Course Description

BIG update for this course !!

I have made several new videos, worksheets, a workbook and even a 3D model.

Drawing Monsters and creatures is not only fun but is vital to your story, graphic novel, manga, or game.

This course is about generating ideas, drawing, and designing creatures.

This is the course for those of you that want to learn Creature Concept Design. This is not another “watch me draw” tutorial that does not help you learn the process of creature design.

  • This is the course that you need if you want to learn to create monsters and creatures for videogames and comics and animation. This is not an illustration course although you will be drawing a lot.

  • If you are ready to learn a process and workflow for designing then you can’t afford to pass up this course.

  • When you are finished with this course you will not only have a solid workflow and new skills, you will have the confidence to get things done.

  • Rather than trying to sell you, just take a look at what the course has to offer. I’m sure you will see the time and care that was taken to create this course for you.

Rich Graysonn

Aside from being an artist as long as I can remember I started offering a few tutorials on Youtube. Little did I know that by teaching people the fundamentals of art and anatomy i'd begin a new dimension to my career. Being a working freelance illustrator with a youtube channel is hard work, and I wouldn't change a thing. I steadily expanded my work from clients who needed branding to doing work on indie games and apps. i enjoy helping artists and non artist achieve that next level. The road to artistic expression and freedom is paved with hard work and dedication. There are setbacks and monsters to slay , but the rewards are great.

This is a very solid course to start getting into monster design and it will help you a lot if you are blank and don't know how to design your character. In addition, it explains the complete workflow that will help you a lot to structure your work and perform better. The last lessons are more about practice than knowledge itself, so I recommend doing them to get the most out of the entire lesson.

So far I am very pleased to be taking this course and am impressed by how very thorough it is! My only concerns are on my own end, right now I do not have the technological means to make digital art with a tablet. I am relying solely on pencil and paper.

So, i am start this course and I*m already like its. Becouse teacher is give you all you need, like a structure off creature design, in the attachment. It is a big plus! (Im Russian, so sorry for my English, Im just learned =) )

I have now completed the third section in this course. i'm not overly impressed by it, but I do feel like it is giving me a better understanding of what I need to think about when designing a creature, i.e. like how the anatomy needs to be modified to accommodate more arms, heads etc. also, using the stick figure approach, which the instructor encourages you to do, allows you to develop a good level of confidence in your own work. I'll update my review, once i've completed this course.

Although I have only just started, the instructor is very clear and the tutorials/instructions are easy to understand. It is very much helping rebuild my base of understanding.

The course is well structured, and Rich responds to all comments within 24 hours. I haven't even fully completed the course yet, but I have already noticed quite a bit of difference in the quality my work.

most vids I've seen is multiple circles and sticks which is how many other tutors say is how you make JUST ONE TYPE of character, this helped alot and i just made different types of creature outlines really easily without much stress. the main points helped giving more life to creations without just making it too structured or human(if you catch my point).

I'm loven the pace, not to fast, not to slow. The way the ideas for generating ideas is presented is just to kool. Then the process of how to work out those ideas and slowly creating something...like I said I'm loven it. Now that I have completed the course, I will say that it was very educational. I am sorry that I have not submitted anything, but I will. I am still working full time and close to retiring. when I go home in the evening there are just to many distraction. So I have done this entire course at work on my lunch hour. With winter coming, I am hoping for more free time to devote to this and a couple of other of Ricks courses.

This course if very informative. For those looking to create monsters/creatures for concept art, illustration, or personal projects like comics, I would highly recommend this course. This isn't some "Watch Me Draw" course but a course that offers information to not only get you started but to build off of what you learned. It even has assignments to help you put into practice what you have just learned and I think that is something a lot of courses fail at with providing information but not giving a jump start into how you use the information right away so you can grasp it better and apply it right away into your own art. I recommend watching a video all the way through and take notes and then watch it again and follow along when needed. I really dig how Rich talks about not being afraid to use reference when needed because I feel as a lot of artists look up courses and videos online they see many videos of people who are creating things from the top of their head and artists not realizing that this is something you build up as you build your "visual library" over time and exposure to things out there, and that using reference will help bring more realism to your creatures/monsters. Rich Graysonn is one of those instructors I wish I would have had when I was in middle school or high school trying to get my art to the next level. I recommend all of his courses. I don't think you can walk away and not learn something or improve your art.
