Course Description
This is the 1st episode of my How to Draw 101 series. This course is about Basic Drawing Skills and 3D Sketching.
If you are an absolute beginner at drawing, this session can be a perfect choice for your very first drawing course. Or if you are not a beginner, but you are having difficulties with your drawings, you are just probably missing some of the basic puzzles which can be easily fixed in these lessons.
This course requires no previous drawing knowledge or special drawing equipment.
We'll be drawing with simple traditional graphite pencil on ordinary paper.
The first section is kind of an introduction to drawing.
I will show you
the drawing tools you need
optional tools for the future
how to hold the pencil to get a better drawing experience
how to see the world with the eyes of the artist
In the second section we will go through the basic building blocks of drawing. We will develop your basic drawing skills making a lot of fundamental drawing exercises.
You will learn how to draw
straight lines
parallel lines
simple 2D shapes like triangles, rectangles, and squares
curves
circles, ovoid shapes, and ellipses
simple 3D objects like cubes and cylinders
We will also develop your hand coordination by connecting dots with straight and curved lines.
The goal of these lessons is to gain confidence at drawing these simple elements that we will use to build more complex objects.
I will give you an introduction to perspective drawing discussing the most frequently used 2-point and 3-point perspective. I will also explain an important drawing principle called foreshortening. With this knowledge you'll be able to draw subjects convincingly in the 3D space.
In the third section we'll put the drawing skills you've learned into practice. We will make all sorts of sketches on real life subjects based on reference photos. We will draw
a chess pawn built from simple 2D shapes
a chair by drawing straight lines using the rules of perspective
a fish using a bunch of S-curves
a profile portrait to practice proportions
a chess pawn with simple shading
a pair of glasses
a dancing human figure for an introduction to gesture drawing
and an astronaut just for fun
At the end of the course, you can check if your drawing skills have improved. You can compare your sketches made at the beginning and at the end of the course. If you make all the exercises with me, I'm sure you will make a difference.
I hope you will enjoy this course as much as I did during its creation.
See you in my Basic Drawing Skills & Sketching Exercises course!

When I was a kid I liked to draw, but unfortunately there was no good art teacher around me at that time, so my life took another direction - I graduated as an IT engineer. But in my 30’s my attention turned to art again. Science is a great thing to get to know the world, but art is another wonderful aspect of life. So I started to learn drawing on my own finding the best teachers and resources. Through creation you can make connection to something greater than us as I realized later in the learning process. I've decided to share these skills with people who'd like to learn. I'd like you to believe that you don't need to be born for creating great artworks. Anyone can learn to draw. Have some fun with me, and become a more creative person.

I was looking for a course that would take me back to the basics, and this one gave me exactly what I wanted. It starts with easy lines, curves, and simple shapes, and shows you how you can put them together and use them to help you draw objects from life (or photos). Due to my schedule, I wasn't able to spend as much time practicing as I'd hoped, but I noticed an improvement, especially in my drawings of the chess pawn, glasses, and chair.

If you searching for learning draw from the basic, this course is fit for you. I have amazed with the technics of basic drawing that improved my skill a lot. In the practical lectures (drawing from refferences) serves variety of drawing style which means you can find your potential drawing on spesific style. Lastly, thanks a bunch for this course!

Excellent. This guy has it down. I'm not talking only about good drawing skills, I'm also talking about knowing what the correct foundational skills are, to the detail of just drawing proper lines. The course structure moves up on a gradient, like building a house on a foundation. I can't emphasize enough how important it is that when you're trying to master something you can't just fly right into it and expect to do well. Plus, I've seen other drawing courses where the instructor will either move through a topic too quickly or leave gaps in the information that confuses the student. That isn't the case, here. Well done, Tomas. You're giving beginning artists what they need, and you're giving them that information at the proper speed and foundation. Good job, this is a course I definitely recommend.

I learned a lot in this class and really enjoyed the instructor's teaching style. This was a great fit for me as a beginner. Learning how to break down an image into shapes and finding the perspective lines was very helpful. I'm excited to continue using what I have learned and adding more skills with the perspective class by the same instructor. Thank you Tamas for this wonderful experience!

I had never really given any thought to drawing angle before, so that was a good point. Also, the clear explanation of the different types of lead, differences between “h” and “b” was clearly explained.

Was bored and took this class. As result I am fascinated on sketching now. Tamas really knows his audience and is excellent in what he is showing to beginners, something that I rarely have seen it. A solid 5/5!

This is my 4th drawing course on Udemy and by far the best! I have a BFA and have learned more basics with this instructor than in 3 college drawing classes. His instruction is at the perfect pace and he covers “actually” how to draw (not how to trace, transfer, and then shade like some others on here. I absolutely recommend this course if you really want to advance in your drawing skills.

A second course by Tamas - I enjoy his tone an detail. He assumes nothing and goes through descriptions of terms well. Will do more of his when they appear. For the objects in section 3 I initially tried the side view face and the dancing figure. I was quite please with my profile face, taking cues from the lessons about looking for lines and angles- it was a face BUT not the face in the picture. Drawing the face during the lesson it was clear I missed a few lines and the final face was a lot better - I can now see MORE of the face in the exercise - much better. The second exercise was the dancing figure - my first drawing , I feel had the angles right but the head was way too big , the torso too wide and short compared to the legs. Drawing in the lesson - MUCH better, body to legs ration not perfect but a lot better, head is a better size. If there is one thing I've learnt more from this course it's to look at the image and get angles and proportions sorted in rough draft AND make corrections before the next step. No real negatives that come to mind. Thanks Tamas!!!

Finally a teacher who doesn't assume I already can draw. Your course targets exactly the things I have issues with. Thank you for explaining the very basics and the concept, how to see things differently. The sketching exercises are just great! I gladly recommend this course to my friends.
