Our take
Based on the ratings of 2,020 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in April 2026. No course pays to be reviewed.
This is a short, mostly conceptual course. It runs 93 minutes across 18 lectures and five sections, and the last section is just a certification page. Jack Raifer Baruch teaches it, with Oriana Oviedo Ojeda and Cultura 52 listed as co-instructors. The syllabus starts with why customers behave irrationally, then covers what emotional intelligence is, how to apply it to service, and how to start building a service culture. It is aimed at managers, HR people and business owners more than at anyone looking for call-handling drills.
Reviewers are mostly happy. Of roughly 2,020 ratings, 1,155 are five stars and 661 are four. People call it insightful and helpful. One reader who had already read Kahneman's book said the references were on point, and another enjoyed the self-control section. Reviews say little about the teaching style, but none complain about it. Criticism is mild. One three-star reviewer called it a fairly basic intro and hoped for more advanced material, such as steering a conversation and deciding how much detail to go into with customers.
At 93 minutes, it is an evening rather than a commitment, and it was refreshed in April 2026. It will not hand you phrases to use with an angry caller, and the course data lists no quizzes or exercises. Treat it as a primer that gets a manager or a small team thinking about emotions in service. For deeper skills training, you will need something longer. Recommended as a starting point, not a finish line.
Pros
- Short at 93 minutes, so a busy manager can finish it in one or two sittings
- Rated 4.6 from about 2,020 reviews, with most of them four or five stars
- One reviewer found the breakdown more informative than other programs, calling it a different angle
- Updated in April 2026, so it is not stale
Cons
- Fairly basic; one reviewer wanted more advanced ideas on steering customer conversations
- No quizzes or exercises listed, so practice is left to the learner
- Too brief to build real skill, and the last section is only a certification page
This was a very insightful course and I gained a lot of takeaways that I can use.
Beginner level fits. The only requirements are basic Udemy use and self-motivation, so no service background is needed.

Course Description
In a rapidly evolving world where customer expectations are higher than ever, delivering excellent customer service requires more than procedures and standardized scripts. It demands a profound understanding of human emotions, empathy, and interpersonal skills. This course offers a unique opportunity to explore the essential role of emotional intelligence (EI) in building meaningful customer relationships and fostering a strong organizational culture.
Throughout this learning experience, participants will examine how emotional intelligence shapes human interactions, influences decision-making, and enhances the customer experience. Rather than treating customer service as a purely rational process, this course emphasizes its inherently emotional and social nature. By developing emotional competencies, professionals can respond more effectively to challenges, cultivate loyalty, and contribute to a healthier work environment.
In this course, you will:
Understand the concept and dimensions of emotional intelligence: Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Motivation, Empathy, and Social Skills.
Explore the connection between emotional intelligence and customer service excellence.
Analyze the impact of emotions on human (and often irrational) behavior in customer interactions.
Learn strategies to manage emotions—your own and others’—in high-pressure service scenarios.
Acquire tools to foster an emotionally intelligent customer service culture within your organization.
Who should take this course?
This program is designed for professionals who seek to enhance their customer service skills while developing critical socioemotional abilities. It is ideal for:
Human resources specialists and students
Managers and general managers
Entrepreneurs and business owners
Organizational behavior professionals
Anyone interested in emotional intelligence and its application in customer service contexts
By engaging with this course, you will not only expand your theoretical knowledge but also practice actionable techniques that prepare you for the challenges of today’s customer-centric landscape. Emotional intelligence has been recognized as one of the most vital skills for the 21st century, enabling professionals to adapt to change, build resilience, and foster meaningful connections in both personal and professional settings.
We invite you to enroll in this course and embark on a journey of continuous learning and personal growth. Equip yourself with the emotional competencies that will empower you to deliver exceptional service and lead positive transformation within your organization.

Customer service professionals with high EI recognize their own emotions (frustration, stress) and prevent these from affecting interactions. Example: Staying calm when a customer is upset helps maintain professionalism.

I found the course interesting and helpful—definitely some things to think about and explore to better understand how your customers feel and how to give them a much more positive experience!

So far it's fairly basic intro to CS stuff. I'm hoping it gets into more advanced concepts like spinning narratives to get the answers you want them to give you and how to determine how much detail you want to get into with customers.

I appreciated the chance for self-reflection through the activities in the attached workbook. The suggestion to pause and complete as we went along was imperative to putting things into perspective. Thank you.

We have to be empathetic, it's easy to give a wow customer service when you put yourself in their shoes. Customer service is more interesting when we do not put money first.

It was a great match for me. It deepened my understanding of customer service a lot, and it was not just a bunch of blah blah formulas like other courses I have taken in the past.
