Course Description

Ever dreamed of creating your own epic 3D role-playing game? Now’s your chance!

Join us as we guide you through building a large-scale RPG in the Godot engine. You’ll learn to bring your ideas to life, levelling up your dev skills in the process.

We’ll start with the essentials and tackle the fun stuff: crafting attacks, abilities, and a levelling system to make your player character truly shine. By the end, you’ll have a fully playable RPG, complete with gear, enemies, and jaw-dropping environments.

Building a game this size sounds intimidating, right? No worries! We’ll guide you step-by-step to create a fully-fledged RPG in Godot, from scratch. You’ll also learn the secret sauce behind pro-level Godot skills.

Ever wondered how to make your character stronger across levels? We’ll teach you how to use resources to manage player stats and create that satisfying "level-up" feeling players crave. Power up your skills and your hero at the same time!

RPGs are all about killer gear. You’ll master inventory systems, item equipping, and weapon damage. Plus, you’ll make sure players can see their hero evolve with each shiny new sword or piece of armour they equip.

Animations bringing the game to life? Check! We’ll dive into animation trees and state machines, so your characters don’t just move—they flow. Hook animations into gameplay to make every attack and action feel impactful.

From bone attachments to global illumination, we’ve got your back with advanced techniques that will make your RPG not just playable but downright gorgeous. Make those levels pop with lighting that wows even the pickiest players.

Stuck on complex interfaces? We’ll teach you how to create dynamic UIs that update with player actions—whether it’s equipping items or tracking stats. Build interfaces players love to use.

This course is perfect for intermediate Godot devs or anyone who’s taken our Complete Godot 3D course. If you know the editor and can set up scenes, this is your chance to level up.

Stuck? Never fear. You’ll have access to a supportive community and a crack team of teaching assistants. Whether you’re debugging or dreaming up your next feature, you won’t be on this journey alone.

The Godot engine is blowing up (not literally!), and now’s your chance to jump on in. Grab your keyboard, your imagination, and maybe a cup of tea—it’s time to get creating. See you in the course!

Beyond what I expected! This course fullfils the intermidiate promise, the pace is just the best I have seen thus far in any course, the gold standard of teaching. All explained but MOST importantly... WHY things are done the way they are done. Specially before they are done, this is so important since it allows you to understand the logic and not just copy some random code. All and all this is the S-tier of godot learning.

It’s been fun and I learned a few things. Room for improvements and refinements, but that could be said about everything that involves writing code. I’d still say all five stars were appropriately earned. Kudos! In hindsight, the one topic I wish had been included that wasn’t would have been a third attack style — something like a bow or other ranged weapon. That would really open up some big possibilities and complement the existing actions. Maybe that and smarter enemies could be added in “Part II”

I was fairly impressed with the course at the start. It was cool to see how we structured the player stats and setting up the communication between the different components. Towards the end/50% of the course it felt like things started to crumble a bit. I was expecting that we had our item data stored in a more generic way instead of relying on everything being stored in the UI. Like having resource objects for the different items, which can be stored in another inventory component on the player, which the UI can then read from to show the information needed. I was also expecting the bit on persistent data to cover save states and things like this. So the player state could be saved across sessions. Instead we once again just create some UI nodes and store everything there and only between level changes.

This guy is amazing. He does just enough to explain what you're doing and how to do it. Not so much the why, usually, but that's ok. I'm picking up what he's putting down. Also, just enough challenges to keep me being active while not making them too difficult. Honestly, my only problem with the challenges is that I tend to overthink them and/or try to do too much, instead of just what he's asking for. Either way, top marks for this guy!

Solid course, soetimes a bit more explanation on why things are done this way would have helped me. I did one course for Godot 2D with C# before and have Experience in Coding, so I could follow without any problem, except for the NavigationRegion3D wich does not stay at the ground no matter what I tried (thats one place where additional explanation would have helped), causing the enemies to walk half a meter above the ground.

Very good course. It covers a lot of topics and leaves with a lot of tools to take it further. It is very well explained even with some of the subjects being fairly complex. It may be worth noting that I did have some performance issues on my laptop and had to go down to compatibility mode and skip some of the graphics/lighting sections but that is not the fault of the course, but maybe something to bear in mind if you are on an older computer.

I understand the frustration some users have expressed with this being labeled intermediate despite the explanations for literally every single thing that is being done. That said, I do appreciate this approach. Even though I've done a few Godot project tutorials in the past, I tend to have a difficult time following along with lectures/instructions (adhd lol) especially when I'm bouncing between screens and trying to listen and type. This has been one of the better courses for me in terms of being able to keep up and understand the what and why of everything. Looking forward to the rest of the course.

I took Bram's Complete Godot 3D course and found it to be one of the best developer courses I have ever taken. So, I was excited to continue with this course and was not disappointed. If you are new to game dev, I would recommend taking the Complete Godot 3D course before taking this one. There is quite a bit in this course that is review from the other course, but it reinforces the basics through repetition and practical exercises. This course stands on its own, though, in particular if you already have some familiarity with game development. I would not recommend this course if you absolutely do not know how to code. But, the instructor does a good job of not assuming you know much. He thoroughly explains just about everything and repeats his explanations frequently to reinforce the information. I have been programming for decades, so it is hard for me to view the course with fresh eyes, in that way, but I would think that one would struggle a bit if they had no familiarity with coding, whatsoever. I am planning on developing a medium-complexity commercial game, this year, and I believe I have the building blocks to do so, having taken these two courses. I will need to refer to documentation, frequently, but at least I know what to lookup, which is half the challenge.

I find the ratings barely do justice to this course, so I might just give a 5-star rating and say something about the teaching. This is my second course of Bramwell Williams, and frankly speaking, I enjoy it quite a lot after finishing 77% of the course. I just started to learn Godot 3 months ago and had no previous coding experience. I had several other Godot courses on Udemy and to be honest, none of the tutors did a better job in explaining the code and concepts than he did. His detailed explanation might sound repetitive and spoon-feeding to coding guru who move from Unity and looking for advanced technique, but is perfect for beginners like me who is still processing through the nut and bolt of GDScript and object-oriented coding style. His challenge in each lecture helps me recap on the concept I'm scared of, and I genuinely feel huge progress in learning this course. Let me put it this way, if Bramwell Williams starts a third course on Godot 3D game, I will buy whatever course he teaches, and this shows how much I appreciate for his teaching style.

By Phil Rogers on 1/2/2025

The pace of this course is perfect for me. I have some prior experience with Godot and the course is aimed at people such as myself, so everything is straight to the point and a lot is achieved very quickly. Bram speaks very clearly so he is easy to understand. I already have a game idea in mind, and this course looks as if it is going to help me achieve the fundamentals of a 3D RPG very quickly.
