I am a character design, film director, animator, and illustrator. I have worked in the animation industry for over 15 years, bringing characters to life.
I have worked with clients such as McDonald's and Ericsson to create top-notch 3D animated characters for their commercials.
I´ve had the privilege to direct actors such as Sir Roger Moore and Peter Stormare among all, as voice actors for animated movies. I´ve worked with renowned illustrators and screenwriters such as Iain McCaig, the legendary designer from Star Wars, to breathe life into stories and characters.
The TV-show I´ve recently written and directed, called Space Yoghurt, is having a worldwide success and has been featured twice in the Animation Magazine.
I´ve published several children´s books.
I started my life as an artist at the age of 13 when I attended art school. The first year we had to draw 50 drawings a day, after school. It seemed a lot, but now I know it was what it took to be able to draw well. I know what it takes to become an artist, but also I know the struggle of the process.

The course started out so well but then everything became so repeated and nothing new was taught and the amount of important information was so limited compared to the huge amount of lectures

Maria is a great companion for the journey of learning how to draw. I am really enjoying the course. As a suggestion, I would ask for a chapter on learning how to draw interactions between characters

I really enjoyed this course. Lessons were reasonably long and the teacher's way of teaching was good. Having now completed this course I feel strengthened in my ability to draw cartoon characters and am now ready to move on and develop my skills in this area.

It was an easy, informative lesson and was better than what I expected. I learned a lot from it and it was one of the best art lessons I've ever had.

Each exercise builds on the last, applying the principles in a different way. Even my first rough tries impress my friends - "Did YOU draw that?". I am motivated and know I will continue enjoying this course.

This is the missing link to most character design courses! This course ties in figure drawing from different characters that helps you develop character consistency. If I could give a 10 star review I would.

Just finished the course by Maria! I am super exited about the things I've learned and created during this course. I'm looking forward for more from this artist.

I found this course to be a lot of fun, and technically helpful. A year ago I would not have said I was interested in drawing cartoon characters, but my interests have shifted since then, and I believe this course will encourage me to continue in this vein. Maria's consistency in approach to design, construction, and refinement help the techniques to sink in. One thing that helped me understand Maria's approach to figure drawing for characters was taking another Udemy course with Siobhan Twomey on figure/gesture drawing of humans There I learned about line of action, and it was very helpful to have had that instruction prior to this course. Maria shows line of action clearly here, but I would recommend to newbies that they take a gesture drawing course that focuses on line of action. It is helpful to have Maria talk through her approach (and design philosophy) while she draws, a skill most artists have a hard time doing in real time. (There is nothing wrong with adding voice-over later, by the way.) My attitude toward learning a skill is that if I find an instructor with an approach I like and can use, I stick with that method. Once I've internalized that method, then I can branch out. Maria's method is worth sticking with in cartoon drawing development.

I really appreciate Maria’s teaching. She doesn’t just expect you to copy her and presto you’re a cartoon artist. Instead Maria throughly explains the process and the “whys”. I understand what is going on and it helps me be able to create on my own rather than always needing some sort cheat. I have read many books and watched many other artists that were only a waste of time for me. Maria makes things click together! Thank you Maria, I am so grateful that you took the time to share your knowledge.

I greatly appreciate the follow along approach and breakdown of drawing the cartoon figure. I’m always hesitant drawing any kind of dynamic pose, this class is helping me get over those hurdles with engaging, concise, and fun lessons.
