Cross-Cultural Communication And Awareness In The Workplace (Udemy.com)

Use cross cultural communication to connect, embrace cultural diversity, and build stronger intercultural relationships

Created by: Alex Genadinik

Last updated August 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 3,248 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in August 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

This is a short introduction to working with people from other cultures: 2.9 hours, 42 lectures, 12 sections. The syllabus covers high-context versus low-context cultures, plain language, empathy, email tone, active listening and reading body language. Alex Genadinik teaches it, and the audience list points at people on global teams, HR staff and marketers. There are no prerequisites, and the pace suits someone who wants the basics fast rather than a full course in cultural theory.

Reviewers are mostly happy. About 2,860 of 3,248 ratings are four or five stars. They call the teaching informative and say the real-life examples make it relatable. One reviewer who emails and phones people worldwide liked the reminder to think about national holidays or a crisis in the other person's country before pressing a deadline. Another, writing through a translation tool, said the ideas help in same-culture conversations too. Complaints are small. One two-star reviewer found the role-play annoying and slow, and with many sections running five to ten minutes, the material stays at the surface.

The course was last updated in August 2026, so it is current. Its length makes it an easy lunch-week watch rather than a training program. The page promises office hours and quick instructor replies, but the reviews we have don't mention either, so treat those as the instructor's own claims. It works as a primer for new joiners or anyone starting to work with international colleagues. Anyone after case-heavy, research-level depth should look elsewhere.

Best forNew joiners and anyone emailing or calling colleagues abroad who want a quick, practical primer.
Skip it ifYou want deep cultural theory, long case studies, or country-by-country guidance.

Pros

  • Real-life examples that reviewers find relatable and easy to apply at work
  • Covers high vs low-context cultures, email tone, active listening and body language
  • About 2,860 of 3,248 ratings are four or five stars
  • Only 2.9 hours, no prerequisites, and updated in August 2026

Cons

  • Many sections run five to ten minutes, so coverage stays at the surface
  • One reviewer found the role-play annoying and time-consuming
  • Only one quiz and no assignments, so hands-on practice is thin
I talk to people from all over the world both via email and the phone and this has been very helpful.

All Levels fits: there are no prerequisites, and it reads as an intro for new joiners and non-specialists.

Yes it has been very valuable because I've been where the instructor has been of having to come back from mistakes like how the instructor has had to come back so him or her telling me how to handle those mistakes I think are big keys that i will use going forward

By Bertram Kistner on 4/14/2026

The role-play was annoying and time-consuming

By Katherine Litwin on 4/2/2026

I talk to people from all over the world both via email and the phone and this has been very helpful. I especially like the part about considering what's going on in another person's country like if it's a national holiday or if they recently had a natural disaster crisis. Some of the work I do is time sensitive and it's good to keep in mind people have different things happening all over the world that don't adhere to my timeline and to have patience and empathy. Also, it's great for relationship building to know when an important cultural holiday is happening!

By Oliver Kopp on 11/5/2025

This is a great, informative, and very well-presented course. I am from Germany and have been working in intercultural teams for years. This course has provided me with some new insights and findings that will help me in the future. The explanation of high-context and low-context countries and how to interact with them is particularly useful.
