Our take

Based on the ratings of 14,916 students, a sample of their written reviews and the syllabus, as the course stood in April 2025. No course pays to be reviewed.

Elizabeth Heck's course is a short, practical introduction to herbal medicine. The syllabus runs about four hours across 75 lectures, and most of it is organized by preparation: tinctures, teas, infused oils and salves, then honeys and syrups. Each section pairs the method with the top herbs for that format, covering more than 20 plants in all. Shorter sections handle poultices, compresses, combining herbs into a formula and safety. It is aimed at people with no background, and the requirements say supplies are minimal.

Reviewers like the calm, clear teaching. Several mention a soothing voice and a pace that builds confidence rather than overwhelming. The written step-by-step PDFs get real praise, since people follow along and add the recipes to a kitchen recipe book. One reviewer who owns 31 acres of land called it a good introduction to all aspects of herbalism. The complaints are small. One four-star reviewer says not every video has text notes and the notes skip some of what is said on screen. Another wanted to print the herbalism terms list.

The ratings back this up. About 65 percent of the roughly 14,900 ratings are five stars, and fewer than 200 are one or two stars. It was last updated in April 2025, so it is reasonably current, and more than 72,000 students have enrolled. There is a certificate, but no quizzes or assignments. Next to the therapy, yoga and aromatherapy titles it sits with, this is the practical, make-it-yourself pick. Recommended for curious beginners, less so for anyone who wants clinical depth.

Best forBeginners who want to start making tinctures, teas and salves at home, not just read about plants.
Skip it ifYou want deep herbal science, quizzes or graded practice. It is a short, demo-led intro with no tests.

Pros

  • Every section pairs a preparation method with the herbs that suit it, so learning is hands-on
  • Calm, soothing delivery that reviewers say builds confidence without overwhelming beginners
  • Written step-by-step PDFs let students follow along and keep recipes for later
  • Covers over 20 herbs plus tinctures, teas, oils, salves, honeys, syrups and poultices

Cons

  • Not every video has text notes, and the notes skip some of what is said on screen
  • No quizzes or assignments, so there is no built-in way to check what you have learned
  • Only about four hours, so depth on each herb and on safety is limited
I like how Elizabeth presents the information and how she breaks it down. The information is factual and concise.
Anita Sykes, a student

Listed for all levels, but it suits true beginners best. The requirements say it is an intro and supplies are minimal.

Elizabeth, as with any experienced herbalist, teaches with ethics and integrity and absolutely will not be deceitful for marketing sake. Rather, her students are sincerely respected and honored. Therefore none of her courses claim to be accredited.

Very comprehensive and approachable. Many of the videos have text notes, however not all of them, and the notes do not cover everything that was in the video. That said, I would still HIGHLY recommend this course for those who are interested in beginning an herbalism journey.
