Learn Java From Scratch (Udemy.com)

A useful basic introduction. Worth 12.99 but don't pay more. A good start, some confusing elements in the middle but overall a worthwhile course, particularly if you want to get to know NetBeans.
The trainer is pleasant & knowledgeable. Sometimes he's moving very quickly so be prepared to pause. I also note that none of the student questions have been answered so looks like this is an orphan course - just standing alone with no support.
However, if you want a quick (8hrs) review of all things Java - a solid enough course for that.

Let me preface this review by saying that this is a really great tutorial, and the information provided here is easily worth a paid tutorial.
I came into this tutorial wanting to get my feet wet with a brand new high-level language. The instructor goes through each lesson explaining what each feature of the language is and how it interacts with other features all while providing practical examples. Each lesson leads into the next and slowly introduces new aspects of Java that build on each other to cohere into a complete understanding of each topic. The instructor does not make assumptions about what you already know, so you rarely feel like you have missed something. There are fantastic simplified explanations for more intermediate to advanced tasks such as multi-threading, GUI applications and networking that even the newest newbie can follow along with.
On the flip side, there were a few quirks that nagged me throughout the experience. The declaration keywords (public, private, static, abstract, final, and protected) are used but not once does the instructor *ever* tell you what they mean or why and when they should be used. I felt this to be in bad form, especially for a beginner course but Google was there to answer my questions. Also, as the tutorial gets closer to the end of the course the instructor frequently has you type out huge blocks of unexplained code, only to go back at the end of the video and quickly try to explain it all. This makes the course feel very rushed and the lessons don't 'stick' nearly as well toward the end. These few points are the reason I gave the course a 4-star rating.
For future courses, it would behoove of you to edit out your coughing, loud unrelated Windows error dings, and large silence gaps that appear frequently throughout the lessons.

- Thorough explanation of Java syntax and structure
- Some advanced topic explained with great clarity
- Practical examples that get you writing code and learning immediately
Cons:
- Did not explain declaration keywords *at all* in the entire course
- Feels rushed at the end with large blocks of code not explained as created
- Some personal nitpicks
Bottom Line: A superb tutorial that will get you in and get you coding and understanding the basics in no time. An excellent springboard for further education in Java.

This is a great course for beginner and intermediate alike. Very well explained and the examples are very close to reality.

this course was just good for review all the simple stuff.
he won't go over every details and many examples. but to understand the main focus/point of those topics, which he goes over, then its a good, easy and quick practices for beginners. I will recommend if you just wanna review what you have learned in the beginner java class.
