Course Description

This course aims to teach students the fundamentals of digital logic design. Starting from learning the basic concepts of the different base number systems, to basic logic elements and deriving logical expressions to further optimize a circuit diagram, this all encompassing course teaches students everything they need to not only evaluate different combinational logic designs, but also design their own digital circuits given different parameters.
Each section is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of digital logic circuits, and builds upon the previous sections to add more value to what is being learned. The course contains material on:
Base Number systems, Base conversions, Digital Logic gates, Boolean Algebra and Principles, Boolean Expression simplification, Karnaugh Maps (or K-Maps) as well as more advanced concepts of Combinatorial Circuits including:
Encoders, Decoder, Multiplexers, DeMultiplexers, Adders, Sequential Circuits and more!
Quizzes will be administered at the end of each Section to test the student's knowledge of the skills learned for that appropriate section. After completing this course, the student will have a fundamental understanding of digital logic circuits, from the fundamentals of binary representations of digital circuits, to extracting Boolean expressions, using minimization techniques to further optimize circuits, as well as designing their own digital logic circuits.
Who this course is for:

good and well paced

I'm rewriting this after completing the course!
My reason for taking this course it to help build a foundation in digital logic design, which I'm hoping to apply to FPGA design. So I need a better foundation, which has been hard to get from books and online tutorials.
My only suggestion for improvement is that the pace moves a little slow for me in the beginning, but does pick up towards the end. The early videos have a lot of pauses that are distracting. I can tell that you are thinking through things and have to pause to consider things, but for the student, that is distracting.
The course did cover the content I was looking for pretty well. My only suggestion in regards to content would be to think through the explanations of the flip-flop and other circuits to try to present it more clearly. I know, it is nearly impossible to do. I am not complaining, just pointing out where I struggled and what I think can be improved. For me, I had to jump ship on the flip flops and go to a different course to work through them. I'm still not really clear exactly how they work but feel that once it clicks, they are actually pretty simple.
Maybe adding a few hands on examples where you show some circuits working either on a breadboard or modelled in software, or something along that line, might help others like me that struggle a bit with getting our head around how the advanced circuits are working and how and where to incorporate them into our designs.
Overall, I enjoyed the course and how you presented things. I appreciate you putting this together.
For the advanced circuits you discussed, I think I'm going to build a few circuits on a breadboard, maybe build a few circuits using the flip-flop and the 3-bit counter, maybe set it up in a FPGA or in software, etc. to see if I can really absorb how they work. Since these are so fundamental for the rest of digital logic, I really want to understand them well.
Best regards,
Jon

In our college the teacher did not at all teach in this way. I should have taken this course before only but I did not do so. You are helping so many students all over the world, by your wonderful teaching. Teachers are imparting very important concepts to the students. In college's they are in a hurry to finish the syllabus. Thank you for your wonderful teaching.

I took this course to refresh my fundamentals.
I found the course engaging and informative. But there is large scope for improvement:
1. The instructor sticks to only one method of doing things.
[a] for converting a decimal number to any format, we have the L-division method (where we divide the input by the base of the system that you need to convert (by 2 if Decimal to Binary, by 8 if Decimal to Octal and by 16 if decimal to hexadecimal) and finally write down from first quotient to the remainder.
[b] For instance, there are 2 ways to find 2's complement of a number. The instructor only explains 1's complement (input) + 1. it would have been better if he had tried to explain the method of finding 2's complement of streaming input.
2. Big disappointment on the combinational circuits in the Advanced Logic Design and Counters. I would strongly suggest the instructor to explain how each circuit is designed step by step (right from truth table). atleast one complex circuit should have been from truth table -> K-map -> circuits.
3. no touch of State Machines. when sequential circuits are covered, I would expect a glimpse of FSM no matter how basic the course is. one good example of an overlapping / non-overlapping sequence detector is good to go.
Over-all, I felt this course could have been a lot more better. I'm giving a 4 star since I feel the instructor, though sticks to one method, is very informative and patient in explaining things. he doesn't let the student do all the job. he has spent time in explaining every case.
It would be better if you include all these in your current course if possible.
Good Luck on your next course !
