This course was great. Instructor was knowledgeable not just about the ways of development economics but also some of the unintended consequences of development economics. Most books I’ve seen will talk only about the benefits overlooking the consequences some will endure. It is important both as policy makers and humans to understand that as great as the policies are for nations as a whole there will be some who get a raw deal and it’s important for us to not forget or minimize that. I truly appreciated the instructors knowledge and empathy.

Very good overview, and I like your energy and passsion for the topic. Thank you for your course! What I felt was missing was a couple edge cases like Chinas successful approach with its "Special economic zones". As well as glossing over a bit of the benefits of interventionalist policies in the "Asian Tigers" especially South Korea and Japan which led to incredible growth.

Even though it's a self-paced online course, you can feel the energy from Brad and how he leads the flow to keep you engaged. He did an amazing job! If there's one thing I'd expect and would love to learn differently is probably more case studies and near-term reference/benchmarking. Those high-level theories and frameworks are indeed necessary and important to set the scope, however, more practices and how theory implies for sample countries will help bring the theory more grounded.

I took this course out of a desire to gain some knowledge in Economics and Brad has done an excellent job. He knows his stuff and has made the course very practical. It was engaging and easy to follow along. Thanks Brad!

Mr. Cartright takes what could, on the surface, be an intimidating topic and makes it very accessible. In addition to that, he tackles ethical issues from a truly human (not merely abstract) perspective, and also has an engaging style that feels less like being talked at and more like being in a classroom (even if it really is just on a screen). I thoroughly enjoyed this course, and when I go to take more economics courses, Brad Cartwright will be the first name I search.

This is my 3rd course with Brad. I completed Macroeconomics and International Economics before doing this course. Brad is an amazing teacher, keeps the interest level high and summarizes and structures the topics in a very logical sequence. I am a middle aged learner with no background in Economics and I intended to do these courses as a means to understand the world around me better and also be able to read the newspapers and watch the news channels as an informed citizen. These courses helped me to do exactly that and I plan to do more studying in development economics and read more research papers on this topic with this grounding!! Thanks Brad!

this course is opening my mind on how to critically look at why the economic situation of my country is the way it is and giving me idea on how to take advantage of the abundant sources of economic growth and development around me. Now i know the critical factors of economic growth that can lead to economic development and also the challenges and strategies developing economies most address and adopt to succeed in international trade.

Hi i'm from one of developing country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia. I took this course to level up my point of view about development economics. I'm taking economics major in my university. I love the way you taught, it's enjoyable and easy to understand for me as non english native. Thanks !

By Yaya Norazman on 4/10/2023

The course is really comprehensive. Brad, at the end of the course, challenges students to consider the theories learnt and if a certain strategy may be applicable to a country and why/why not. He's also an effective educator, with an easy-going delivery style. Love this course, a 10/10.

Really enjoying the introduction. Great examples, made simple to understand. Have learnt important concepts which challenged me to assess my country and how my country has/is progressing since its independence. The study of development economics is a fascinating field for all citizens in order to appreciate how economics and political decisions are made based on influence of international institutional powers and MNC powers.
