Course Description
In this course, we'll deploy Grafana and Prometheus to EC2 instances using the popular Devops tools Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins. Everything will be built in AWS and will be mostly in the free tier! We will start from the basics of Ansible to deploy Jenkins, then use Jenkins to deploy deployments created in Terraform and Ansible in a completely controlled way that allows us to manage errors and issues we may encounter along the way.
You will not only learn how to create deployments, you'll also learn how to manage those deployments within Github and setup a Gitops pipeline that can be used to deploy all sorts of great projects in the future!
So join the course today and let's get started! You'll find that the skills learned within this course can be applied not only to existing tools taught, but any other tools as well. Since most tools follow the same DevOps methodologies, these skills are transferrable and useful at most organizations you would want to work for! Nearly all major companies in the world use some or all of the tools in this course, so you can know these tools are useful. And most new tools that come out are based on these tools, so even if they're different, you'll find that they're still useful!
I hope you enjoy the course and feel free to reach out to me any time! As you can see by my other courses, I am extremely personally responsive (not just a bunch of assistants) and am always happy to help!

It was a perfect match for me. Very detailed and great handouts to provision the infrastructure via IaC approach. Absolutely recommended for anyone who wants to learn and work within the DevOps workspace

This is a long review but it's because I don't want to just leave a bad rating without context and feedback. This course was probably great when created; however many references and screens displayed are outdated. Its seems that no updates to the course or the GitHub repository have been made in roughly two years. I've also come to believe that this course is not for true beginners with Terraform, etc. However, even if I wasn't a beginner, at several points, due to outdated references I was forced to figure things out on my own often (I usually see that as a good thing - but eventually some of these issues became insurmountable). Often, resource links do not take you to the link shown on the video and at one point (section 35) you are instructed to paste data from a file that is no where to be found ("userdata" file is mentioned but is not in the Resources folder for Section 35 or any other section). As a beginner taking this course, terms, rules and explanations of processes are needed but instead, this is mostly a follow-along course that assumes you already know basic HCL. I truly struggled to keep up and figure out why my screen frequently looked differently. I was eventually able to get everything to run as intended up until Section 36. After troubleshooting extensively I started the course over entirely. I once again got to Section 36, at which point, installing Grafana does not ever initiate (even with -y options) and despite numerous security policy changes, with reapplies and rebuilds I can never connect to the EC2 instance created (even using the AWS Instance Connect). The course falls short of working for a beginner, I believe primarily due to outdated content, links and perhaps even software versions. I'd love to give a better rating but I can't even complete the course.

The Explanation and communication skills are down to earth for everyone to understand. Th pace at which you're teaching is awesome. I mean, everything is just simplified for my understanding. Thank you very much for teaching like this.

Great course !!! Still in chapter 38 , trainer mentioned that they can't destroy a single resource and thus they destroyed the complete infrastructure. Well 'terraform destroy' provides option to destroy individual resources as well, hopefully this will be updated in future.

Fantastic introduction to DevOps for those who have some basic IT / admin exsperience. Derek's a great teacher & you feel he's always gearing the course to help you succeed in your first proper devops job, as well as making it fun. Course ended a little abrubtly. Once we got to the Jenkins stage, I started getting various issues & had to upgrade my cloud9 box to t2.small .

Some areas need to improve like outside of cloud9 it facing some errors while integrating and creating infra with ansible , apart form that it is very good course highly recommended for those who looking for Terraform and Ansible Integration with Jenkins.

I found this course to be very good covering DevOps automation for Terraform, Jenkins, and Ansible. The focus on reusable code vs hardcoded values was perfect. The depth of coverage for Ansible playbooks was spot on for what I was looking to learn. One note, I did need to tweak security groups to add the Cloud9 static IP vs just using my home IP (used both). Overall, great material that I will spend many more hours playing around with and learning from.

Great choice of stack for getting into Dev Ops. Very hands on with clear explanations. Only gripe is that in the beginning when setting security groups, he recommends the student to use their IP address as the access_ip, but he selects it to be public; later in the course (the very second to last lesson), the choice to only allow my ip haunted me in debugging why the Ansible test weren't passing. All in all very great course. A true gem.

Training is very detailed and the step by step approach is "straight to the point". I love the fact that it is project-based and focused. It makes so much sense, thank you so much for the course. I look forward to a course like this in Kubernetes.
