Course Description

In this course you'll learn how to build simple websites with Django and Python!

Django overwhelms a lot of people, and it doesn't have to! If you understand just a few basic concepts, you'll see that Django is a breeze to use!

In this course I'll be developing on a Windows machine, but you should be able to follow along if you're on a Mac or Linux.  I'll show you how to download and install Python and Django, and create a basic website.

We won't be doing ANY database work in this course.  I feel like databases confuse a lot of newbies, so instead of getting bogged down in all of that, we're just going to skip it and focus on building basic static websites.

You'll be able to build simple personal websites, or simple business websites when you're finished with this course.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS COURSE?

You don't need any tools or special skills to take this course. I'll show you how to download and install everything you'll need for free (Django, Python, and the Sublime Text Editor).

Other than that, you'll just need a computer with Internet Access!

DO I NEED TO KNOW PYTHON TO TAKE THIS COURSE?

No!  Django is built for Python. It's a web framework for Python. So it's a good idea to learn Python if you want to use Django. But you don't have to know Python to take this course. I'll walk you through everything you need to know.

Building websites with Django is a ton of fun, and learning has never been this easy.

I'll see you on the inside!

Great teaching style, straight to the point to get you moving - you can dive in further depth later. It's great to feel you've gotten somewhere quickly. I had a version question so thought I'd ask (without real expectation of a reply). Quickest reply I've had from any course. John is obviously very dedicated to providing a good and practical learning experience - and even better, is commited to ensuring his students get a great outcome. He's now got a long-term student in me! (Thanks John, loved it!)

This course was exactly the kind of intro I needed to using Django! Great job. Incoming students, be sure to follow John Elder's instructions exactly and things should be a breeze for you. At first I was reluctant to uninstall Python and do it the way he said, but afterwards things were much easier. Be humble, learn something. Also, I wish there was some info on embedding videos on Django websites too, but it can't be too different from static image uploads. Loved the course! Recommended for all!

It was ok course. I learnt few things but sometimes I was not sure why I am doing that specific thing. Moreover in one of your course you are saying that " This is just a bootstrap thing we don’t really care then, why you use it? If you are using Css and bootstrap then you should at least give us brief knowledge about it, you cannot Skip it.

Short, sweet and to the point. I was initially surprised at the duration of the course, but I choose to give a try and I really enjoyed it. I've been so used to courses that teach you everything about a topic and you can sometimes lose focus. But this course shows you enough for you to want to learn more on your own. I left the course wanting to know more but in a good way.

Very Good course for beginners. All it mainly provides : 1. Create app. 2. Mapping urls. 3. Loading staticfiles 4. Using templating. Could have been great with some intro about models and databases, but it was mentioned in the beginning of the course itself that databases are not taught in this course. I really encourage ppl to take this for fundamentals.

Swift pace covering the essential bases of using django for web site development. Really cut things down to manageable sections, easily followed and producing the stated results predictably. I think the course could benefit from adding a few more essential aspects to the site in addition to Navbar and images, like sections for prose or linking to a body of text or another site. Overall highly recommended.

I really liked this course. It's bite sized and you can get through it in just one sitting if you want to. This could be a great course for someone who has completed the polls app tutorial. It does a good job of showing how everything comes together. Some of the reviewers have commented that the trainer is too fast. I did not feel so but I have some past experience with Django. If you are a DJango beginner (have some idea) and on fence about this course, I would recommend it.

I have now completed the course, and my rating is not changing. I am leaving this at 5 stars. I have worked in I.T for a number of years and so I was able to skip the first 3-4 videos. The course does what it says and introduces you to Django. To get the most out of this course, I would recommend some Python Knowledge. This is good to get started in Django and now I can continue on my own projects. Thanks John!

This is very good for me! For a long time, I have been reluctant to take the step towards web applications as I have almost no html / css experience and limited SQL knowledge. So getting a first step into Django without the added confusion about DBs seems a good starting point for me. Also, explanations are so far kept detailed and clear but still concise enough not to lose patience.
