Enterprise OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (Udemy.com)

OAuth2/OpenID Connect with Okta and Google IAM, JWT, Encryption, Signatures, openssl, Java Spring Boot and Angular

Created by: Viraj Shetty

Last updated January 2026

Our take

Based on the ratings of 3,230 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in January 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.

Viraj Shetty's course teaches OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect from the ground up in about 12 hours across 110 lectures. It opens with LDAP and SAML, then works through the grant types in Postman against Google and Okta, covers JWT, enterprise and cloud setups, an Angular project, and native and device apps. A bonus section explains hashing, encryption and signatures. It is aimed at working developers and architects, and more than 26,000 students have enrolled.

Reviewers keep coming back to clarity. One person who already knew about 60% of the material says it filled in details like PKCE and nonce, and others praise the quizzes, assignments and repetition. Criticism is rare but specific. One reviewer finds it very high level, another says there is lots of talk and little written support, and a German-speaking learner reported caption sync and playback errors.

The numbers back the praise: 3,025 of 3,230 ratings are four or five stars. The Java and Angular parts only pay off if you work in those stacks. It was last updated in January 2026 with newer Spring Boot and Angular code. For developers who want to understand why OAuth works the way it does, not just paste config, it is an easy recommendation.

Best forDevelopers who want OAuth flows, PKCE and JWT explained against real Okta and Google servers, with optional Java and Angular.
Skip it ifYou want a deep code-along in a stack other than Java Spring Boot or Angular, or lots of written notes.

Pros

  • Grant types are shown live in Postman against both Google and Okta authorization servers
  • Reviewers say explanations are clear, and one who knew 60% already says it filled gaps like PKCE and nonce
  • Quizzes, assignments and repetition help the ideas stick, according to reviewers
  • Refreshed in January 2026 with Spring Boot 4.0, Java 25 and a current Angular project

Cons

  • A few reviewers find it high level, with little written material to follow along with
  • Hands-on code is limited to Java Spring Boot and Angular, so other stacks get concepts only
  • One German-speaking learner hit caption sync problems and playback errors
Great course, lots of repetition to make it stick. The practical part was great too.
Hector Alfonso, a student

Listed for all levels, but it suits developers who know HTTP and web basics. Java and Angular help for the code lectures.

Course Description

Enroll in this most comprehensive HIGHLY rated course on OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect and take your understanding of Authentication and Authorization to the next level. Regular updates with latest material, quick Instructor replies and excellent reviews.

Recent Updates :

  • Spring Boot examples updated  to version 4.0.x and Java 25.

  • Angular Project Code updated to version 21.1.0 and Node Version 24.13.0

OAuth 2.0 is the industry-standard protocol for authorization. Almost all enterprises today are now using an Authorization Server to protect their REST APIs or have plans to use them in the near future. This course is designed to help Software developers and Application Architects fully understand the concepts behind OAuth/OpenID Connect (OIDC) and become an expert in integrating their code with any OAuth 2.0 Authorization Server.

You will be able to design your applications using Microservices architecture and fully understand how security can be implemented using OAuth2/OIDC. The course will especially focus on enterprise applications deployed in the cloud environments right from the start. There are lectures devoted to Java Spring Boot and Angular 17 implementations for OAuth Client and Resource Server but the course is designed for a broader audience with knowledge of HTTP and Web Development.

WHAT THE LEARNERS ARE SAYING:

5 STARS - Wow, what a journey. I usually lose focus when it comes to following a whole video course, but this one has been engaging, very interesting and extremely informative

5 STARS - Absolutely perfect. The speaking cadence, the samples, the knowledge on the topic and expertise of the author make this course really great. Very, very useful and clear. 20 out of 10

5 STARS - Amazing course. You will be zero to hero in OAuth2 after completing this course. Very simple and clean way of teaching.

5 STARS - Learnt so much, was using authorization & authentication all these years but really didn't think much about the importance of different kinds of auth. Best course on the internet

5 STARS - Truly fantastic course!

5 STARS - A well thought out and well designed content. Teaching style and approach is very good! Very useful!

You will learn about OAuth by understanding it from many different perspectives.

  • User's perspective by demonstrating a real world application using Shutterfly

  • Architect's perspective by explaining the OAuth flows, Cloud deployments and Identity Brokers using diagrams

  • Developer's perspective by using Postman to create and send messages to Okta and Google Authorization Servers

  • Java Developer's perspective by writing our own Shutterfly application using a Java and Spring Boot 3.0 Application

  • Angular Developer's perspective by writing our own Shutterfly application using Angular Front End

  • Desktop Developer's  perspective by understanding how to protect such applications using OpenID Connect

  • Mobile Developer's perspective by understanding how to protect Mobile applications using OpenID Connect

  • IoT (Internet Of Things) Developer's perspective by understanding how to protect IoT applications using OpenID Connect

  • Tester's perspective by understanding how to test OAuth HTTP messages using Chrome and Postman

  • Understand about Cryptographic Hashing, Encryption and Digital Signatures using openssl commands

  • Understand about Identity And Access Management features of Okta

  • Understand about JWT Tokens

  • Understand Scope based Authorization versus Role Based Access Control (RBAC)

You will learn about the various OAuth2 Grant Types, Access tokens, JWT tokens, Scopes and PKCE Extension. We will use the Google Authorization Server for explaining Social applications, Okta Authorization Server to explain Enterprise applications and in the process also understand subtle differences between Authorization Servers.

One of the big goals of this course is to understand how OAuth/OIDC  is used in an Enterprise and Cloud today. It's used along with SAML and LDAP together and so it's the goal of this course to explain these integrations end to end. For that reason, this course deliberately attempts to examine LDAP,  SAML and Single Sign-on (SSO) before exploring OAuth2. You will learn about Cloud deployments, Multi-cloud deployments as well as Identity Brokers.

You will be able to get a 360 degree view of OAuth and OpenID Connect by exploring all possible Application integration points for different Architectures.

REMEMBER… I'm so confident that you'll love this course that we're offering a FULL money-back guarantee for 30 days! So it's a complete no-brainer, sign up today with ZERO risk and EVERYTHING to gain.

I was familiar with almost 60% of the course content. But some important details was missing and the course fills them up. Paricurlar the view of whole of auths architectures, reason for some details like PKCE, nonce etc... Also the terminology helps me go over documentation in other places. Very well structured course and delivered with pure clarity - no noise. It saves me quite a time. Thank you!

Great course, lots of repetition to make it stick. The practical part was great too. Difficult to get it if you haven't one it your self. I may not use oauth at work, but it's good to know what others are doing. Overall it was a great investment in every way.

Previously, I was unfamiliar with many authentication-related terms and was actively searching for answers. However, this course serves as a comprehensive solution for authentication-related queries. Identity providers like Okta and Google were covered in great depth, with extensive examples and simplified explanations. The most engaging aspect of this course was the quizzes and assignments, which made it interactive and helped reinforce my learning within each section. Thank you very much!

One of the best course I found on oAuth/OIDC. Tutor builds on the knowledge in such a subtle way that it does not feel like a burden but registers in your brain very deep inside. Very clear in concepts and explained all the general questions very well without leaving any gap in the learning. Highly recommended

Invaluable course for understanding OAuth in the enterprise plus bonus lectures really connect the dots for some of those terms we have been hearing all throughout IT. With patience and dedication you can prepare for an architect role. Thank you sir.

By Oleg Duvanayev on 11/10/2023

many thanks for the course. It is in most cases very clear for understanding. The key advantage imho is Viraj does provide important commands and calls (postman). I will definitively recommend this course for building the basics around the OAuth2 & OpenID Connect.

By Shyamala Marathe on 5/12/2023

Amazing material content. Do not need to see for all types of authentication in different places. All enterprise cases are considered here! Lot of study behind these videos and a match to what audience is looking for. Expect more such courses in various areas!!.

By Shaun Russell on 9/6/2022

I agree with many other students that have left comments, and this is a very good course for a number of reasons. The first is the explanations are very clear, and done at a pace where it is easy to listen. Very well done for your precise and clear explanations. The second are the demonstrations in calling APIs to get tokens with more than one identity provider (Google and Okta). The difference in the types are explained really well. Also, the templates you provide to capture the call detail and practice the calls is a super bonus. The third is reading through the Q&A section where there is a wealth of information that you don't realise you need until you see others have already thought of the question for you! Give it a go - there is lots hidden in here. The fourth, which is a really great bonus, is we are shown that we can build the API calls framework and interact with identity providers with tools like Postman and so on. We can wrap the calls later with nice websites or whatever, but the actual backbone can be built out as part of a PoC against any of the identity providers we may use - go register an app and try it :) Identity is hard, and the concepts are tricky but if you go through this course once, and then do it again but more slowly and actually do the exercises, the penny should drop as it did with me second time round. On a final note, thank you Viraj for a genuinely great course.

By Prasad Nadig on 2/18/2022

The time spent on this course is well spent. I liked the fact that it touched on practical aspects of integrating with oAuth across all device type possibilities, & used a social auth server & a commercial auth server to call out differences to drive home the conceptual underpinning. Great compilation. I would suggest though that the introduction section to auth server & grant types, and subsequent section on google/okta using postman be merged & condensed to reduce overall time on the course plus make things more contextual for the learner.
