Course Description

Up to date and compatible with the latest versions of C# and .NET

All resources are available to all operating systems - follow along from Windows, Linux or MacOS. - (Includes special install instructions for MS SQL Server for Linux and Mac**)

"The course was a great match! Dominic is a very good teacher who explains this subject in a fun and engaging manner." - Risto

"As a seasoned programmer looking to refresh my knowledge in C#, this walkthrough was very clear and concise. I could have been a complete beginner and still understood." - Max

"The knowledge gained from this course is very valuable. The pacing is great and the explanations are very clear. I think the most important thing about this course is the instructor - he has such good energy, keeping you engaged." - Chris

Learning Paths:

There are 3 different Modular pieces of this course that can be mixed and matched to fit your learning needs, depending on what you already know and what you want to learn.

  1. C# Basics (and general programming basics)

  2. .NET Core 9 API Development

  3. MS SQL Server and Azure SQL

If you are new to programming, or just new to C#, you can get an in depth understanding of basic programming concepts like variable types, data structures, classes and methods in our C# Basics section.

If you already know C# that's great, you can skip over that basics section and start learning how to build powerful REST APIs with .NET Core.

If you already build REST APIs with .NET Core and just want to write cleaner code, learn how to decouple logic, or consolidate endpoints with more dynamic logic - I highly recommend starting with the SQL section, brushing up on Dapper in the Crash course section if you need to, and then checking out the advanced section of the course.

(If that sounds complicated and confusing, it won't at all by the time you are done with the course)

This course is also set up so that the SQL section is entirely optional, although I do think it is very useful and I highly recommend it. As much as I think you would benefit from learning SQL along with C#, I do understand that building REST APIs and writing SQL are two different skills.

If you just want to focus on the API development side of the course, I am happy to be your personal SQL Developer on the side by providing a few scripts you can just drop into Azure Data Studio to get things set up for you in the database, so that you can go through the entire .NET Core part of the course without missing a beat.

If you are new to software development, congratulations on starting your journey to become a developer! I look forward to seeing you inside!

"Tried many courses, but I used to get bored/stuck or just had partial understanding. This is one of the best courses. Will recommend this course for anyone learning .NET API development. Using Visual Studio Code, instead of visual studio helped me understand some thing I took for granted and never learned in VS. Also love the fact that you had C# and SQL sections. It was useful for me."
- Abishek

"I have gone through about 10 courses on Udemy before this one and I found Dominics course on C# .NET Core to be the best I have gone through yet. It is extensive with many exercises. Dominic while never really holding your hand follows you through the course and explain his design choices and methods so you can understand what you are doing. You will learn a lot from C# fundamentals, MVC design schemes, MS SQL servers, SQL Query Language, Azure. Take your time. It will be well worth it. I recommend this course highly."
- Peter

"This is a very in depth course which presented me with many challenges. I have about 1/3rd left to go at this point and usually I like to wait until I've completed things before leaving a review. That said, I decided to just do it now. Dominic's support in answering questions and offering solutions to problems throughout the entirety of this course was amazing. I can't tell you how many courses I've bought to find out there is a dead community, no one to go to with problems, and outdated lectures or assignments that haven't been kept up with. There is none of that here and I greatly appreciate it!"
- Emily

"My Udemy library is a lot like my Steam library. I've got a lot of courses in there but not many that I've completed. This is one of the few that I've actually finished, and genuinely enjoyed. I knew a little C# going in, and I've done a fair amount of work with SQL in terms of data analysis, but the application layer and dotnet was something of a mystery to me so I wanted to learn more about that. The pace is really good, the delivery is really good and I've really learned a lot. Definitely have the confidence to start expanding out of my comfort zone and experiment with some new projects."
- Lisa

"It's been an amazing journey so far, well thought off, clear, simple, and on point. I've been struggling to understand this whole backend concept for about a year now, on and off with different courses until I started your course. You made it so much easier. you are awesome Dominic Tripodi. I will definitely purchase more courses from you"
- Holliday

"I am Japanese. I took a lecture using the translation function. The video was very easy to understand. Even if there was something I didn't understand, when I asked a question, the instructor gave me an answer immediately. If you are lost in the .net lecture, I recommend it."

Dominic Tripodi

Computers have been very important and interesting to me for my entire life, and I've always loved learning about the way that computers can be used to build tools for business and entertainment.

The most interesting thing to me has always been what goes on behind the scenes.

I work a lot with data, databases, and I build tools to manage and display data.

APIs and Databases are the most important building blocks in modern application development.

I build tools for storage, movement, management and transformation of data

These types of tools fuel most modern applications.

Most modern companies need or have software that uses these types of tools and the skills needed to build these tools are in high demand.

Why I teach

As a self-taught developer, I spent a lot of time learning and deciding what to learn about and I wanted to create content and resources to simplify and streamline the process for new developers.

I took this course about 2 years ago to learn how to use Dapper (I love SQL and wanted to incorporate it more into my APIs than Entity Framework allows) and .NET Core in general, and it was extremely helpful! I've returned to it now as I start a new personal project, and it has proved invaluable again for ensuring that I set up everything correctly. I tried numerous courses on APIs and this has by far been the best. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking to master these technologies!

TLDR: Free courses on YouTube are better. This course is not for beginners, you need prior knowledge of OOP and SQL. He jumps between topics but never explains anything, also he covers the topics at a very basic level. For most of the course, the instructor typed and read out loud what he was typing. Barely explain, and most of the time show something and then say, "This is not in the scope of the course". Also, there is a lot of bad code practices. In the end, I followed the course twice (to give it a chance) and I didn't learned anything.

A decent course for learning how to navigate c#, sql, and build APIs. If the course had practice projects and went more in depth about the topics it could be considered a beginner to master course. As the course is, i'd say it's a beginner to intermediate course. The instructor does a good job showing how to build an api with a database from scratch. However, the course feels like a follow along and without any practice projects it requires making your own practice projects which can be overwhelming for beginners. It would also have been nice to have advanced sections for both entity framework and dapper since EF is used by many major corporations but there is only an advanced section for dapper. The course only focuses on using c# with sql and APIs. Having a section learning how to display the data we get back from our API on a website would also be very beneficial.

I would definitely take another course from Dominic. His sense of explanation is superb. Very concise, however concise enough to get to the point. A+ teacher, because I believe he has a passion to teach and loves/enjoys computer programming. Hopefully, I can make him proud as to when I will become more competent in my programming skills. I consider myself a novice in computers, and somewhat a beginner student in computer programming. But I have a drive to learn new things, even at times its hard to find motivation to learn. Just keep trying and Im so glad to be learning from such a wonderful and enthusiastic instructor such as Dominic. Ps. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this course available for people who are looking to upskill themselves. I can say 1 thing: I thought database programming was a chore and tedious. But I learned from Dominic that it can be a valuable tool for any program application. So, my advice as a beginner programming learning the craft is to give it a chance. Even though i could only see myself as an Application Programming in the near future; i see the necessity of database programming. Stick through it and keep going. I hope some1 reads this some time; and is probably in the same boat as I was in (4/2024). I would like to say I thoroughly enjoyed learning every aspect of this course. I'm almost finished with the course. So i decided to give a review early for the instructor. Great job with this udemy course.

Originally wanted to give it a 4/5 (I have very strict standards). However Dominic (author) has added new content to clear up some of the fundamentals, particularly his videos on Dapper/EF Definitions and Async/Await. Previously, one of the major setbacks I had was that I didn't understand why things worked the way they did. He is as active as he says he is, on his Facebook group and has sufficiently answered my questions. To improve the course I suggest he keeps adding the knowledge videos (same as above) to cover more topics which other students may find difficult, particularly the Claims/Tokens/Auth bits in the API Section.

Really enjoyed the course. A lot of useful information that is applicable to real-world scenarios, and the instructor's teaching style is engaging, making the course fun to follow. The content has been kept up to date with the newer versions of .NET, too. The course might not be suitable for complete beginners to programming, but should be perfectly fine for someone who has experience writing code in a different language.

Thank you, Dominic, for creating this fantastic course! As a front-end developer who has been working with the .NET platform for a few years, this course helped me better understand how APIs and SQL Server work. The stored procedures taught in this course are in great detail, which is better than some .NET courses that only teach students Entity Framework. If Dominic could create a more advanced course teaching complex SQL queries as well as more knowledge about Azure CI/CD, Unit testing and Microservices, I would definitely enroll in it. Thanks again for your hard work!

I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn C#, .NET Core and Visual Studio Code. Dominic Tripodi organized the course in a manner that was very easy to understand. Dominic is also quick to respond to questions that students may have. My style of study was that after each section, I rewatched again and typed in the code using Visual Studio 2022. I also took note and stored my notes under each section so I could go back to. Then I used what I learned from the course to work on a different project so I can retain the knowledge that I just learned. Dominic also has a section that introduces dapper framework if you are interested to learn. Practice makes perfect! This is indeed a best course so far in Udemy.

By George D on 6/27/2023

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Despite having some prior knowledge of C#, SQL, and Azure, I had never built an API before. The course impressed me with its impeccable structure and clear explanations. Dominic, the instructor, was not only welcoming but also eloquent in his delivery. If I may provide some suggestions for improvement - I believe it would be beneficial to incorporate more visualizations of concepts before diving into coding. For instance, introducing a slide with images illustrating the process (or pseudo code) before demonstrating the code. For example, with the construction and application of a JWT, it would have enhanced comprehension had I seen how it worked before coding it. Additionally, I would appreciate more challenges throughout the course. By explaining the desired outcome and encouraging us to find our own solutions, it would foster a more engaging learning experience. Often, I found myself attempting to anticipate the next steps, pausing the video, and attempting the task independently before referring back to the instructional content. Nonetheless, I must emphasize that this course was outstanding, and I am genuinely grateful for it. If you ever decide to publish a course on front-end development, I would unquestionably be eager to purchase it. Thank you, George
