I really really liked this course (and I do a lot of courses, I do it while I work out) the one thing that I found though, was that the speech was a bit slow and that made me loose attention a bit. But putting the playback speed at x1.5 fixed that for me :) Only thing I would wish, was that there was a complete page of all of the book recommendations made in the different sessions.

This course does EXACTLY what it says, and that is, to give beginners a firm understanding of Game Design essentials. Lectures are easy to understand, and teacher Gabriel (who actually works in the gaming industry and has produced games, unlike most other Game Design ''teachers'' & course providers on Udemy) supplies you with a whole list of fascinating articles, videos, and books to read/watch on your own time for further Game Design understanding/knowledge. I 100% recommend this course to any beginners wanting to jump into Game Design. No past experience or knowledge needed. I myself had none.

Very amazing. This is very helpful & understanding. As someone who loves video games & his dream is to become a video game designer, can I just say that this has been helpful & I've been taking down notes. I still have trouble of understanding certain things but in the end I'll understand & acknowledge them in no time. I am also writing down my own stories on video games as well & creating characters.

The course is amazing, thanks to the author, I want to thank for all the materials, I really need them. I would like to ask to make more courses, especially on mathematics and economics in games (especially in free to play) This is a whole science, and I don't know where to start :с Thank you very much, very informative, I noticed many of my mistakes in communicating with the team

I've always been curious about the intricate relationship between game design and human psychology and this course really delves deep into this. Further more, I feel much more confidant of what it takes to design an effective player experience using analytical skills, brainstorming techniques, reflection reflection and documentation to guide and organize my thought.

This course gives great overview of Game Design and what it can mean. Additionally (though i'm not sure if the way they are presented is the best possible way) the assignments provide a very good opportunity to practice what we as students are taught. The reason my rating is what it is, is because the presentation is lacking. Other reviewers have hinted at this as well, and i agree with them. So in summary: very good course for getting into game design but the presentation can be improved upon.

I haven't finished the whole course yet, so I may change the rating later. The content is very informative, important and comprehensive for a beginner. The delivery, though, is really poor. Gabriel is obviously reading from a script, which is not bad, but it lacks energy, passion. His monotone, unrehearsed reading is not engaging at all. I have to stop every 10 minutes or so and change activity or I will simply zone out and lose all interest in the content. I strongly recommend that Gabriel practice reading his texts many times before recording, and deliver them almost by memory, without relying so heavily in the text he has in front of him (we can see his eyes moving from line to line). That will also help him feel more sure about the pronunciation and enunciation of words in English. I really want to like this course, desperately, but the delivery is weak. It's like playing a fast-paced action game with unskippable 12-minute long cutscenes every 4 minutes of playtime.

I am a newcomer in game world and this course really covers lots of things that I need to know before making a game and understand it from the developer perspective. Gabriel did a really good job as a teacher, he explains in a bite size information that easy to understand, he also gives a lot of outside resources (video links, books recommendations, notion pages guidance he made by himself, etc.) that gives deeper understanding & practical examples about the topic he's talking about. Amazing course, great mentor, full of important information that I found really confusing to find in Youtube, 10/10 would recommend it.

Understanding Players and System Thinking sections are clearly what I was looking for, but I expected these sections to be more in-depth materials. If you don't already know GDC or some game design analysis Youtube channel, this is a really good "Where to start" course. Also, the trainer responds quite quickly on Discord and takes the time to answer your questions with great accuracy and enrichment

Excellent course, highly recommended for people starting as game designers. Probably the best course on this topic currently available on Udemy. Perhaps what I missed most was a deeper approach on some of the topics and better practical insights on the concepts explained. For example, I would have found very useful if the course had deconstructed a popular game (or game level) over the different lessons and produced practical documentation showcasing each new concept learnt (Eg: process to design that game/level, GDD documentation, top systems found in the game/level, etc). That is something left to the student but certainly a detailed case study would help making this course even better.
