Course Description
R-Tutorials shows how to create convincing graphs in R
Do you want to create insightful graphs?
Do you want to show your data crystal clear?
Do you want your data to be understood by everyone?
Do you want a versatile graphics toolbox?
Do you want powerful formatting skills?
If you anwered YES to some of these questions - this course is for you!
Data is useless if you do not have the right tools to build informative graphs. Plots need to be understood easily while being accurate at the same time. R-Tutorials gladly enlarges your data toolbox so that you can surmount in your career.
R offers a variety of plotting devices, some of them (like ggplot2) are whole systems which need to be learned like a new language. R-Tutorials shows how to learn those languages.
In this course you will learn about the most important plotting packages ggplot2, lattice and plotrix. According to the teaching principles of R Tutorials every section is enforced by exercises for a better learning experience. You can download the code pdf of every section to try the presented code on your own.
The course starts with the base parameters which are needed to format and manipulate any basic graphs in R.
After that you will learn about the most common types of graphs in R base and you will see some very useful graphical extensions of the plotrix package.
Ggplot2 is a very famous graphs package and is viewed as the most powerful graphics device R has to offer. You will get an in depth tutorial on that package.
At last you can see how Lattice offers some more very useful functions.
With that knowledge you will have an extremely powerful toolbox to excel in your career and in your studies.

It is outdated, some organization could help (where to find what, code on the screen does not match successful implementation). I do not find answers on how to solve issues if I follow the screen (found in other source).

Excellent introduction to data visualization with R. The course was well structured, the code was clearly explained and the exercises were a good test of course content.

It hasn't been what I expected thus far, though I mostly interested in the ggplot2 section. However, there was no intro - we just jumped into R Studio: If I were entirely new to the topic -- this would have been extremely confusing. I should have read the course description a little better though it hasn't been hard to follow-- so far this is a recitation of the docs available in help. At halfway point, my opinion hasn't changed -- this is essentially a verbal recitation of the help docs available. In fact, there was no introduction at all -- and for ggplots sections some intro would make sense, as well as a least some indication that you need to install the plotting package.

I learned many basic options in R regarding plotting. The teacher was very knowledgeable and so I learned many new options to plot. It fitted mostly well with the knowledge I already had of R. Thank you for the course.

I enjoy the detailed lessons about graphs in base R and the default parameters. This is incredibly useful. Most instructors just want to go immediately to ggplot but an understanding of base R functionality is very valuable. The parts I found most relevant to my work were base r graphing/parameters and ggplot. Thanks Martin!

Very good course. Anecdotes on how R works are very helpful. This guy consistently produces tutorials that are directly applicable to my work. It would be really great if he produced a series on the R language itself (no packages). I still can't find any books or tutorials that really get into R from the 'theory of R' perspective.

Thanks for this course and I'm happy to share my personal experience! Valuable introduction to Base R graphics, plotrix, ggplot2 and lattice and probably everyone can get sth. out of this course. I didn't know about the gantt diagram function and like it a lot. I also found the parameters section very useful. There are some points that kept me from giving 5 stars, however: - some of the plots were hard to understand like the nested bar plot or the fan.plot which were shown without further explanation - most of the plots I did not find presentation ready. The graphs may suffice for a quick look at the data but not more. - some examples were artificial like visualizing random numbers - in several examples the code was not readable due to size of the RStudio window - Martin could have said something about the development history of the various graphical packages and give some personal comment about their advantages and also a comment why the beginner should bother to learn so many packages where one of them might suffice. A personal recommendation would be fine. - I never liked the coloration in lattice plots. A way how to change that would have been great. Good luck furher on :-)

the software version used for the examples is old. Therefore some no longer work. The narrator pronounces some words differently than what I'm used to in the US making it difficult sometime to understand what he was talking about.

This is an excellent overview of the plotting systems available in R! I would recommend finishing some basic R courses before attempting this one, since it assumes you are familiar with the general language of R.

Without any exaggeration, I should say it is well organised with examples and exercises. When I started my R Basic, had a bit difficult but later on I watched again - More clear. So, my personal suggestion as a novice, if it is expected to take over the fear of R, it is better to review the every Module at least twice with focus. Thanks Martin with the steady and consistent process of Lecture presentation.
