not to use a feature because it would potentially impact all data, and the next time we see that feature, no explanation was provided as to why we're now using the one feature we were previously advised against using. Aside from these items, I cannot really think of any other reasons to ding the course as again, the covered material was great. Thank you.

This course was a good high level introduction of the difference between Excel and Tableau. I like that you can drop updated datasets into an existing dashboard and see updated visualizations without the need to recreate the dashboard.

This is the first Tableau course on Udemy I have been able to complete because it was delivered in a way that was easy to follow. Tableau is something I have wanted to learn for some time now, and I feel this presentation is a great source to getting my feet wet in the arena.

This was an amazing course, very easy to follow, I managed to follow what the lecturer was doing, I only had one small problem with the KPI dashboard but no fault of the lecturer it was something I missed.

By Anonymized User on 1/2/2024

It was good, but the explanation speed was not constant (sometimes it went to slow and suddenly it increased really quick). Also, it´s kind of confusing when the presenter started a new project or sheet without previous warning.

By Anonymized User on 12/8/2023

I think the presenter is very knowledgeable about how to use Tableau. Unfortunately, as a Tableau beginner, I think some of the terms and uses skipped necessary information to grasp the content completely. I'd have liked more "why this is doing this" and "this means" explanations, and not so much a walk-through of "click here, then there".

By Khoi Nguyen on 8/2/2023

It was a great overview of what Tableau is, what it can do, what you can learn, etc. It was great! I love the use of analogies that ties back to Excel as well!

By Alissa Pummell on 3/8/2023

This was a really helpful orientation. The length was perfect to start to understand how Tableau is laid out and how to work with it relative to Excel. A few of the logistical details of the course could have been a bit smoother (e.g., the conclusion video appears to be an intro for a different course, there is more wrap up at the end of each lecture than needed). Yet, would still recommend given the value I received for the time invested.

I could understand all the section. for me, a newbie in Tableau, this course so much gives me help. for you want to enroll this course, extract first data resource (excel to tableau data) so you can save your Tableau exercise (maybe i skip this in section 1) but this okay i can handle even find the solution though in hours, sometimes mistake make you learn more.
