Course Description

In this course you will learn about Fusion 360 and how to design complex mechanical assemblies.

After the quick introduction to Fusion 360, section 1 explains step by step how to design slide-n-pop mechanism. The mechanism is used to hide an iPad Pro underneath the surface of a desk or a wall. When the arm rotates, the iPad pops up and the cover slides back. Behind this interesting motion are many parts that are designed to work together to carry out this motion properly. Through the lessons a great focus in given to explain the concept behind each part's design and why it's made the way it is. Throughout the course, you will learn about Fusion 360 power when it comes to assembly modeling. You will gain experience with top-down design using Fusion 360. Further, you will become very comfortable using Fusion 360 for any kind of design work later. This course is comprehensive and cuts through all the important modules in Fusion 360. By the end of the course, you will learn all the basics that you need to approach any mechanical design project in Fusion 360.

Section 1 starts from the ground up; modelling the frame and stationary gear, and moving up step by step to model the cover. You will watch how the mechanism is built step by step while observing the thinking methodology behind the structure of the model. All the modelling done is kept realistic and true to nature by using fasteners, proper sketches, chamfers and well selected materials. You will be getting a front seat to an inside look at how the professional do it.

If you're not familiar with Fusion 360, Section 3 will give you a brief introduction to Fusion. I'll explain the reasons that makes Fusion very special among other CAD softwares. This section includes an introduction to the UI, Data management concepts in Fusion and the special model structure. After that Rule#1 will be introduced and the methodology of the modelling will explained.

The course narration is a little fast and the required knowledge of Fusion 360 is quite high. In general I found the course helpful.

I personally am enjoying the course but the speed it is delivered can slow down a bit especially during joints and joint locations. This is intense and I have gone over it many many times to catch the right procedure and I understand that it is quite intricate. It is a great challenge and I will do others with the same instructor. Thanks Tony.

This tutorial is good for someone who has a little bit of experience with fusion, it moves quickly and teaches powerful techniques without drilling down too deep into detail.

Let's be clear: it's a great course, I liked it very much, but I have to tell what I don't really liked so much... First of all, "Fusion 360 basics" are at end of the course.... So almost at half course I noticed I was missing something on "joints" mechanism... Fortunately, I already did a previous basics course on other topics, so I already knew the Fusion environment and primitives/components usage... The author should simply change the welcome video and warn students to focus to the basics at first, then begin with the course. Second: in lesson where you design the ipad cover close to sliders the explaination it's really confusing... I redo the lessons 7-8 times without even get close to the results of the author... so I attempted to make it by myself with some "constraints" I thought were good, hoping to have done a good job... Unfortunately instead this lead me to very different positions of the ipad assembly and I found it at the very last lesson of the course, where you set limitations to the movements! I have to set to 135° instead of 85° to get close to desired results and the cover lid does not even take place of the ipad completely! Not talking about hte ipad model going very far back to the frame... :-D Recover such problem it's very difficult now as I should redo/restart from the connecting arm making it "shorter"; I don't think I will go for. I think that if length constraints were set more efficently in this section the reader could benefit of better results... Third problem: the gear's "teeth" after initial and good positioning it starts overlapping each other! This is not only a problem in my model, It's clearly visibile in many lessons when the author goes to rotate the main gear you can notice they are perfectly over each other... Just pay attention to details! Lastly: probably the main cause of my mistakes... to all teachers in udemy: PLEASE TALK SLOWLY AND CLEAR: well pronounce commands you are going to apply! Very often one has to go back and listen 3-4 times trying to figure out which is the command to invoke and this it's irritating and frustrating! Make pauses between decisions so one can materialize in mind what and how things has to be done. One of the great things udemy offers to us it's "visual learning"... so why the hell you are going to use only shortcuts? I understand that for a professionist it could be really boring but.... please go for icons as you are teaching presumibly to a novice! We have to learn! We will learn using shortcuts with time and experience! Anyway even with such difficulties I'm really enjoying Fusion 360 so I definitely reccomend to grab this course after you have completed one or two on the program's basics.

Great Course, never thought i could learn Fusion 360 easily, what i like about the instructor his easy and simple explanation, just to the point.

It's a very good introduction to fusion 360 for those with no knowledge of it whatsoever. Moreover, experienced user can still benefit from the design and various tricks shared by Mahmoud. Very detailed step by step description. Furthermore, Mahmoud tries his best to explain any theoretical concept involved in the design.

The first few lectures have been great. I work with Fusion 360 and enjoyed learning shortcuts and better design processes. edit- as I'm making more progress - the content gets me up to speed with my other projects nicely!

nice and very useful course. a good introductory to Fusion 360, new CAD modeling methods, and the options available over the traditional CAD systems. very good presentation. and the mechanism is awesome.

Good amount of information in a short amount of time. Good speech pace well done video except for the out of focus white board with a hand writing. That was a huge distraction from learning to a point of why did he paint his fingernails red? I enjoyed that this did not seem scripted and that he seems to enjoy teaching.

Talking and clicking a little bit to fast and the resolution could be better. It is good that you explain why you do stuff, eg. toleranse and so forth.
