Course Description

AI is changing how software is built — and if you’re not learning how to work with AI coding assistants, you’re falling behind.

In this hands-on, project-based course, you’ll master Anthropic's Claude Code, an advanced AI coding assistant that runs directly from the command line (CLI). Guided by Frank Kane, former senior engineer and senior manager at Amazon — and instructor to over one million learners worldwide — you’ll learn how to collaborate with Claude Code to massively boost your productivity while maintaining professional development standards.

This course is aimed at beginners who are new to Claude Code.

Together, we’ll build a complete online radio station web app from scratch — starting with fast, AI-assisted “vibe coding” to get a working prototype up and running in minutes. Then we’ll take it further — all the way to production.

You’ll learn how to use Claude Code to:

  • Build and refactor a real full-stack web application through conversational prompts

  • Implement unit tests, security scans, and continuous integration (CI)

  • Optimize site speed and responsiveness for production environments

  • Translate a wireframe and style guide into a professional UI/UX

  • Integrate with GitHub for effective version control and collaboration

  • Automate workflows with Claude-powered GitHub Actions

    • Automatically review pull requests using AI

    • Close GitHub issues by simply tagging @claude with instructions

  • Use Subagents for specific development tasks without polluting your context window

  • Use Model Context Protocol (MCP) to integrate Claude Code with external systems

This isn’t just a playground for AI tools — it’s a realistic journey through a full development lifecycle. You’ll experience the limitations of AI assistants firsthand, and learn how your human insight is essential in steering Claude toward clean, secure, and maintainable code.

Note: Claude Code is not free. If you want to follow along hands-on in this course, expect to spend around $10-$20 in Claude API credits. You can of course just watch and learn for free!

Why this course matters:

Companies are actively expecting developers to incorporate AI tools into their workflows. Claude Code represents the next evolution in developer productivity, and understanding how to wield it effectively will give you a serious edge in the job market.

By the end of this course, you’ll walk away with:

The course delivers on its promises. Focuses on building a prototype using Claude Code and taking it to Production. Clear, concise and to the point.

This course has actually been a lot of fun so far. Frank has not over-explained anything, yet I am finding myself learning a lot about technologies I have little experience with. Choosing an on online radio station as the project is great for engagement, immediate payoffs, just complex enough to be interesting, but not intimidating. I think the costs have risen a lot since the course was recorded, so an update on that is probably needed.

Thanks Frank for this course. I think this is a fair initial introduction to Claude Code for technical people, and portrays very clearly the difference between prototype (where LLMs excel at) and production (where you really need to indicate to LLMs what to do). I'm knocking two stars off because (1) I don't know what this course provides that most YouTube tutorials don't and (2) the course is slightly outdated after 1 year, the Claude Code harness has had quite a few improvements already.

This course was outstanding for someone who is a retired software engineer. It provided the outline of how to work with Claude Code but allow the student to follow along and if they wanted to implement the entire project. I like Frank's style easy to follow and informal just what like working with someone pair programming. Thanks so much for the course.

Excellent training, Frank is a very knowledgeable and clear instructor, he made very easy and natural to navigate the dense content of the course, I did enjoy and learn a lot. The format of training is very simple and keeps you engaged.

This course was somewhat technical for a business Claude Chat user. I appreciate the common language approach that even the basic user could understand. Only suggestion is to be sure when using acronyms (of which there are many), identify what the acronym is the first time it is used.

By Peter Buswell DrVoIP on 6/3/2026

Frank is not only a gifted instructor, he is an experienced real world expert. He not only provides the technical detail in easy to digest instruction, using "hands on" direction, but often injects the reality of the "real world" into his presentation. Often when things go sideways, instructors edit and retake. Frank shows the error and the recovery, real time. This real world expertise is what sets this instructor apart. You are learning from the best!

It's a really good course. He is walking through a life creation of a website and showing how the tool can provide a much easier way of achieving a development goal. Hearing him say that equivalent work took him weeks before, is very interesting.

By Artur Farias Marques on 3/18/2026

As expected from all Sundog Education courses, this one is straightforward and delivers on its promises. The experience, besides being fun, opens your mind to improvements and other uses of the Claude Code. The instructor, Frank Kane, is excellent, truly reliable, and has great teaching skills.

By Lucas Della on 3/14/2026

I didn’t have specific expectations regarding the content, so I ended up enjoying it. However, looking at the broader context, I believe the title might not be the most appropriate. Something like “Building a Project from Scratch with Claude” would probably be more accurate. I didn’t see discussions about the pros and cons of different architectures for projects using Claude.
