Truly amazing course, i had a huge information gap when i was learning by myself, specially with effects like Eq, compression etc.. i never know what they did or when to use them. this course Was exactly what i needed to elevate my skills. and the quality is what i expected from gamedev.tv i really recommend their other courses too! Thank you for creating this, it exceeded my expectations!

An excellent course that not only teaches you how to make sound effects, but it tells the historical context and early versions of a lot of the tools and effects used in the course. Furthermore, the instructor is always explaining each step and each of his decisions throughout the projects and tools, in addition to teaching the art of making sound effects (both for recording and mixing). It was much more than i expected.

I'm enjoying the course overall! I'm not through yet, but am happy to share thoughts now. Pros: - It's a great intro to Audacity and Reaper, quick SFX sourcing and sound file manipulation. - It's wonderful to have the commonly used settings (EQ, noise reduction, compression etc) de-mystified a bit. - Really enjoying syncing sound to video - really fun to see everything start to come together like that. -Instructor is pleasant and easy to understand for me. -All files used are provided so you don't have to source or record your own sounds if you're not in a position to do so. Cons: - I feel like the parts I was worried about the most, the more subjective parts as to "what sounds good" is HARD TO TEACH, and I'm never really sure if what I'm making sounds ok. I'm not sure what the solve is there. - I'm wondering if starting with fewer layers for each individual sound may have made it easier to follow along and understand what goes where and how to rough it out a bit, and to actually *hear* the components and how adding another nearly identical layer changes it, or how treating two identical layers with different EQ etc. can help shape the sound even more. - Instructor encourages us to use our own foley, but doing so sometimes makes it difficult to follow along on all the work examples, since your sounds may be quite different and require different work.

One of the best courses I've taken on sound design. Shows you how to do it from start to finish. The foley was fun, as was the sound layering and I loved that chapters showing you how to implement them in the game engines. Wonderful, clear, concise! Ready to get some projects done!

Mitchell Theriault is such a beast, Very knowledgeable, keeps the lectures interesting and I absolutely love the fact he gives us the opportunity to experiment ourselves to gain the fundamentals. Don't know if there are any more courses he teaches but would absolutely Continue to learn underneath him, given the opportunity

It is a great course for beginners but also for people with intermediate knowledge, you can always learn something new, different perspectives, techniques and workflow. I would like to have the projects of the game engines to work with them too, but overall the course is a nice source to grow in sound design.

One of the best courses I’ve ever taken on Udemy. I was having a really hard time finding a course that explains how things like effects, sound, and editing actually work. Not only just showing how to do it, but actually explaining what’s being done. Thanks a lot! This was the most valuable course for my future career.

By Alexandre Ancel on 4/3/2025

Truly an awesome course, where all the basics of the mains effects are explained, and put to really good use with practical examples. I really liked the whole processes being showed, from the recordings to the modifications and finally the mixing and export. Definitely worth it !

Short and concise intro to the world of sound effects. I have been making music with midi in fl studio for awhile and always felt uncomfortable diving into recording or effects but after this course I find it easy to navigate the entire sound design process. It has been difficult finding material on sound design so I enjoyed this course a lot. Would like to see more advance material on sound design soon.

By William Wallace on 8/1/2024

This was pretty much exactly what I was looking for. My only problem was that I already had experience using a DAW for music composition, so I would get bored while he explained some basic concepts. But I wouldn't necessarily want that to change since this is a course targeted towards beginners, so that way if you don't have experience, you will get all the information you need to create the sound effects he shows you in the course. Overall, if you want a solid foundation in SFX design, I highly recommend this course.
