Instructor Details

Ben Tristem

Hi, I'm Ben. I have a degree in computing from Imperial College London, and a physics diploma from the Open University.
I started working for myself at the age of 15, and never looked back. I explored careers as varied as being a commercial pilot, stunt-man, rock climbing instructor, and more. None of these provided a continued challenge, and stable income in the same way technology does.
After building and selling a home computer support business, I became an angel investor and business mentor here in Cambridge UK. I fell in love with teaching game development through one of my investments, and I now spend all of my time sharing my passion with people like you.
I can't wait to help you experience the fulfilment, and financial freedom, that having a deep understanding of technology brings.
So why not start learning to make games with me and my team now?
See you soon!
Ben

The course is thorough, engaging, and the Instructor is enthusiastic. I find the learning material very useful, especially the lectures about normal maps and subsurface color. The section about textures is long and thorough, and everyone who completes this course will use nodes like a pro. I highly recommend this course not only for game developers and game designers but also for everyone involved in 3D art design beyond video games.

Another quality course from GameDev.tv. This one is a great compliment to their Unity 3D course which I've already taken. I'm picking up a solid fundamental understanding of the many tools available in Blender and I know that by the end of this, I'll have all the knowledge I need to move on to more advanced Blender courses. Cheers Michael!

So far the instruction is very good. The information is very in-depth, and everything is quite easy to follow along, even as I'm working in Blender 2.9 while the videos are made in 2.8.

Still in progress:
Overall, this course is great! It teaches you a diverse set of skills and those with the creativity and drive to expand on them can use the videos as a reference quite easily. It is also exceptional for beginners as it does not dive into anything too complex to be hard to follow or not doable. The challenges in many of the sections are great for people to try their hand at applying the skills as well.
On the other hand, I agree with some of the others about some topics being too long (but really, that's not a huge deal). My other big gripe at the moment (and why I did 4.5 stars) is because there are some things which you see (a suddenly way more detailed archway or a really cool looking beach ball) that you are like "cool, when will I learn how to do that!", but then never get to see how it's made. It would be nice to have some extra sections where you dive into some of those more complex pieces, even if you just stick them at the end or something.
