Course Description
Welcome to Git for Everybody / Git Essentials
This is the updated 2020 version for the modern web developer and this course supports Windows, Mac and Linux users.
In this course you learn everything you need to know about working with Git and GitHub.
By the end of this course you will have the knowledge and confidence you need to:
Apply for a job
Work in a team
Work on open source projects
Git is the secret tool that almost every developer uses but nobody talks about. It's such a commonplace tool that it's rarely mentioned on job postings because it's assumed that, no matter what your skill level is, that you KNOW how to use Git and GitHub.
I've worked with several teams and companies over the years and everything you'll learn in this course is what I tend to use almost every day and certainly every week.
To learn how to use Git and GitHub does not take 10, 8 or even 6 hours. The truth is Git is a complicated program, but using Git is easy!
There are a number of commands you'll use every day, and a few more commands you'll see once or twice a week. Beyond that, you would be learning advanced Git that you'll never use, ever! Don't get stuck learning tools and commands that you'll never use. By taking this course, you are going to learn all the important aspects of Git and GitHub, and you won't be wasting 6+ hours learning things you'll never use.
This course is designed to teach you Git the way the it's used everyday by a developer who uses it every day.
Here's the rough outline of everything you'll learn in this course:
How to use Git on the command line (pro tip: it's more important to learn Git from the command line first than it is to learn how to use a visual tool. Servers don't have visual programs)
Installing Git on Windows, Mac and Linux
How to configure Git on your computer, and add your SSH key
Creating, cloning and adding files to a GitHub repository
Managing files, commits and branches
How to merge branches into other branches
How to view old files from an older time
Viewing file differences and how to ignore certain file types
Forking repos (repositories)
How to work on GitHub by:
Creating custom branches and tags
Opening and managing GitHub issues
Opening and managing pull requests
How to undo a little work, and a lot of work
How to rebase
How to work through merge and rebase conflicts
And much much more!
Plus we'll work through lots of real life examples together and get you'll get hands on experience with all of this by creating your own repositories, forking my repo, and even safely opening a pull request on my work for some seriously hands on experience (because Git is better learned by doing).
As an added bonus, you'll also learn GitHub fundamentals — and everything you learn about Git and GitHub is completely transferable to GitLab and Bit Bucket!
How to tell if this course is for you:
Have you never used Git or GitHub?
Have you ever wondered how Git works?
Have you ever gotten stuck using Git?
Have you ever needed to ask for help when using Git?
Have you ever ran into a tricky Git conflict?
Have you ever wondered how to efficiently use GitHub?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, this course is 100% for you.

It's a great course to start with, especially for folks who are new to Git. The favorite part is the style of the tutor using command lines to illustrates git work flow. If you want to get started., I would say its a good choice.

This is really more than I've expected, and it was fun going through this course as well. Not only everything you _really_ need to know about Git to start working with GitHub and not make a complete fool of yourself is here, but also there's this addition of a walk-through the GitHub Pages which I was wondering about and a special cherry on the top gratis for deepening the understanding of Git and broadening the knowledge even further. Awesome course, totally worth it.

This course is definitely a 5 star. Kalob covers everything you would need to be successful using git, and importantly as a developer on a team. Sure there is going to be a subset of the more obsure stuff and that's what books, reference material and StackO is for :) The teaching style is wonderful, actual hands on helpful to replicate. The little bonus GitHub.io web publishing was useful too. Very happy with this course!

As a Junior, after taking the course I feel much more comfortable to use git daily. Will definitely use the course for a reference, especially for advanced features. Also a very useful bonus section about hosting my portfolio on GitHub.

There is no sufficient content on the model where master exists and fork (created from master and another fork created from another fork) exists and Fork has many branches. Where local repo has a upstream attached to master OR another fork.

good learning for beginners, i like this course as it have example maybe a little outdated but the git bash gives the current code to use, i recommend this for beginner to have knowledge with git and github but you also need to apply what you learn here to actual work, thanks for the great learning experience

Kalob is excellent at explaining all of the aspects of Git on the Command Line and GitHub. I've learned a lot already and I feel more confident using it already. Something that seemed so alien to me now feels totally doable! I'm only half way through so can't wait to continue and finish the course! Definitely recommend!

I really enjoy this course. The instructor makes it easy to learn and he answers questions very quickly. This is one of the best course that I have ever purchased on Udemy. I highly recommend this course to people who are interesting in learning git.

I appreciated that my questions were promplty and thoroughly answered by the instructor. The pace of the lectures is very fast, so I had to pause the video after each command to keep track with what was going on. That's an aspect that could be improved. All in all, I feel confident that I know how to use git and Github, so four stars for Kaleb Taulien and his Git Essentials course.

This course is excellent. Before I took it, I realize now that I didn't really understand the relationship of the local and origin repositories and how to keep them in sync. Now I do because this course cleared all that up. He goes into all the different Git actions a senior developer on a team would be expected to know using specific examples that you can do yourself to consolidate your learning as you follow along.
