Course Description

A 2D game will be developed from scratch and you’ll quickly learn the basics of game development and more.

Perfect for Middle and High School students and just about anyone else who wants to get started developing games. No programming experience at all is required - just an interest in creating a game in Unity, the same software used to create Pokemon Go and so many other best selling games! You’ll painlessly learn the basics of scripting too, because the videos introduce scripting as necessary along the way in both Part I and Part II of the course.

You’ll be amazed at how fast you can learn Unity. And, you’ll quickly become confident with all the game-creating basics. The pace of each video is designed for ease of learning, and not designed to cram as much as possible into each lesson. As an option, for those of you who want to continue game development using more features of Unity, the Part II course is available to add to your journey…

And more good news: the Unity basics, features, tools, and principles you learn in this this course apply to all Unity games and apps you may develop! So no time is wasted learning 2D first - it's super fun, easy, and fast coming up to speed in Unity and then gaining the confidence to design and attack your next game. And that next game can be an AR, VR, 3D, or whatever you want because you'll have the knowledge to learn these new features quickly.  Btw, I'm thinking about creating a 3D AR version of this game that can be played on your Android or Apple phone but also on the exciting META smartglasses (and possibly others). If you think you would be interested in such a course, please send me a message that you would be interested :) Thanks.

After finishing the course, I can say I am so glad I took it. I like that the course was only 90 minutes (other courses are many hours long and are a daunting task for a beginner such as myself). The voiceover is a bit slow, but it gives me time to play the course in the background while I work ahead. Fantastic start to my learning, I plan on following Part II of this course soon!

excellent course for beginners of unity. easy, explaning everything you need and so clear. you must see this course if you planning go into the unity world! (if you dont know anything about scripting-c#, you have to learn basic c# and basic programming logic. otherwise you cant get the scripting part)

The author's explanations are clear, and while there are differences between the version of Unity that he was using when recording these videos and the version that I am using (Debug.Log not working properly as Debug is not an official behaviour/function etc), these differences are minor in retrospect.

Hi Ken, You are an awesome instructor and I loved the way how you explained everything in details. I have not explored other tutorial if you have created any but would love to explore more if its created by you. I enjoyed your this session and hope to have more and more session like this in future. Cheers!!

Gave me a basic foundation and introduction to coding. Seems coding oriented which although not bad a more detailed look at the interface would have been nice but I would think that could just confuse some people. I like a good overview though so I can recall the facts when they are mentioned throughout a course like this. even if they are described later at those points. Overall the course was really good from a beginners perspective and essential before moving onto more advanced things even negating my first statement above. It did cover al the basic starting points. I highly recommend it.

The video tutorial is very good, to get started with unity. But doesn't explains why are some steps done. Like what happens at code level when I initialize GameObject variable by dragging and dropping the game object in unity. I didn't get why am I doing this and when I should do this. But overall THe tutorial helped me to get familiar with unity at scratch level.

Clear, easy to follow. Intelligent decisions re what to explain and when. Good pace for an ultra-beginner tutorial, which is what this is. One comment: on a laptop I don't have a mouse scroll wheel, so I still haven't figured out how to zoom the scene window in and out. Would be nice to know the corresponding command.

It's a very good beginner course - too bad that you have to pay for part II. I guess I got used to Udemy having either fully free or fully paid courses. Felt a bit disappointed afterwards. Still, a good place to start learning scripts - although maybe some C# concepts weren't explained as clearly as they should have been...

By Ian Murray on 12/5/2016

The tutorial did not require any prior knowledge of either unity or scripting in C#, but I feel that it would really benefit from slightly more information about the scripting. Whilst I was able to follow the ideas, I found the scripting formatting confusing. A very good example to demonstrate developing game actions, but I am now also trying to get to grips with the basics of C# scripting.
